I've started a new one. Please join us and share the boring and mundane things happening in your world. It will be calming for all.

Here is a link to the prior thread:

Welcome to all regulars, lurkers, and new contributors! Everyone is welcome to join.

Note there is one minor change to the thread title. "tell me your dull news" has been changed to "tell us...". I thought it was more in keeping with the spirit of the thread.

I have only taken 2 AB's so far and already I can feel a difference in my toe !

The skin doesn't feel as tight and taunt ..

Got good hope for these AB's !! 🤞

We will soon have you up and dancing away! See you on strictly!!!

Deathraystare · 18/12/2024 07:32

@Mumtobabyhavoc
Lovely pics!
I see you have been out and about again!!

I have always had to pay for a meal. It is ok. This was in the canteen where we always pay anyway (NHS).

Mumtobabyhavoc · 18/12/2024 07:57

Oh! And one of the light signs during the Taylor Swift concert weekend has been changed out:

Death, does your employer actually put a dinner on for you and you just have to pay for it, or does the canteen have a Christmas dinner, that's available to anyone, and you and co-workers just went together?

Penguinsn · 18/12/2024 08:22

Thanks Havoc DS has currently just made himself hot dogs at 8am! And when I did gardening with DH at the weekend I noticed my rake was now upside down but standing up and DSs shoes were muddy. Not sure what he's doing with a rake. Pretty similar to before, did take the new shoes I bought him. And the flannel but not the grey fleece, probably as no hood. I am fine but tired from working full time and yesterday had a 2 hour meeting and Floof got cross, have never seen Floof cross like that but he was mad about the length of the meeting. You know when cats start jumping everywhere and he has hitting my leg with his fluffy paw. Then afterwards he was clingy all day on my bed and on my chair but very happy again once meeting over.

Will try and catch up once I get to the weekend.

bizzey · 18/12/2024 08:37

@Deathraystare ...I will just be happy to walk without the pain !

DucklingSwimmingInstructress · 18/12/2024 10:52

@mathanxiety Dcat is a fiend for Christmas tree water what is Christmas tree water?

English grandad is coming tomorrow and it's going to be a busy day - have a sports massage in the morning (her fingers are as strong as the Terminator's, but she's a good friend now); pick up Grandad, pick up youngest son from school, back, make food for the youngest's school Christmas evening dinner, pick up car from the yearly checkup, then a long medical appointment. Also have the kids that night.

New wood for the stove is coming friday though =) and after that it's school holidays.

Deathraystare · 18/12/2024 11:36

@Mumtobabyhavoc
It is for staff and visitors as well. I sat alone because I always do. None of the other staff I know go to the canteen. I t is over three days. One of the porters already had the meal. I think it is on again tomorrow.

@Penguinsn
Nobody wants a cross Floof!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 18/12/2024 16:07

Has anyone noticed the thanks button is now a react button?

Bizzey, glad the medication seems to be helping!
Ducky, my guess is the water in the tree stand for the real tree. I'm also guessing you've never had a real tree. 😢
How nice you'll have your grandad to visit. You sound busy, but all sounds nice. ☺️
Death, shame your employer doesn't provide something for people to get together, but at least a holiday meal is available. ☺️

Didn't get to sleep until quite late...Havoc was awake until 12:30am and baby until 11:30pm both having had very late naps. Havoc won't nap after lunch anymore, but needs it and if not active will crash and fall asleep anytime after 4pm. Baby is still sleepy late morning and will nap and often again later in the afternoon. I need a nap all the time. 😂

Oh of course .... ! doh. I like our artificial tree, but it doesn't hve quite the same feel as a real one I guess.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 18/12/2024 16:34

Ducky, I've never had a fake tree, but I always admire how perfect the lights are on them. 😍 I only know one other person irl who gets a real tree each year.

Penguinsn · 18/12/2024 21:40

Death Your lunch sounds lovely, also dislike parsnips and swede. Floof is a very happy boy again, back in his natural state.

