Cheryl's son Bear

Cheryl being photographed at Liam Payne's funeral today got me thinking about how her son Bear has never been photographed.

I suspect this is because Cheryl hasn't given consent to photos being published but don't the media usually blur out faces of celebrity children if their parents haven't provided publishing consent?

Just wondered how Cheryl has managed to go all these years avoiding the paps and members of the public taking photos and for them to be published albeit with pixelated faces.

I admire her for protecting her child. Unlike Katie Price she doesn’t tell the paps where she is going.

SleepyRedPanda · 20/11/2024 17:33

Thinking about it, a huge number of celebrities keep their children out of the public eye. It’s really not that unusual.

Cheryl seems to be happy and content with motherhood and it has to be an extra difficult job when you are a celebrity.

Same as Peter Andres youngest 3 with doc wife

Faces never shown

Apart from the middle one. He walked into a live TV show Pete was doing.

DowntonNabby · 20/11/2024 17:34

Newspapers aren't allowed to publish faces of children in pap shots without pixellating them first. There's been a legal ruling about it.

Doggymummar · 20/11/2024 17:37

I was at a party with Norman Cook and his daughter Nelly last week the only photographer present was the one paid to cover the event. He asked for no photos of Nelly and they obliged. He was so sweet about her mum, I got to thinking they might reunite. Anyway I digress. What I mean is it is easy to live privately and with dignity if you don't announce where you're gonna be all the time. Yes I mean you Beckham family

Ginandloganberry · 20/11/2024 17:40

I heard that his name is Bear for the public but Cheryl uses a different name for her son in private to throw people off the scent and to protect him. It's not difficult to see why, fame seems to screw so many people up and send them in the wrong direction in life, no pun intended. I think she is 100% doing the right thing by her son.

It just goes to show that they can keep their family life private if they want to.

True, it occurred to me the other day that you never see pictures of the daughter that Paul McCartney had with Heather Mills. She must be grown up now and I can't even remember her name. It does show that children can be allowed to grow up away from the celebrity circus

Beatrice? She's the spit of him.

AquaPeer · 20/11/2024 17:44

I think things have moved on from the bear pit we’re remembering anyway (I.e Brooklyn beckham Siri cruise etc.) even the paying back grid stuff is pretty old hat now. People just aren’t that interested- if they ever were. The tabloid media of old used to whip this rubbish up and they’re pretty much irrelevant now thank goodness

Skunkaniseed · 20/11/2024 17:44

BellyPork · 20/11/2024 17:42

Yes, there's a photo of her with a very similar haircut to her dad and it's like looking at the same person.

Newbie1011 · 20/11/2024 17:46

Celebrities absolutely can protect their children’s privacy if they want to especially post Leveson, as Cheryl and Peter Andres wife and many others have done - if you see lots of pics of a celebrity’s kid it’s usually because they are making money out of it

Blinky21 · 20/11/2024 17:46

She's not famous enough anymore, it will change now though as interest in Bear growing up without a father increases

AquaPeer · 20/11/2024 17:47

Also i assumed bear Payne didn’t even go- he’s only about 7 isn’t he?!?

Lindjam · 20/11/2024 17:49

Just wanted to let people know that Cheryl does use mumsnet.

Don’t ask me how I know, but she does.

Everything here seems respectful and supportive but worth bearing in mind? 💐

NottsNora · 20/11/2024 17:56

An infamous WAG may or may not be a school mum and I have absolutely no tea to spill. But I was surprised to see one of the kids on the school website. No name was attached but we know this child and they frequently feature on IG posts.

It’s pretty unlikely she will today, wouldn’t you think?!

StressedEric · 20/11/2024 18:04

Good for her. If you are on MN and you read this Cheryl, have some 💐

LBFseBrom · 20/11/2024 18:07

Skunkaniseed · 20/11/2024 13:36

I think good for her for managing to keep his privacy intact, even moreso now he's going through the hardest thing any child will ever have to go through.

I agree.

Wendysfriend · 20/11/2024 18:07

I would think they had /have something in place to protect him.

It's nice to think that even with the tragic events that he has a son on earth who will give some comfort to Cheryl and Liam's family.

His poor parents 😔😔

Even with the sunglasses on most, you could really see the pain on all their faces. Simon looked a shell of himself.

I wonder why the girlfriends family didn't attend ? They were together for a longish time and seemed to have plans to marry, I would have thought they'd want to pay their respect ?

The interest in Bear has nearly all been about him being Liam’s son rather than Cheryl’s. Outside of the UK the difference in how well known Liam and Cheryl are is astronomical; if anything, abroad, Cheryl is known as the mother of Liam’s son rather than in her own right.

Always surprises me with any funeral of someone significantly in the public eye that there's always some random who turns up just to get their face in the paper looking at you, Damien Hurley .

Yep WTF is with the open shirt/medallion/oedipus complex look? That kid gives me the creeps big time…

JaniceBattersby · 20/11/2024 18:12

There is no injunction.

Privacy laws and conventions have changed significantly in recent years. The Editors’ Code says all children should have a right to privacy during their school years. Some years ago they included a clause that the celebrity status of a parent was not justification for the publication of pictures of children. Parents should usually give explicit consent for pictures or videos of their children to be used.

There are some exceptions. There’s a public interest clause which is only very rarely enacted. If your child is appearing on a red carpet or similar then you’re obviously implicitly consenting to their images being published. Or if they’re in a football crowd or walking down a high street as part of the general population etc that would be acceptable.

Sometimes parents repeatedly use images or videos of their children on social or other media in order to make a living. In those circumstances publishing the pictures is usually, but not always, treated as fair game. (The Beckhams, Junior and Princess Andre) Celebrities know this, which is why they specifically choose not to publish pictures of their children at all. (Cheryl, Adele, Emily Andre’s children)

Louis looked as devastated as he said he was in his tribute to Liam.

Perhaps Liam’s girlfriend’s family didn’t really know Liam’s parents or Liam himself. It was said to be a gathering for family and close friends, which despite the vast number of well known faces it predominately seemed to be.

It must have been a horrendously difficult day for Liam’s parents and sisters (and all who loved him). At least the tributes I’ve seen have been loving and supportive, so hopefully they have some comfort from that and Bear will have them to look back on.

LizzieSiddal · 20/11/2024 18:31

I think illegal in the UK to pront photos of those under 18 unless permission has been given by parents. If parents (looking at you, Beckhams) have exploited their dc and put their photos up on SM, or sold pics to Mags then the press think it’s fair game to print them.
Well done to Cheryl for looking after her son and letting him have a childhood without the press bothering him.

TheFairyCaravan · 20/11/2024 18:33

I admire celebrities who keep their children’s identities private. Could you imagine the intrusion for Bear the past few weeks if he’d been all over the World Wide Web, and been papped, all his life? The poor boy would have had a camera in his face morning, noon and night.

I hope they did find a way for him to attend the funeral if that’s what he wanted.
