I'm amazed that this is around the average height for a male. I always assumed it was 6'

My DD is 6ft 2in, she is unbelievably gorgeous and totally unable to see it because of shit like this.

My dh is 6’5 and has always been fine with it but my teen dd is 6ft and very aware of her height. It’s always the first thing anyone comments on.

It's meant to be light-hearted. He's a tall man, he's won life's lottery I'm sure he's not too upset about it.

It's unasked for comments about a young person's physicality who has never asked to be in the spotlight. It's not shaming deliberately but it's poking fun at him when he shouldn't really be a target.

Gary Barlow's son may find it very funny, but I can think of plenty that would be a bit hurt and want to just go about their business. As I say if was just about height that's one thing (still not ideal in principle) as he isn't a remarkable height, but the wording of all these memes isn't about him being tall. I think if it's a young person who has never asked to be famous, leave them out of personal jokes.

I think the thing is, Gary Barlow is someone people enjoy taking the Mick out of as he is talented but earnest etc and he seems to have accepted that. Not really fair for that to include his kids

All the memes I've seen have been have been pictures of Gary Barlow, the 'massive son' is anonymous and not in shot (except in the original pic). Don't even know his name.

I think it caught on because everyone needed a little light-hearted banter while waiting for the results of the US election and it really wasn't intended in a mean way.

No young man is ridiculed for being 6' 2" it's considered an excellent thing.

Why is everyone so obsessed with this?

It was like the golden age of Twitter - lots of good natured jokes and memes, and that thing where everyone is talking about the same thing so it's unifying. No coincidence it happened on US election day either - everyone logging in for news so higher than usual traffic, and everyone delighted for a bit of light relief.

There really really wasn't any mean edge to it.

I think it’s just the angle making the difference look more pronounced; plus Barlow Jnr has a larger frame as well as being taller. According to the article I read, Gary is 5ft 7, so seven inches shorter than his son. Add a pair of chunky trainers on his son and it could be around an eight inch difference, which is quite noticeable.

I always thought he had two girls and not boys , but then I don't really follow him or Take that anymore. His a good song writer and very talented and his son looks nice. Apart from a tax dodging scandal or something similar many years ago, he seems one of the more grounded celebrities, but I've no idea really.
