Note there is one minor change to the thread title. "tell me your dull news" has been changed to "tell us...". I thought it was more in keeping with the spirit of the thread.

Hope everyone has a lovely Christmas.

Just collected butchers things, got final things from supermarket, got DH a new coffee machine and Currys also called and are refunding. They finally reviewed CCTV, only took a month, and discovered 1 customer had been in twice to get the same coffee machine, the one I paid for first and their one later that day.

Just off swimming closes early tonight.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 24/12/2024 16:44

How bizarre @Penguinsn Glad it's sorted! (and on Christmas Eve... hmmm, dare I say it?) 😉😇

Shoes, the two grocery shops I did last night were calm as well. Thankfully. ☺️

Myrtle, another one for some lovely little things happening with prezzie arriving early and dsd reaching out to you that way. 💕

Hilda, hope you got your book and what you needed at the shops. I will google David Lebovitz. Yes, all cookies have a place. I like that! 😂😛

Dandy, I'm very intrigued by your dessert. Poc if poss? Recipe? I love lemon. 😛

It's just past 8:30am. Still in bed. Have got a baby on me and little Havoc snuggled up. There's no need to rush to get up - unless I'm delusional (always possible!)
I've got pannettone, croissants, nutulla and fruit for brekkie. Might also do some scrambles eggs. The only thing I feel I need more of is strawberries ... but it really would be best to go out now. I just don't want to move just yet. I'm savouring these sleeping cuddles with dc ...💕💕💕

Mumtobabyhavoc · 24/12/2024 16:48

(Hilda, found the chef and pinned. I know I'm gonna love his site! Thanks!)

MyrtleStrumpet · 24/12/2024 18:06

Fell asleep in front of White Christmas. Rosemary Clooney was a brilliant singer and Vera-Elllen was a superb dancer - some amazing choreography. Obviously Danny Kaye and Bing Crosby were awesome too.

@Penguinsn how bizarre! Did they realise it wasn't theirs then go back to get theirs so they could sell one?
Glad it's been sorted.

@Mumtobabyhavoc how lovely to have the snuggles with the children. Sometimes people don't mention all the scrummy parts of being a parent.

Thank you for your words about DSD. I always assumed DH and I would eventually be just ourselves, but this is our ninth Christmas and this is our life. These occasional moments outweigh the rest.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 24/12/2024 18:33

Myrtle, likewise we don't often hear step parents talking about lovely moments with their step children (at least on MN).

Am on my 2nd very thick slice of pannettone and 2nd latte now.

IWanderedLonely · 24/12/2024 18:52

Just sat down to watch It's a Wonderful Life. Everything is prepped for tomorrow, (I think!)
I wish everyone the best Christmas as circumstances allow.
And to anyone with little ones, pause and save as much as you can to memory, it's such a special time and goes far too fast.Xmas Smile

Penguinsn · 24/12/2024 23:54

Yes it is strange with Currys that someone would and could do that knowing Currys have all their details and they are on CCTV never mind the complete lack of morals. And its an expensive item and they had paid for theirs so not like they were desperate for money. Though sounds like they will get away with it. I did update police though as have a crime reference number but police said before they don't get involved though its all solved for them so never know.

Just went swimming, sauna, steam room and jacuzzi and chatted to a couple of people there not seen in a while. Then cleaned downstairs so all clean for tomorrow. DH has gone to midnight mass.

Hope everyone has as good a Christmas as they can and 2025 is kind to us all.

MissConductUS · 25/12/2024 00:19

Do Brits say Merry Christmas or Happy Christmas? Either way, I guess. Merry Christmas to one and all, regulars, lurkers, and those who have newly discovered the thread!

Penguinsn, that is very odd. But how did he collect the one you paid for? Surely, they would have matched a name to the order. It sounds like some type of organized retail scam. I hope they apologized to you for all of the bother.

Shoes, I didn't realize you were Welsh. Nadolig Llawen to you as well!

