Just heard on the news abroad he fell from the third floor off a hotel in Buenos Aires, if true it's very sad as he was so young and seemed like a lovely guy

I don’t know anything about this case, of course I knew of Liam Payne and 1D but I had no idea of any scandals or problems, just knew the names.

It’s hard to imagine what that kind of fame and money entails, it seems to be very difficult for some people to handle.

I wish more people felt free to step back, withdraw from public life. Don’t do interviews, don’t date anyone who is also in the public eye if you can avoid it. Just go somewhere you can take care of yourself, let your family look after you if you’re lucky enough to have one, and enjoy the money. I don’t know what the chances of managing that are, but I wish more people would.

Feel dreadfully sorry for his parents and friends, it is heartache like no other.....But, from what l have read, drugs were involved, his choice..

Just saw his last video on Snapchat. He's not very nice to his girlfriend in it.

He says to her "it's bad manners to leave a hat on the table , is this yours'

She says yes.

He says "child" at her

Karmaisagod · 17/10/2024 17:43

@LolaLouise, was it you who was wondering if there'd be any kind of #bekind movement? The allontheboard guys have done a board and put it on their stories. It's subtle and doesn't mention Liam directly, but I think the reference is clear.

There's a lot of people here blaming the trauma of fame but tbh he was smoking crack in his hotel room, the pictures on SM show the paraphernalia clearly. You don't bore holes in coke cans and light tea lights cos you're making an art installation do you.
He wasn't allowed in the pool cos staff saw him intoxicated, they escorted him back to his room and he was shouting that he wanted to go in the pool and by the looks of it tried to dive from his balcony hence why he went head first.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that many people on this thread haven't done crack so let me simply say that it is not conducive to making the smartest decisions.

It's sad. But every death of this type is complex with a whole range of issues including addiction, mental illness and perhaps also fear of being further exposed for his alleged domestic violence.

It's easy to try to make sudden young death less scary by seizing on some kind of lesson that can be learned from it but honestly as an ex addict my main takeaway is to be reminded once again of how horrific class A drugs are. How they strip a person of their soul, dignity and decency.

Other than that, it's just sad. I feel greatly for his family and especially his little by.

Completely agree. Very sad.

Drug addiction (and other addictions) are never a choice. Never.

Absolutely. I lost a friend to drugs when we were teens. He was such a happy person on the outside but was also heavily bullied. Drugs were originally taken to fit in, then to numb the pain. No one is taking crack for fun, if you’ve reached that point something is very, very wrong.

Hazeby · 17/10/2024 17:54

As there are so many famous people with addiction problems, it makes me wonder whether it’s the fame that turns normal people like this OR is this type of addictive personality the one that wants to be famous in the first place.

cattywat · 17/10/2024 17:02

Is this true he was smoking crack? Can you link the pics with the proof ?
And how do you know that's what happened ? Not being goady but genuinely interested how you know these facts

‘He wasn't allowed in the pool cos staff saw him intoxicated, they escorted him back to his room and he was shouting that he wanted to go in the pool and by the looks of it tried to dive from his balcony hence why he went head first.’

this is the account of people at the hotel, that they didn’t let him in the pool because he was intoxicated and he attempted to jump from his balcony. Apparently this is the case with a lot of young men who die in hotel balcony incidents.

Roobarbtwo · 17/10/2024 17:58

It's awful. It must be really tough to be that famous that young - particularly when it's clear he completely lost his way. I feel so sorry for Cheryl and his son, band mates and his family - addiction is awful no matter how much money you have or don't have - and as for those photos of his body - terrible. I feel for anyone suffering in the same way

DoughBallss · 17/10/2024 17:59

This news has affected my mood all day and I’m not too sure why.

Life really is very fragile and there’s no doubt a lot of people who knew him that will be hurting

I think it must be a mixture of personality types ( ypu don't go into hugely unstable industries if you are risk averse) and opportunity- surrounded by hangers on who will get you whatever you want either because they depend on you for their income or they are dazzled by fame, enough money to buy as many drugs as you like and a nomadic lifestyle touring all over the place meaning you aren't around family or old friends a lot.

Yeah it's made me sad too. He was so young.

Cremacreme · 17/10/2024 18:02

I also saw - early , around 6am - a video of what was apparently his hotel room with a commentary about drugs being taken and it was showing the drugs and a smashed TV. These people that post this don’t seem to comprehend that he was a person , a person who was loved. A son , a brother - a father ! His son is 7 , he will have to see these videos one day.

Yet you watched it….

The two Simons (Fuller and Cowell) did transform the music industry and indeed television with their talent shows (of course Cowell was inspired by Opportunity Knocks and New Faces) in creating instant stars, but they cannot be blamed for choices people make.

The problem with a vehicle like Idol, X Factor, Got Talent is the fame is instant, there is no working the small clubs to hone your craft, building up an audience, and become hardened to the industry; this development stage has been skipped. Those who do well in these shows become big overnight, and in the case of 1D very very big. There is no grounding, and a more fragile character like Liam can suffer. Contestants haven't done the hard yards which builds up your defences.

Excellent post.

Same …just so bloody sad and avoidable.

TreacleMoon · 17/10/2024 18:07

Typical media reaction, they'll now hound the person who is dead and dig up whatever they can fine to perpetuate this story. Earlier today it was "his parents are devastated" but it's now "his room was in Total Disorder" - the current BBC headline.
Honestly, do we need to know anything other than this young man was going through something unspeakable, he was still a person, a friend, a son, brother and a father!
I feel so incredibly sorry for those who loved Liam, having to see this awful trashy click bait, because that's exactly what it reads like..

Shame on the BBC and every other news outlet publishing anything other than the basic information strictly necessary.

Cremacreme · 17/10/2024 18:08

@TreacleMoon i agree with you but unfortunately people do click.

He spoke about at the height of his fame that the band were locked in hotel rooms for their own safety due to the presence of fans - with minibars. Dave from Depeche Mode had a drug issue as a lot of people know and I remember an interview where he said - he could access all the drugs he wanted because money was never going to run out. Like - One direction split when Liam was 24-he was a multi millionaire - with struggles. It's just a shame he didn't stay clean after his last rehab stint. Tragic really
