Getting home from holiday - what is the first thing you do?

We just got home from holiday this morning at 9.30am. Once I get in I have to get the first load of washing on as soon as I can. I start the washing machine. Even before showering etc. my first load is done and in the dryer. What is the first thing you do?

Open the windows and make a brew!

NewNameNoelle · 08/11/2024 11:05

Cuddle pets, washing on, cup of tea

Soupwithstring · 08/11/2024 11:05

Open all the windows. I hate the stale smell in the house. (we live in a damp, c17th thatched cottage).

And then sort out all the post. Then unpack.

squashyhat · 08/11/2024 11:05

Wade through the mountain of advertising flyers on the mat to see if there's any actual post.

TwattyMcFuckFace · 08/11/2024 11:06

Make a massive fuss of the dogs.

Have a cup of tea.

Read any post.

Have something to eat if we're hungry.

Chill out.

DH normally wants to put the washing on straight away and if we arrived home at 9.30am, he probably would while I made the bacon sandwiches.

IDontLikePinaColadas · 08/11/2024 11:06

Cup of tea and a shower. Then I tackle the washing.

LIZS · 08/11/2024 11:06

Put kettle on

bevelino · 08/11/2024 11:08

If coming home from abroad, I put the passports away in their usual place.

VestPantsandSocks · 08/11/2024 11:11

Put the heating on!

BrendaSmall · 08/11/2024 11:12

Depends what time we get home!
if it’s after 6/7pm then I unpack and then put cases away and carry on as normal, if it’s morning then washing gets put on and then I sort out everything, any time after bedtime, then everything gets left until the morning and I have a shower and go to bed

Let the cats out, then put washing on, hoover up the cat litter that has inevitably been kicked around the place, then shower. The cats don't go out if I'm away as they're arseholes timid of strangers, who won't come back for anyone else 😂 so they're always desperate to go outside, they also hold a grudge and will ignore me until they feel I have been punished enough for leaving them with that strange woman(my mother).

ObliviousCoalmine · 08/11/2024 11:14

Fall over in a heap?

DramaAlpaca · 08/11/2024 11:17

Put the kettle on

Itoldyousoo · 08/11/2024 11:19

Flush all the toilets !

RosieLeaLovesTea · 08/11/2024 11:19

Well we had been travelling for 24 hrs. We left at 5pm on Thursday and it’s an 8 hr time difference ahead and a nigh flight but we gained the gift of time. Then 2 a drive from Heathrow. But I love getting the washing on🥳

SisSuffragette · 08/11/2024 11:22

Wash my hands, walk in the garden to see my plants, then open windows and put washing on

PhilosophicalCheeseSandwich · 08/11/2024 11:24

Run the kitchen tap for a bit, put the kettle on, open windows.

Comedycook · 08/11/2024 11:24

Same as you op ..laundry as soon as I walk through the door. After the last holiday, I had eight loads of holiday washing!

cheezncrackers · 08/11/2024 11:27

Laundry for me too! Our dirties are always in separate bags so it's easy to pull out, sort and bung in the machine. And then a cup of tea usually.

Plump82 · 08/11/2024 11:27

Cup of tea and a huge fuss of the cats. My last holiday had a washing machine in the apartment so I did all my washing before I came home which was quite honestly life changing and I'm never going anywhere without a washer from now on!

Nothatgingerpirate · 08/11/2024 11:29

I don't bother with holidays anymore.
👍

boulevardofbrokendreamss · 08/11/2024 11:29

Laundry here too. We bag up washing by colour so just pull out a bag and stick it on.

Oldwomanwithperkybosoms · 08/11/2024 11:31

Washing seems to be the number one task and understandable but why do I get the feeling that it's almost always the women who does this. Would I be wrong to think the woman does all the packing too before going on holiday? Assuming there's a male partner or husband on the scene 🫤

I used to do this but now we either do the washing before we leave holiday and arrive home with it all clean, or I do two loads before we leave for holiday and leave it to dry so it's all ready when we come back. Depends where we go. Went to Spain a couple of weeks ago so obviously we won't be wearing the clothes we wore there again for another 6-8 months! So having lots of clean laundry to come back to was good.