DH, DS, and I went to the 4:00 family service at church, then went out for our traditional Christmas Eve dinner of fried calamari and pizza. DS and I are making the last of the cookies to bring tomorrow. DH made potatoes au gratin with Gruyere cheese and heavy cream for Christmas dinner. We're going to leave tomorrow by 11:00, and it's about a 45-minute drive to my brother's house. My SiL is making a prime rib of beef and assorted vegetables.

Oh, we had two more inches of snow last night, so DH was out shoveling again this morning. It's really a white Christmas here, the first one in ages.

Happy Christmas to all of you.

@MyrtleStrumpet i love your craft work. That tree is stunning!

@Mumtobabyhavoc Christmas with little ones is so special. We’re going to have a video call with ours tomorrow, because they are in Lisbon. We’ve played a game online tonight with them, which is great. We’ll have another few games over the holidays.

We had our Tesco order with a few substitutions, but they all seemed to be larger quantities for the same price, which makes a lovely change.

All food ready and prepped. My DD is taking charge of the meals tomorrow, which is great. We are having our turkey on Boxing Day for a change.

I’m waiting for my electric hot water bottle to heat up and have The Hairy Bikers You’ll Never Ride Alone, on TV, which is very poignant, as well as so funny in parts.

The hot water bottle has now come to temp so I shall wend my weary way to bed. Hope you all have a lovely Christmas and thank you to you all for sharing your very different stories and allowing me to witter along. I’ll raise a glass tomorrow, Cheers 🧑‍🎄🎄🎅🏻🥂

HildaTablet · 25/12/2024 07:49

Happy Christmas, one and all!

DandyDandylion · 25/12/2024 07:59

I will repeat my merry Christmas to you all since everyone in my house is still asleep! When is it children stop being so excited they get you up at 5am. Saying that number 1 dandycat has just got on my knee to make typing difficult.
We did Christmas Eve roast beef for 11 so I have just put dishwasher load number 3 on. Looking forward to a walk once everyone has woken up and opened their gifts.

MyrtleStrumpet · 25/12/2024 09:53

Merry Christmas!

DH is making bacon and eggs with bucks fizz (mimosas) for breakfast. I have put on a fancy floaty dress for the day and presents will be opened after breakfast.

DH will then roast some venison. All the veg was done yesterday. We eat around 3pm with champagne and red wine. Then Inside Out 2 and snoozing until about 6pm when I will bring out the trifle. Then more snoozing and TV.

The perfect Christmas x

Wishing you all well x

Penguinsn · 25/12/2024 12:31

Merry Christmas everyone. You can say either here MissC Maybe Merry is slightly more common if writing in a card but both are similar. Currys don't know exactly how it happened and don't know if they were male or female, it was 10am on a Tuesday.

Just a quiet day here. DH will get to go to his family and friends for 5 days between Christmas and New Year and DD and I will stay here to keep DS company.

DH started the day at midnight mass. We now have the Christmas meal in the oven, do love the Christmas meal and am drinking Shloer though now seems to have sweetners in. Hmmpf.

Floof has been like a toddler at Christmas. Up early for his tuna, then wanting Jingle Bells, and wanting games all the time and seems to be having a great Christmas. He has a stocking with Mr Floof on full of tuna tins and is very excited about the Christmas meal.

DS was up until 1am then up at about 8am and has taken his presents with him. DD is still asleep.🙄We will just have the traditional roast turkey from the butchers with pigs in blankets and cranberry sauce and veg and potatoes. Then Christmas pudding with double cream.

Was watching a Netflix film This Time Next Year, had just finished Married to a Psychopath.

Deathraystare · 25/12/2024 15:36

It's Christmas!!!!!!!

I was sitting on my bed this morning eating choccies for brekkie and listening to carols on my CDs. Now I am at work, it is hot because the people in the next room have the heating on. I have a fan on but have decided to defrost the fridge so that means putting on an oil heater near the fridge. Someone will find a large deposit of lard which will be me in the morning! It is just around the ice box and proving very stubborn!

Hope yo all had/are having a lovely time.

MissConductUS · 25/12/2024 15:45

Penguinsn, that's lovely that Mr Floof has his own stocking. Our cats get gifts, but lack a stocking.

