OK mildly interested by it then. But obviously that's a crime now 🙄

What do you look like then? Come on, share a pic so we can all comment on your appearance. It's just fun!

No way is there only as 6" height difference though. It's at LEAST 10 inches! I reckon his son is 6 ft 4 to 6 ft 5, and Gary is 5 ft 6. I am not buying the 6" difference.

But where would the 6ft 2 figure have come from if it’s wrong? Very few men pretend to be shorter than they are - especially if their heights are being discussed in the press when they’re not even famous. I can get that Gary Barlow might add an inch or two, but his non-famous son claiming to be shorter? Why?

I think it’s VERY hard to tell the exact height difference from a photo. People underestimate what a six-inch difference (for example) looks like until they see it close up. Take it from a tall woman who’s been told more than once that she must be taller than 5ft 11 “because I’m 5ft 5 and no WAY are you only six inches taller than me”.

If Gary Barlow is more 5ft 6 than 5ft 7, and his son is on the high side of 6ft 2, that’s nearer to eight inches - plus in the original pic, Barlow Jnr has noticeably high hair and quite big shoes. I don’t think there’s a ten-inch difference.

I’m pretty disgusted at the amount of negative X and general media content about a young persons appearance. The comments / memes are not all pleasant. Some may be trying to be funny but if it was my child who was being mocked I would be very upset.

GB chose well to keep his children out of the limelight and should be incredibly proud of his hard working and handsome son, who unlike many other ‘celebrity’ children have the strength of character to work hard and create their own life path in a demanding career path such as medicine.

What does it matter if he is tall? It’s a happy family photo and should be viewed as such.

It's not negative though. Have you been on Twitter? It's a really good natured, light-hearted vibe. Tone matters, and the tone is joyful, and very much laugh with rather than laugh at.

ETA: the tone in relation to GB's son. Not the general tone on Twitter. Nothing joyful about that any more unfortunately.

I don't have a famous dad that's much taller than me so there wouldn't be the same level of interest would there? Do you also get offended by people saying "wow doesn't he look like Gary!" as well? 😱

SpidersAreShitheads · 07/11/2024 22:06

I think it’s really funny and all the memes are great. I love it when loads of people come together online for something lighthearted. Lord knows we all need something to smile about right now.

No one is being deliberately mean to his son. The son isn’t even that tall at 6”2 so it’s unlikely to be a sensitive issue for him. No one ribs men who are 6”2 for being giants, it’s pretty common.

It’s the photo that makes it funny. Gary is shortish for a man, and his son is tallish. This combined with the angle of the photo creates an exaggerated effect that’s funny.

Making light of a funny image isn’t bullying.

My dad was only 5”5 and my brother is 6”4. Our family photos were hilarious 😂 I can remember one where my dad stood on a chair so he’d be taller than my brother - they were in stitches 😂❤️

This meme did make me laugh 😂

No, but I do get offended by people thinking it is funny to laugh at a young person on social media for his appearance.

Hey if that makes me a killjoy, I'll take it. Rather than than being a bullying troll.

The thing is though, I’m not seeing people laughing at him. They’re laughing at a photo which exaggerates a height difference. I’ve seen countless comments all acknowledging the fact that he’s not even that tall really.

Exactly! My son is 6 foot 8 and has been howling laughing at this.

I can't believe how utterly joyless and keen to take offence some people are.

100% agree. Can't believe some of the mood hoovers on this thread. Some people really need to lighten up! Imagine being sooooo offended at something clearly so light hearted?

Maybe they need a snickers bar... They're not them when they're hungry! 😆

He’s a 6 foot 2 Ironman completing medical student who has obviously been raised well, I’m sure he isn’t going to become a puddle of jelly over people on the internet joking about him being taller than his famous dad. Grin

Exactly. And being tall (but not excessively) has never been considered anything other than an asset for a man. He must be baffled by the unwanted sympathy!

Firefly1987 · 07/11/2024 22:45

@rubeexxcube I'm a Take That fan so I'd hardly approve of anyone bullying any of their kids. Again it's the height difference between them being noteworthy, not his son's appearance. If Gary was also tall no one would be making any memes.

Some people just aren't use to being around men 6ft and above.
I think it's a lovely family photo and he's a nice looking young man.

5 ft 9 to 5 ft 10 IS NOT SHORT FOR A MAN!

And you don't get to speak for 'most women!'

Honestly, your attitude stinks. You are clearly obsessed with tallness, and it's WEIRD.

You are obsessed with tallness. At least own it.

Rightly or wrongly, a shorter man is not the ideal in many women’s eyes.

And also, not all women think like you! You don't speak for me.

Your husband needs to speak to a therapist if he thinks he is short at 5 ft 9 to 5 ft 10. Your attitude is very likely not helping him!

.

Edited

Oh do take a chill pill! It might not be SHORT for a man, but it's hardly tall either.

BusterGonad · 08/11/2024 04:40

Basic humour for basic people I guess.

Alondra · 08/11/2024 04:46

Even if Barlow is 5'6, his son is much taller than 6'2 from the photograph. I will say he's 6'4.

AmusedMaker · 08/11/2024 06:26

My son is 6ft 4 and my DD is 6ft.
Their height has been ridiculed for years & as a result they’re very self conscious.
for some reason laughing openly at someone’s height is ok. People seem to think being taller than average is an ok thing to comment on.
my DD has had people say to her face ‘ what’s the weather like up there? hahaha ‘

PickleSarnie · 08/11/2024 19:11

Equating this to mocking women for being overweight is ridiculous. Given how much importance is given to being tall in society (especially/mainly for men) - it's proven that tall men are more likely to be sucessful, happier and paid more than their shorter peers - I struggle to see how he will be upset about being called tall.

Redcrayons · 08/11/2024 19:21

I haven’t see anything but lighthearted jokes and I’ve seen a few more Giant Sons of famous people posting.

the slight angle of the photo exaggerates the difference between them.

I hope GB’s son wasn’t offended. It was a daft little joke on an otherwise dumpster fire of a day.
