We do a game at Christmas where instead of presents, we do useful gifts in bags for people to win. Things like mango slicers, those cards that double up as ice scrapers, that sort of thing.

Have you bought anything surprisingly useful that you use more than you thought you would that cost under £30 please? I really need some ideas this year!

A craft light that goes round your neck and is all bendy so you can focus the light on where you need it but leaves your hands free. Good for reading or crochet work in the evenings.

My Aeropress was under £30 when I bought it but I think they’ve crept just over now. Anyway, I use it every day and it makes the best coffee.

Extra large ice cube tray (as in large cubes of ice).

USB cables with several connectors on the other end.

These trolley release keys are fantastic! No more scrabbling around for a pound coin or, even worse, on the ground when the coin fires itself out at speed!!

Electric blankets for the beds and 3m long charging cables. Proper luxury. And cheap slippers- not feeling obliged to keep them because they cost £40 but they are minging

Any sharpener. Amazon under £30. brilliant knife sharpener. Bought quite a few as gifts & everyone has said how good they find them!

Letter Opener. I bought it more because I thought it was lovely, but I use it every time I get mail. (I was going to say daily as it was pre cut backs!!)

one GOOD knife,I don't bother with sets.

a single 'step' that unfolds easily &folds slipping in nicely next to the washing machine. (probably only useful for other short arses!!)

I think everything else is more just having the right thing in the right place, more than something you could give as a gift). I think 1-2 Christmases I'd be wanting to change 'the theme'. Maybe a book you think they'd enjoy or 'something for the garden' (unless many don't have a garden etc). I like the idea though!

Panini press , zyllis garlic press (I use mine every day and it's much better than my old standard one), tile mate as I lose my keys constantly, reusable foldup shopping bag ,

Electric rechargeable hot water bottle. No more boiling kettles and hoping the steam doesn't get your hand.

ErrolTheDragon · 23/11/2024 14:24

Long handled teaspoons.

Silicone pastry mat

EATmum · 23/11/2024 14:25

Not sure exactly what it cost but I'd asked for a handheld steamer for my crochet work. I swear we use it every day, somehow far less of a faff than ironing.

Wheat germ bags that you heat up in the microwave. Peeps glasses cleaner gadget that means they are spotless for once. Perfume atomiser for handbag.
