I've started a new one. Please join us and share the boring and mundane things happening in your world. It will be calming for all.

Here is a link to the prior thread:

Welcome to all regulars, lurkers, and new contributors! Everyone is welcome to join.

Note there is one minor change to the thread title. "tell me your dull news" has been changed to "tell us...". I thought it was more in keeping with the spirit of the thread.

Havoc, you'd love the Instant Pot. Google "instant pot recipes" and you'll see what I mean.

Miss, it was everywhere on social media at the height of the pandemic. Interesting origin, rise, crash and
restructure history:

I still look at them...

MissC that was quick work, and I hope they'll install everything just as quickly. Your couches look lovely.

I love my Instant Pot, especially for brown rice, soup, and chili, and mango rice has been a huge hit. We also discovered we could make the fudgiest brownies ever in it using a pyrex dish. The saute feature is the main advantage it has over the crock pot/ slow cooker imo. It's so handy to be able to brown meats or soften onions and veg and then change function to stew or soup without needing to use (and then wash) a second pot. I made tonight's lentil soup in it.

We had some snow here followed by freezing rain, so there's a crunchy coating over everything, and it's very cold, well below freezing. I had to superglue my snow scraper back together again after tackling the ice on my car.

Lemonsandlemonade · 08/01/2025 06:43

Hi Havoc

sorry I scarpered for a while. Unfortunately am dealing with my marriage breakdown my husband's unfaithfulness. It's been a very trying time but inwards and upwards.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/01/2025 07:08

@Lemonsandlemonade oh, god, I'm so sorry.

MissConductUS · 08/01/2025 08:53

Lemons, that's awful for you. I'm so sorry. Sending you love and support.

Oh Lemons, I'm so sorry he has done that to you!

I hope you have a lot of support for this.

DandyDandylion · 08/01/2025 16:04

Sorry to hear that Lemons don’t feel you have to disappear, dull news isn’t always joyous.
I spent some time today digging out my black clothes as we have a family funeral to go to. We knew it was coming as he was diagnosed with terminal cancer last summer and only given palliative care.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/01/2025 16:07

Sorry to hear that, Dandy. 💐

MissConductUS · 08/01/2025 17:29

I'm sorry to hear that also, Dandy. I get the impression that the NHS doesn't do much proactive screening for cancer. Everyone on MN seems to find out about it in a late stage.

They have finished pouring the floor-leveling stuff. We'll be able to walk on it in 2-3 hours, and they'll be back tomorrow to start installing the cabinets on the walls that aren't open. The open walls require inspection by the town for the electrical work and plumbing before they can be closed up. They also have to replace the R11 insulation in the walls with R15, as that's the current building code standard.

I slept badly last night. I went to bed around 10pm because I had only slept a couple of hours the night before. I woke up 45 minutes later and couldn't get back to sleep until after 5am.

The blood test was fine. I had to defrost the car so I've now put the sun protection silver clothy thingy over the windscreen to see if that will stop the frost forming overnight. It's very dry here but getting to -2C. The blood test results came back and I am still not absorbing oestrogen, even though it's bioidentical and I'm taking it orally. Hopefully the menopause specialist will have an answer when I see her on Saturday.

BTW, I love self-levelling concrete. It's like magic!

mathanxiety · 08/01/2025 18:52

So sorry to hear that, @Lemonsandlemonade
I hope you have supportive people around you.

Dandy my condolences. I hope he was comfortable as the end approached.

Lemonsandlemonade · 08/01/2025 19:06

Thanks all it's been awful and yeah have RL support just have lost my best friend through his actions.

Now it's about sorting a stable arrangement for ds.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/01/2025 19:25

Nothing like getting stabbed in the back after a gut-punch, Lemons. 💐

ShoesOnFirstThenCar · 08/01/2025 19:52

I’m so sorry to hear that @Lemonsandlemonade , hope you’re doing as well as you can. Hope you can keep things as stable as you can for your DS, big cwtches to both of you.

