Three poos a day

On the back of another thread, how many times a day do you poo. I am a 1- 3 times a day girl. Some posters on thread were saying it's a once a week event. Blew my mind!

I poo every morning as soon as I wake up and then have a shower immediately after.

Can’t stand the thought of not washing myself clean after a poo tbh and I always wonder how others are okay with just wiping.

Definitely prefer a pre-shower poo!

For other occasions wipe with some doublebase moisturiser, it's amazing at getting one's bottom clean 🙂

Sylviacrystal · 11/11/2024 23:17

I haven't pooed in five days. My tummy is nice and flat. I wonder where does it all go!

Tinkerbellflowers · 11/11/2024 23:30

Some of these replies have blown my mind. Twice a week is normal for me. And I eat healthily and do a lot of exercise.

I'm the same as you.

MysteriousUsername · 11/11/2024 23:50

Once a day usually, although some days twice. Usually as soon as I get up. Except Sundays which happens in the evening. Regular!

I'm another that has trouble on holidays. Ok if I'm just with my kids, but friends, nope, bowel is not moving. Worst was a canal holiday with a group, and tiny toilet. By the time I got home I was in quite some pain and fair ran to the loo!

Wow that's a lot that you poo three times a day. I can't imagine doing that.

How does your body get food through the stomach, small investing (very long) and large investing in a couple of hours.

I poo once every five days. I've always been like that.

It's interesting how everyone's system is different

How does your body get food through the stomach, small investing (very long) and large investing in a couple of hours.

It doesn't. The meals go through one behind the other with a gap in between, like how trains run down the same length of track one behind another with gaps in between.

I think "I shit multiple times a day so I'm super healthy" must be the weirdest MN flex yet

Seriously, chill. There's a wide range of "healthy". If you're not in discomfort and the shit is neither too loose nor too hard, you're probably doing OK.

I'm very glad I'm not to and from the crapper all day, though. I've always been about 3-5 times a week, normal BMI, no health issues to speak of.

MoonlightMemories · 12/11/2024 02:10

Anywhere from 1-6 times daily though very rarely can be 8 times...but I do have IBS and it will also vary greatly depending on my fibre intake. Some days I wonder how it's possible for me to possibly go any more when it's 5+ good sized ones a day 🤣.

@GlitterBallss Something changed with mine this past year or so where nearly every day I need the loo at least once not long after waking up, then I can easily need to go a few more times (often it comes on suddenly and very urgently) within the next few hours. Whether I get up in the morning or evening, the same thing happens, then tends to settle down for the rest of the day/evening. Makes me a bit anxious about doing anything in the morning like leaving for work, morning appointments in town etc incase there are no nearby loos available!

Wallywobbles · 12/11/2024 06:19

In terms of colon and stomach cancer faster transit is better. In countries/populations where transit time is under 10 hours (Masai) these conditions are not present. Or that's what I learnt at uni in the 90s. And it's stayed with me. But looking now I can't see much in current literature that confirms this.

familyissues12345 · 12/11/2024 07:21

Always at least twice a day, occasionally 3-4. Guarantee one as soon as I'm out of bed and the others then vary.

I do suspect I have IBS though and no longer have a gallbladder (I think that makes a difference?!)

unmemorableusername · 12/11/2024 08:38

Usually about an hour after my morning tea.

But it's less on the last few days of my cycle and more often on the first couple of days.

Very occasionally I'll go all day without. If I've eaten a lot of veg it'll be twice in a day.

Yes we're all individuals and that includes our bowel speeds! If we're healthy and not suffering with it then it's fine

I am amazed by the numbers on this thread! I go once a day usually; anything more usually means something is a bit wrong. Is it typical to go more often and I just never knew??

It really depends on diet for me, if I eat a lot of crap then yeah I go a lot.. sometimes 5 times a day! if I'm eating a healthy small portion diet then go once.

I can't imagine that.

Seriously, twice a week implies you're not eating much fibre, or drinking enough fluids.

30 gms of fibre a day is the goal.
almost none of the UK population eats that hence the high rates of bowel cancer.

GlitterBallss · 12/11/2024 09:11

If we're healthy and not suffering with it then it's fine

Bowel cancer takes decades to develop.

The 'healthy' amount of fibre is 30gms a day minimum.
Almost no one in the UK gets to that level.

Not eating enough fibre is a risk for bowel cancer because all the time poo is in your colon it's festering away with bacteria.

Fibre also reduces cholesterol .

To get 30gms a day that means lots of wholegrains - bread, cereal, pasta, rice,
at least 5 fruits and veg, pulses, beans, nuts, etc.

The daily poo-rate is called fast or slow transit time.
Once or twice a week is very slow.

I sometimes got 3 or 4 times a day and other days I don’t go at all. My bowels are very unpredictable and I often need to do that which is unthinkable on Mumsnet and go at work, in a restaurant and even at another person’s house. When I need to go, I need to go and I’d really rather do it in a toilet than poo my pants.

Me too!
My usual rate is 3 times, but can be up to 5 or 6, depending on what I have or haven't eaten!
My goings are also unpredictable, have had 3 days of textbook poos and "no wipes" and this morning I've just done my 3rd and it's not even 10am! I can't keep up!!!
My friend stayed at the weekend and could hardly eat anything on Saturday night, as she hadn't been for 7 days!!! What the hell is that about?! 🤣

We are poo twins 🤣
I think I have IBS. My doctor never seems concerned and just always says anything between 3 a day to 3 times a week is normal. However, I’m like you and sometimes I need to go loads of times in one day. I went out for a meal last week and had to go three times when I was out - I have no idea why! It’s so annoying.

MoonWoman69 · 12/11/2024 10:41

@CurledUpLikeADog I even had a strange occurrence of having to get up 3 times last week at 2am for a "normal" poo! What the hell bowels, I'm asleep!!! Aww I have a poo twin, this makes me stangely happy!!! 🤣

MoonWoman69 · 12/11/2024 10:43

@Sylviacrystal Well, as you can see from the thread, all of us seem to have differing functions, don't understand why you singled me out particularly! But hey ho, if it made you feel better to have a little comment, all good! 🙄

I didn't single you out.?

I replied to something that you wrote specifically in your post.

You said your friend hadn't pooed for 7 days and" what the hell is that about.'

I replied to that by showing that you are also at the extreme end of the spectrum, you said that you pooed three times in one morning.

So you and your friend are both at extreme ends of the spectrum

MoonWoman69 · 12/11/2024 10:57

@Sylviacrystal I didn't read like that, but fair enough, words on a screen.
I've had long enough to become familiar with my erratic loo habits, so it's become the norm for me! Even my friend said "what the hell is that about?" when she told me her situation! Definitely not normal for her!

Medics say that up to 4 times a day is normal. It's not extreme at all.
Many people do go after each meal.

More than that it's sometimes IBS or a bug.

Whichever way you look at it, poo is better out than in for bowel health.

Medics don't say that at all.

Medics say that 3 times a day to 3 times a week Is within the average normal range.

So anyone going more than three times a day, is not within the normal range.

They may be totally fine. But just to clarify -that is not what medics say is a normal range.

Can’t stand the thought of not washing myself clean after a poo tbh and I always wonder how others are okay with just wiping.

I’d struggle to shower in the office, at the train station, out for dinner …. I’m guessing you don’t have too much of an imagination if you have to wonder about it too much.