Deathray, sorry you have to work on Christmas day, but defrosting the freezer sounds like a worthy project.

Dandy, how many people did you have for Christmas Eve dinner that you've had to do three loads in the dishwasher?

We've just finished opening presents. We all got lots of nice things. DS got a new iPhone 16 Pro, and a Garmin dashcam, and some new work clothes. I got not one but two new kettles, one electric and one that goes on the stove hob.

We're leaving shortly for dinner at my brother's house.

I hope everyone is having a lovely Christmas Day!

Deathraystare · 25/12/2024 18:54

@MissConductUS
Haha! You don't know the half of it. I have just removed two huge ice slabs and it is only a tiny under deck fridge - not deck but you know what i mean. I am absolutely sweating because of having the heater on to defrost it. However, it looks much better now!

I really don't mind working Christmas, well as a single person what else would I do|???!! Plus I am paid a bit extra so all good!

@Penguinsn

Glad Floof is still demanding Jingle Bells but how will you explain when it is o longer Christmas??!!

@Umanresources

Sad that I missed the Hairy Bikers.

Penguinsn · 25/12/2024 19:20

Glad they pay you extra Death It can be Christmas all year for Floof if he wants it Death 🎄😆 He's currently worn himself out with all his gaming and cuddles and gone to sleep on my pink chair which is covered in a fleece sheet and fleece duvet with the heater on pointed at him.

Have a lovely Christmas dinner MissC

DD finally woke and opened her presents and had Christmas dinner with us. DS ate 3 bowls of cereal then Christmas dinner at lunch time and had one of his new posh hot chocolates. DH and I had Christmas dinner and Christmas pudding and cream. Floof has been doing his best to keep up with the eating. He was also trying to say Merry Christmas back to me when I say it to him.

DH is setting up his new coffee machine not from Currys though as it's been last minute we haven't got coffee beans but shops open tomorrow and will be all set up ready to go.

DandyDandylion · 25/12/2024 21:43

I bet your colleagues are pleased you are prepared to work the Christmas shift Death and I’m sure they will be grateful to find a a sparkly fridge on their return.
We cooked for 11 on Christmas Eve MissC and I have to admit I put everything in nowadays including roasting pans. I got my first dishwasher 15 years ago and as time has gone on I have replaced everything that wasn’t dishwasher proof. I hand washed a few things that were needed before the meal as we actually only just have enough plates, cutlery etc for that many.
The stove kettle is something I only use if I’m staying in our caravan. I know it’s quite common in other countries but in the uk people rarely boil water on the stove for drinks.

DucklingSwimmingInstructress · 25/12/2024 22:04

Just to say that I hope everyone had a lovely Christmas =)

mathanxiety · 25/12/2024 22:33

Merry Christmas to all. We're still in the thick of it - potatoes are roasting, beef roast about to go in, veggies to peel and prep, sweet potatoes ditto. I made our desserts yesterday - pumpkin pie, pecan pie, and tiramisu.

I had a bit of a disaster with the coffee for the tiramisu around 10 last night, but nothing half a roll of paper towels couldn't fix. A kitchen could smell of worse things than coffee. I like to turn on music by The Tornadoes when I'm doing the late night Christmas prep on Christmas Eve. Telstar is a great tune to mop coffee up to and roll out cinnamon rolls.

Dcat received a catnip lump of coal from Santa and is now sleeping in her armchair with her paws in the air and tail akimbo. DD2 is snoozing on the couch and half watching football. DD3 has gone for a walk. DD4 is napping in her bed as Dcat kept bothering her all night.

Penguinsn · 26/12/2024 09:54

Your Christmas day sounds lovely Math

DS had a turkey sandwich in the evening, after his Christmas dinner and 3 bowls of cereal, hot chocolate and likely he would have eaten the chocolate biscuits I got him. Still stays thin as a rake.

