He should have a cat with the cat that's just bounded through my garden, rather ambitiously trying to catch a magpie.

I'm sure he'll find something else to hunt. He's partial to a spot of bird hunting - even birds bigger than he is!

Putin is sabre rattling again…

PandoraSox · 22/11/2024 13:22

I have just seen this from Leanne Mohamad, who lost very narrowly to Streeting:

I have sent a letter of complaint this week to the Electoral Commission and

Redbridge electoral services outlining serious irregularities on the night of the count on July 5th in Ilford North, raising questions regarding compliance with electoral law and guidance. I have retained Bindmans LLP and specialist King’s Counsel on this issue and have asked the Electoral Commission to examine the activities of Redbridge Council

Does there seem to be any basis to this?

Not sure.

Does there seem to be any basis to this?

Doubt it. Why’s it taken her five months?

cardibach · 22/11/2024 15:21

Because it’s worth a try - at the moment she probably reckons she might win because of some of the less popular decisions and right wing shit stirring. Wasn’t worth it before. Doubt it will come to anything.

Has an election ever been re-run because of nonsense like this ?

Tens of thousands of people were unlawfully denied their vote in 2019, and the sum total of the response was "Oh dear. That's a shame".

And because a vote is worth nothing, you can't even sue for it.

cardibach · 22/11/2024 15:34

I don’t know. I e never heard of a rerun, and I imagine this far after the fact it would be very difficult to establish the truth anyway (not that 8 think there has been any wrong doing).
I’ve just looked at her Facebook. She says that Labour raised student fees because the ‘student vote is inconsequential’ so I don’t think she has much idea of how things work.

My understanding is that the law recognises there are some things it simply cannot remedy. At that point the courts basically give up.

I know I should ignore, but this is such a
daft post.

What has the fact that a) a Labour MP has allegedly committed a crime; and b) some Labour MPs had or have titles got to do with celebrating two brilliant Labour MPs who came from very humble backgrounds?

Tony Benn, the opposite of a hypocrite. Literally relinquished his title.

He was the Viscount Stansgate for all of three years of his long life.

Thank you all for the supportive messages. Appreciated.

I actually only posted to get the thread updates.

BTW Tony Benn deleted his past - inc public schooling - from Who’s Who. A genuine man who didn’t care about his privileged image, he was not.

Everybody knew his background.
So - a Labour MP getting rid of his peerage - not decent.
A Labour MP keeping his peerage - not decent.
I’m beginning to think you just don’t like Labour MPs.

Edit - you could always watch the thread instead of posting goady bollocks.

I can read Wikipedia too.

DuncinToffee · 22/11/2024 19:22

I can't read his Who's Who entry but Wiki mentions his schooling and background.

I enjoyed reading his page, I didn't really know much about him.

And because a vote is worth nothing, you can't even sue for it.

I asked one year when casting my vote, why our card numbers were recorded against our names, my concern was that it removed anonymity.
I was told that they keep the papers for x number of years(I forget how long), locked away, just in case there is an issue around irregularities. They can then go back and check.

I've never followed up on this as the choice is simply vote or don't vote and I am unlikely to change the system, so this could be a load of rubbish. Interesting in this case if true though

There's a great chapter on him in ' The Greatest Prime Ministers We Never Had' which is an excellent read. May have got the title a bit wrong.

Alexandra2001 · 22/11/2024 20:34

Shorter name, same style, requires the same response.

I shall look out that book - thank you.
Thanks also for the new thread - cat tax attached. Cat on the ground had no idea he was about to be pounced on from a great height. 🤣

If that is what you want, you could just post a full stop. No need to come in with a sneer, is there?
