We do a game at Christmas where instead of presents, we do useful gifts in bags for people to win. Things like mango slicers, those cards that double up as ice scrapers, that sort of thing.

Have you bought anything surprisingly useful that you use more than you thought you would that cost under £30 please? I really need some ideas this year!

A spurtle

formerbrosfan · 24/11/2024 18:38

A belt punch, a knife sharpener, a champagne stopper

Rhaenys · 24/11/2024 18:39

Sonic Scrubber, electric blanket, Dots for Spots and Deep Heat adhesive patches are the things I rave about, but I feel like 3 of those would be weird to give someone for Christmas. 😂

Those of you who mentioned having a little step up stool for reaching not sitting, can I ask for recommendations please?

I use this one. You can also get a slightly higher one as well.

The tyre is fine. It just doesn’t fit around the rim properly. I keep having the rim redusted and sealed but it just carries on. I do check it regularly

You don't drive a Skoda, do you? I have exactly the same problem with mine. I even bought a complete set of new tyres this year - it's still happening.

Right, back to thread topic...

IKEA bekvam step stool. Check the weight limits obviously!

I discovered swear words I never knew I knew when I put one of these together. A spare pair of hands helps - I was doing it on my own. But now it's up it's so secure and sturdy, I love it.

TicTac80 · 24/11/2024 19:11

Decent tupperware type stuff (that stacks), silicon ziplock bags, the tiny spatula things (good for scraping out stuff from jars). A decent travel mug and water bottle. :)

RainbowZebraWarrior · 24/11/2024 19:11

Regarding step stools, you can't go past a traditional Northumberland miners cracket stool. You can find vintage / antique ones on ebay for around £30. They are very sturdy and strong, and are just high enough to allow me access to the top of the wardrobe / top of kitchen cupboards and to change light bulbs. Lovely and decorative, too. I have this one in the hallway, and the 2nd one in the lounge which currently has my White Company advent calendar sitting atop it.

Apologies for the cat. He follows me everywhere and has to get in on any photo action!

@GreyDuck , the fat lolly head goes into the coin slot the stick of the lolly with they ring on stays out. You can use a yale key also .

Edited

So most of the trolleys near us are like the first column of your photo. The coin goes in a drawer which slides shut. I can see how this would work in the trolleys in the second column, but not the drawer-type. How would the lolly stick out?

Letmegohome · 24/11/2024 19:20

@GreyDuck they don't work on all trollies, it's hard to explain , but you could Google search it it might make more sense ( my explanations are sometimes a little random!)

A handy gadget for removing the foil from corked wine bottles, plus a wine cork remover that pops it out by air pressure! (Works like a mini bicycle pump). Buy both on Amazon for under £14.

My local Morrisons now only take an exact pound coin size. My token works in Lidl and Aldi but not Morrisons 😬.