Floof seemed to love the day, lots of food, lots of boxes and games, lots of attention and jingle bells. He also came on the bed this morning right up close to me and purred when I cuddled him then when I stopped to move he reached a big soft paw out and patted my hand for more cuddles. He has eaten his tuna like a baby kitten and got it everywhere.

Just having first cup of tea. Boxing Day here which is a bank holiday.

MissConductUS · 26/12/2024 10:34

Dandy, 11 is a good-sized group to cook for. DH is thrilled to have a working dishwasher again and shares your enthusiasm.

Math: I love the smell of coffee and homemade cinnamon rolls. On Christmas Eve, I was busy making cookies.

Penguinsn, it's remarkable how much young people can eat without gaining weight. My SiL is also very thin and has a rather astonishing appetite.

We had a lovely time at my brother's house yesterday. My SiL made a roast beef tenderloin for the main course, and DH's potatoes au gratin were a big hit. We had two unexpected British options for dessert. My SiL found a British food shop in the area selling at a farmer's market and bought a Victoria sponge cake and a sticky toffee pudding. The Victoria sponge cake was delicious. I was less impressed by the sticky toffee pudding. The farmer's market is only 20 minutes or so from where we live, so I may pop up there on Saturday and try some of the other British foods they offer.

I used one of my new kettles to make coffee this morning.

Just catching up skimming the thread... it's after 2am here, so I really should be asleep, but i think I'm overtired now.
Death, did the work fridge defrost? I hope you had a bit of a relaxing evening once you got home. Choccies for breakfast on Christmas is fitting. Good for you. ☺️
Penguinsa, oh, to have the metabolism of a teen boy.
Floof sounds very cute pawing like that. Very communicative and clever.
Math, yikes re the coffee mishap. 😮
Dandy, I use an electric kettle, but I've always liked the whistling stove top ones. For or ages I just boiled water in a pot on the stove then poured it into my tea pot, I don't like that my kettle shuts off nice boiling is reached
It means to sterilize water I have to boil water on the stove.
Miss, we day Merry Christmas us here, too. I hope dinner at your brother's went well and that driving conditions were good.
Myrtle, your day sounds lovely.
Iwandered, good advice.

Not much sleep last night, or so far tonight. Rained all day and is still raining. Didn't go out at all today as day just went so fast with tidying up after presents, eating, cooking and eating again. Did a puzzle and watched tv on dc went to sleep. Apparently the wind and rain caused ferry service to Victoria to be suspended and also caused power outages. I'm glad we were ok.
Dinner was roast duck (orange, cloves, ginger, onion, garlic snd Chinese 5 spice, star anise); dressing (baguette, cranberries, pecans, apple, pan juices from duck), roasted potatoes and Brussels sprouts (garlic) and gravy made from pan juices from the duck. I was very happy with the new dessert tradition of ice cream sundaes (choc and vanilla froyo, bits of Nanaimo bar, preserve Italian strawberries, whipped cream (the fun kind in the can!) 🤗 fancy blue augar from my baking cupboard and topped with a amareno cherry. 😛

Come and tell us your dull and unexciting news 32: Calmly through the day
Penguinsn · 26/12/2024 10:55

That sounds like a wonderful day MissC DS loves Victoria sponge cake and sticky toffee pudding. Both can be lovely or a bit dry, we tend to have sticky toffee pudding either with ice cream or custard. I love all the similar puddings like jam Roly poly, sponge pudding etc to have with custard and crumble and custard.

DH just off to check on his new classic car from the 1930s. And hopefully we will go to see the baby seals in Norfolk today. Going to have a turkey and coleslaw sandwich before we go off.

Sounds lovely food Havoc

Deathraystare · 26/12/2024 15:53

@Mumtobabyhavoc

Yes the fridge finally gave up the titanic blocks of ice (and it is only a under the table jobbie. All around the ice box it was thick with ice! Yeah I relaxed with DVDs - home alone and Love Actually! This morning I started Blackadder so I have the theme on my mind!

B@MissConductUS

Dead jealous of your Victoria sponge. This is the Queen of cakes! However as I have already eaten my considerable weight in chocolate I can only dream of cake!!!