Love the pictures Havoc

Loving the snow MissC

Hope antibiotics are helping Bizzey

Love mince pies Sprouts

Went swimming after work with DH, well he sat on the side whilst I swam and went in jacuzzi and sauna - did 100 lengths of 15m pool, happy with distance but still under restrictions for arm movement so have to do either breaststroke for 6 weeks or a flappy backstroke which doesn't stretch the arms, can do both at normal speed but still have very tight stomach and have to be careful with one arm but happy overall.

DD has passed her driving theory test today with 49/50. DH went to doctors and they cleared his ears so his hearing is much better, not perfect but not too bad and he is very happy. Currys still refusing to refund £500 item they gave to someone else / lost or give replacement item, chargeback has worked but is only mine after 90 days. F&M also sent 1 item missing but only a tin of biscuits and got through to them and they are sending another, that took about 20 attempts too. Did a clean of kitchen tonight as well though floor still needs doing, DS has got mud over it from the garden.

sproutsandparsnips · 18/12/2024 21:54

@Mumtobabyhavoc thank you for lovely pics and info! Last year when we renewed our artificial Christmas tree DH managed to not only get one that requires a great deal of assembly but also is not pre lit, which is doubly inconvenient.
I think I've missed the canteen Christmas dinner........

MissConductUS · 18/12/2024 22:22

We had our Christmas lunch at work today, and the Mexican food was delicious. My work does a "deck the cubes" contest every year, and my department won for the second year in a row.

Well done on your swimming progress, Penguinsa. I'm surprised Curry's is being so intransigent over such an obvious error on their part. Speaking of F & M, there's a podcast I listen to from the Economist (the Daily Intelligence) that did a story on F& M and how they're doing so well when so many merchants are going out of business or struggling. They put it down to the festive atmosphere in the stores and the focus on posh foods. They have a hamper that sells for over 6000 pounds, but reportedly the most popular is about 200.

The electricians are coming back tomorrow to label the circuit breakers and the Bosch repair person is coming to replace the rinse aid tank in our new dishwasher. We've run it a few times since we got it two weeks ago. It's very quiet and does an excellent job cleaning and drying the dishes, even without the rinse aid. DH will work from home to deal with all of the tradesmen.

My brother and sister-in-law have invited us to Christmas lunch. It will be a much smaller gathering than they had for Thanksgiving.

How lovely to hear your calm news.

Arranged for DSD to be downstairs to receive a large parcel while DH was on an important work call. Obviously parcel didn't arrive but gifts arrived from my DM but addressed to DSD. Fortunately she played along with "I think you were very much mistaken because nothing arrived addressed to you and in fact nothing arrived, you must be imagining it".
I went to have lunch with SIL and dogs who were brilliantly behaved. Parcel was delivered 40 minutes before schedule.

We then had nibbles and prosecco even though the neighbours cried off. There was a moment when it looked as though our favourite prosecco was out of stock, but fortunately they found some down the back of the sofa.

DH decided to join me in watching a film rather than look at his many screens. I loved it. He didn't get it. Makes me wish more men would watch serious films about women's experience. In time they'll get it.

As per our house etiquette, (don't say you hate it, even if you hate it; don't talk or double screen while it's on; just because it's on, doesn't mean it's good; if it's brilliant/dreadful according to critics, you can pretend you thought it first, but don't be surprised if people think you're an arse), he said it wasn't his thing but he was glad he'd watched it.

I haven't seen it so don't have an opinion yet, but I'd like to see more women of all backgrounds in the lead roles.

mathanxiety · 19/12/2024 04:41

Duckling it's a real tree and sits in a stand that is basically a bowl on little legs, with screws that stick into the tree trunk and hold it upright in the bowl. The bowl contains water, which the tree absorbs if Dcat leaves any for it.

DD and I finished our Christmas shopping this evening after work, wrapped all the gifts for the two DCs who won't be home for Christmas, and then DD headed to a local social service agency where she was volunteering at a Christmas do, and I lugged two packages of gifts to the Post Office and the FedEx office. Both packages will arrive before Christmas, or so I was told. Anyway, it's out of my hands now. We weren't in the mood for cooking, so we ordered Chinese. In a bid to ward off colds, flu, and worse, mine was heavy on broccoli.

