Which brand of tinned tomatoes do you use?

I always used to buy Napolina for making pizza and pasta sauces and beef ragus and was always very happy with them. There seem to be more brands about now. Today I've bought a few tins of Mutti peeled Plum and chopped tomatoes with garlic. I don't remember using them before. I'll be making the Plum tomatoes into an uncooked pizza sauce, hopefully with minimal extra ingredients.

I think that in some dishes it does make a huge difference. I llike Cirio. I did try Mutti but was unimpressed.

I used to buy the cheapest as didn't think it made a difference. Tried Mutti and never going back.

It is quite a co-incidence isn't it. On the day that Mutti are reported as using Chinese tomatoes from forced labor camps in their "Italian" chopped tomatoes, a poster pops up enthralling the virtues of Mutti tomatoes.

So much of a co-incidence it is almost hard to believe.

Doesn't the article say the opposite? That Mutti don't have Chinese tomatoes? It says their products did contain Italian tomatoes. That's the only mention of Mutti in that article.

I'm not sure it is just the method of picking. It is also there is no Italian sun involved. Chinese tomatoes are being passed off as Italian Tomatoes.

I don't think Mutti have been found to use Chinese tomatoes - the article says the opposite, that theirs was found to contain Italian tomatoes, along with quite a few others. The problematic ones seem to be those made by Petti, who supply to various supermarkets, and some other brands in German supermarkets.

I want to be a tomato sauce magnate.

Royal sun tomatoes as sold in Amazon. Price can change a bit but it's usually around 24 cans for £12. Really tomatoe-y tomatoes and not watery unlike supermarket valve tomatoes. Only downside is having to store 24 cans at a time.

I would love to buy the likes of Mutti but my food budget just doesn't stretch that far.

That may be right about Mutti. It is a bit vague on the other brands. I'm so used to looking at the honey industry where they don't even bother trying to put a country of origin and just write produce of EU and non-EU countries which should be read as we don't really know. Fraud is a massive issue in the honey industry so I wouldn't be surprised if it is the sane in others.

I buy Napolina or Cirio & stock up when it's on offer.

I tried mutti and didn't love them. Couldn't put my finger on why. Back to napolina

Usually Cirio. I tried Mutti due to the recommendations on here and honestly wasn't sure I could tell the difference, especially considering the premium price.

I used to think that all whole and chopped tomatoes weee created equal. And the. I bought Cirio and Mutti chopped tomatoes when they were on offer one week. The difference over Waitrose own brand was enormous, so now I buy one or the other. I think they’re pretty equal.

I read something once (I think it was by Mary Berry but I may be wrong) that said that even the very cheapest whole tinned tomatoes weee superior to chopped ones.

I've also heard from a few sources that the whole tomatoes are better quality than the chopped variety. I don't know why this is but the uncooked pizza sauce recipe I'm following says to use whole so that's what I'm doing.

By the way, I'm not a spokesman for Mutti. If I was my name would be Luigi or Paolo or something similar. But it ain't!

Mutti here as well. I did a sourdough course and the teacher recommended them for pizza as they are far better than other brands. She’s Italian .

Mutti here too, the only pizza sauce my kids will eat!

I regret reading this thread, I’ve read the word Mutti so much it’s not even registering as a word anymore, my brain is fried and I just want everyone to stop saying Mutti. In spite of all that, definitely Mutti, the best I’ve ever had, never going back to another brand!

Only Mutti now. I used to think tinned tomatoes were tinned tomatoes but no. A huge difference in quality and taste.
