We do a game at Christmas where instead of presents, we do useful gifts in bags for people to win. Things like mango slicers, those cards that double up as ice scrapers, that sort of thing.

Have you bought anything surprisingly useful that you use more than you thought you would that cost under £30 please? I really need some ideas this year!

Ikea Uppyflld vegetable scrubber for £1.

A multitude of uses.

Fifiesta · 23/11/2024 14:35

12 pcs rechargeable Tea lights with remote- warm white flickering dimmable with 2 usb charging cables.
A sinch to use, easy to recharge 6 at a time, and best of all you can turn them all off and on without individually turning them over to switch off and on…
Just under your budget cap.

Good idea! Do you swap though? All the suggestions here are sensible ideas but
for every one I would love, there are 2 I already have or would have no use for.

Colour change egg timer
Nutmeg or Parmesan grater with dish and lid
Picnic Raclette set
Tealight food warmers
Mini ice cream or slushy maker
Fondue set
Car emergency set (blanket, knife, hammer, sign etc)
Candle snuffer, wick trimmer, long lighter, dome or lid for scented candles
Travel USB oil diffuser and oils
Clockwork torch
Secateurs or garden knife
Gadget to see if plants need watering (instead of sticking your fingers in 😂)
Leather gaming size mouse mat (useful for non gamers too if you use a mouse and they look nicer than fabric ones)
Fruit/veg/cheese/deli meats storers that keep them fresh longer
Beeswax wraps or silicone covers
Freezer to oven Pyrex dishes with lids
Overnight oats jar

Sherpa blanket. Have managed to hold out on putting heating on until this week. Sleep so well with it, warm and cosy. Best blanket I've ever owned and I've been recommending it to everyone

Electric Heat pad from Amazon. Bought when I had pulled muscles in lower back hoiking heavy shopping out of boot of the car (like an idiot). I cannot put into words the comfort and relief! Costs pennies to run, have it on the back of the sofa and switch it on for a couple of hours in the evening. Fantastic.

A window vacuum from screwfix for £25. Sorts out my condensation winter windows much better than what I was doing before.

As PP, I also have a sherpa fleece blanket. Have it on the bed, and also bring it onto the sofa if feeling a bit "nesh". Everyone should have one.

Haven't rtft so Apols if someone else has posted...

But a tube squeezer off amazon. It works on everything - metal hydrocortisone tubes, toothpaste and my erborian CC cream. Cheap too.

Or a glass smasher for in a car.

Bought both last year.

KenAdams · 23/11/2024 14:44

These are brilliant keep them coming.

I own a few myself. Can highly recommend the koala belt water bottle BUT I've just bought a heating and tens pad which is amazing and was only about £12 so I've been using that instead as it's quite lightweight.

Good Grips vegetable peeler. I personally like the pen-shaped ones but some prefer the y-shaped ones.

Good Grips tin opener.

I look back on the many years I spent without these excellent tools as a bleak wilderness tbh.

QuirkyandGreen · 23/11/2024 15:13

Small dustpan and brush set from Homesense. Wood and silver not plastic so prettier. Perfect for crumbs on the counter top- saves wiping and getting a cloth full of crumbs!

66babe · 23/11/2024 15:16

Lidl special buy

£25 Silent night heated throw

Love it .. went back and bought 2 more for Xmas presents

Soupwithstring · 23/11/2024 15:21

Another one that I've literally just used:

A gravy/fat separator. I poured in the meat juices. Waited a few minutes. Poured the juices into a pan and left the fat in the jug. DH bought it for Xmas a few years back (asked for it!) and I LOVE it.