Tomorrow I have to put a bedroom in order for DD3 who will be arriving on Friday. This will include putting her bed back together. Hopefully I'll be able to find the bolts I took out of it a year ago.

HildaTablet · 19/12/2024 05:17

Annoyingly, I’m awake at 5 am. @Penguinsn, there’s a big thread on here about F & M and the shortcomings of their mail order operation. Seems lots of orders are either not arriving, or arriving late/damaged/incomplete, and it’s then very difficult indeed to contact them to put things right.

I have my own tale of delivery woe. An Amazon parcel was supposed to arrive yesterday afternoon and an email popped into my inbox saying it had been delivered. I was in, but they never ring the doorbell, just leave it by the door, which is where the email said it had been left. I went downstairs and there was no parcel. We have a large lockable box by the door and it wasn’t in there. It wasn’t on any of the neighbours' doorsteps. It wasn’t in any of the bins (!).

They hadn’t sent a photo of where it was left so I’m completely in the dark. Somebody has my parcel but I’ve no idea who. There are delivery instructions/directions permanently saved on my Amazon account so it’s very frustrating. According to customer relations they won’t do anything to help until I’ve waited 48 hours. Hopefully whoever has it will be a good neighbour and bring it along.

Deathraystare · 19/12/2024 07:47

@MyrtleStrumpet What was the film you watched?
@Mumtobabyhavoc Can you imagine the uproar if they did shell out for their staff? I can just see the headline in the Tory papers! "NHS shells out ££ for staff lunch!" Never mind all the other money wasted they would pick on that and have you believe we are dining on oysters, caviar and lobster!!!

Deathraystare · 19/12/2024 07:54

@Mi@MissConductUS

Funny that is the one food I do not like - Mexican. I love spicy food but find it too oily and hate those wrap things (tortillas) always taste doughy like they are not cooked. I admit I have only been to London to eat Mexican. I have had burritos and stuff but am quickly in the loo!! I quite liked whatever I had in Wahaca (restaurant not place in Mexico!) but cannot remember what I had.

Much prefer Thai - that is my favourite light and spicy. I have become obsessed with chillies but prefer a not too sweet chilli sauce. I love eggs with chilli and have a tomato and chili chutney to have with my crispbreads.

However Christmas day when I am working I think I will order a marguerita pizza from the guy that delivers here for the patients. Not over fond of pizza but it is ok. I will take it back with me and watch Home Alone on DVD!

Deathraystare · 19/12/2024 08:01

We have a fake Christmas tree at work but over in the main hospital they have a real one!

Surpringly our tree is still up. I think most years it goes unmolested by patients/visitors so that is good!

Cannot remember which of you ladies it was but I hope you find the bolts for your daughter's bed soon! Nothing says "Oh are you back, we barely missed you" than a bed without the bolts!!! Though of course you could make do with the mattress on the floor if it came to it!

Deathraystare · 19/12/2024 08:04

Oh forgot to say, the flu jabbers came yesterday. I had already had it. I mumbled about wishing they did the ovid one and they did! Result one sore right arm!! So I was a big brave girl! I did not sleep on it but you don't realise how much you use your right arm! I struggled (as usual) with my pull on bra this morning and felt my arm getting sore trying to hoik the strap up and my backpack right hand side strap refused to stay put when it could slide down my arm to cause more pain! Still it is done now.

Deathraystare · 19/12/2024 08:05

Covid not Ovid!

Deathraystare · 19/12/2024 12:40

You will be beside yourselves with excitement I know but contain your selves!!!!!!

I have just had another Christmas Dinner at work! This time I managed to also stuff Christmas pud and brandy sauce down my cakehole! And I ate all my spuds too! The sprouts were slightly more cooked this time.

Deathraystare · 19/12/2024 12:42

Ahhh it was @mathanxiety that needed to find the bolts for the bed! Hopefully you found them!