IWanderedLonely · 08/01/2025 20:36

Lemons sorry to hear your sad news Flowers
Dandy sorry for your loss, hope the funeral goes well.

Schools have been closed so far this week due to snow and ice. Think we'll be back to normal tomorrow though. I pick my grandson up from nursery after work then have a mile walk to school with the pushchair, could be interesting Hmm

WearyAuldWumman · 08/01/2025 23:07

I'm so sorry @Lemonsandlemonade . My condolences @DandyDandylion

Mumtobabyhavoc · 09/01/2025 05:08

Did a 90-min walk after dinner with dc. Bundled them up in snow suits since it's 3c. It's beautifully clear and can see a gorgeous moon and stars tonight here. No snow to report, though.

Deathraystare · 09/01/2025 06:53

Well that is shit isn't it @Lemonsandlemonade . Hopefully things will be sorted eventually. It is times like this that you find out who your real friends are.

@dandy Sorry to hear your news.

@MissConductUS You having a new floor put down reminded me when we had some stuff put on the floor. I am not sure why. But anyway we could not walk on it whilst it was drying obvs! However, no one told the cat or the cat assumed it did not mean she had to 'walk the plank' like we did. Mum and I were smiling at the number of paw prints even to the edge of the floor!

Deathraystare · 09/01/2025 06:55

@Lemonsandlemonade

If you look on some posts elsewhere you may find some good advice as obvs many other women are going through what you are going through.

HildaTablet · 09/01/2025 10:07

I’m so sorry to hear your update @Lemonsandlemonade

IWanderedLonely · 09/01/2025 20:26

Well the schools were closed again today & it snowed again this morning. So instead of looking after grandchildren I came home after work and had a nap.
Then I had a blissful reiki session this evening. Trying this year to look after myself better and be a tiny bit selfish ( not easy when you've spent all your life believing this is wrong!)

DandyDandylion · 09/01/2025 21:24

I am thoroughly done with snow and ice. Hopefully tomorrow will be the last school run for a while I have to drive on ungritted icy roads. Also not been able to get out for walks so feeling a bit caged and all the dc clubs have been cancelled. The house is nice and clean though and I even started organising a cupboard I have been meaning to get to. Definitely feeling a bit dull.

DucklingSwimmingInstructress · 10/01/2025 09:06

<sneaks back in> very sorry to hear that @LemonsandLemonade. Sending you strength.

@MissConductUS as someone said, that's a lovely characterful room shape. Rooms like that add something to the atmosphere! (as well as adding money to refurbishment bills, I suppose). You won't be short of storage space now, will you? :D
We need a new kitchen but neither of us is very happy with the house so I'm not sure we want to invest in it, especially given the huge amount of upheaval that it involves.

I have a new ambition - to do a swimmer's mile, 1500m, in icy water. I'm not far away - can do 1200m in 7 degrees water with something still in reserve. But the loss of three degrees or so to be technically 'icy' is a bit of a step. We're having a cold-ish snap so I'm watching to see if the lake water temperature will drop to below 5 ... Maybe tomorrow.

MissConductUS · 10/01/2025 14:33

Deathray, we kept the cats confined until the self leveling cement dried. A few paw prints wouldn't have mattered, because the vinyl flooring will go on top of it, but we didn't want to deal with cement on their paws.

It's lovely to see you again, Duckling. It is a nice kitchen space, and we have room in there for a small table you can eat at. We also have a computer on the table for family use.

We certainly won't lack for storage space, as we are getting more cabinets than we had before, and while packing up the kitchen, we threw out about 15 large bin bags of various things accumulated over the years but not needed or in use.

If you own your house, you might consider doing the kitchen remodel if you think you'll be there for a few years. An updated kitchen should bring you a higher price when you sell. In the US, it's one of the few home renovations that almost always pays for itself when the house is sold.

The electricians have been working for the last few days, so there aren't many visible changes. To meet the current building code, each appliance has to have its own circuit, and all of the outlets have to be GFI.
