Just heard on the news abroad he fell from the third floor off a hotel in Buenos Aires, if true it's very sad as he was so young and seemed like a lovely guy

Katie waissel is having a go at Simon Cowell now about Liam Paynes death. She said that Simon put profit before people's wellbeing.

I agree that they should treat popstars should be treated more like humans and less like objects. They shouldn't be worked to the bone.

However a lot of companies that people work for , put profit before people's wellbeing. So Cowell is not the only one that does it

Quite.

Also Lucy Spraggan spoke well of him post her rape while she was on X factor,, so he'd clearly been very supportive, not all about profit. Apparently he walked her down the aisle at her wedding.

And I don't think 1D had worked with him in a while, it's a bit odd putting it all on him. The industry itself is fucked for young people and instant fame.

I remember Geri Halliwell said she left the spice Girls because they wouldn't let her have time off.

The music industry does have total control over them

I remember girls at school in hysterics, sobbing, crying and inconsolable.

I was in all girls school at the height of 1D fame and our school had an assembly about the support they could offer to people upset about Zayn leaving… girls were crying and wailing in the halls and wearing black scarves in mourning. It was mad.

I was a huge TT fan, but an even bigger Jason Orange fan, so when he left I lost interest a bit. It did hit me like a ton of bricks when he left though. I used to follow them from when they started, but as I grew up and they became more popular, it got harder to meet them so I stopped going, but up until he left I knew I could always see him if I really wanted to.

I remember getting an internet tv box thing just so I could search for updates on him 😂

@User1836484645R

I had to Google to find out who he was.

What did you think this added to the thread?

Such a strange thing to post on a thread about a dead young man.

GoosieLucie · 17/10/2024 16:38

What a shame. It only seems like a few years ago when Simon Cowell created One Direction from a group of fresh-faced young boys on the X Factor.
I was surprised to learn that this young man was 31, I would have thought much younger, as they were just teenagers when they started - but time flies and it's obviously much longer ago than I'd thought.
Very sad really. He never had much of a life. Plucked out of childhood into fame, in order to line the pockets of a host of others. Exploited? Probably. 🙁

LolaLouise · 17/10/2024 16:45

I truly believe this had some impact on him.

His ex wrote a book and did an interview. There was a story about him forcing her to have a termination, but then leaving her to deal with it alone whilst he partied. She also gave details about an incident whilst he was in 1D he had spoken about previously but not mentioned names or elaborated, she made details public. At the niall show he was posing with fans and interacting alot, people were calling him out in comparison to harry who avoided the spotlight when he went to a niall show. They called him attention seeking and critised him for trying to "steal" niall limelight at his own show. It escalated alot on SM, they began to criticise his contribution to the band, as he was credited as writer on very few songs compared to the others, they dragged his solo music as harry louis and niall again write and preform their own music where as he doesnt. All i have seen these past few weeks is constant criticism of his music, his looks, his personality, how unlikeable he is etc. It all stemmed from his ex's tell all, which showed him in a bad light, and his behaviour at the Niall show.

For someone who already had poor mental health, and reoccurring suicidal thoughts, the level of negative talk on SM could have been a contributing factor to a MH crisis or an increase in drug taking destructive behaviour.

But I'd bet my last £1 theres no public #bekind movement for him. `

"She also gave details about an incident whilst he was in 1D he had spoken about previously but not mentioned names or elaborated, she made details public"

What does this bit refer to please?

previously Liam had spoken about disagreements in the band and how one time a member had thrown him up against a wall. He didnt give specifics about which member or the disagreement. Hi ex made it public that it was Zayn in the time leading up to him leaving the band and some of the circumstances around it. Obviously, this detail was not something Liam wanted to be made public, as, if he did, he would have named Zayn in the original interview. Its not a massive secret, however, it contributed to the negative comments he has received over the past few weeks with people sharing footage of 1D where it seems the other members are pissed of at him.

Mrsdoyler · 17/10/2024 17:01

He was definitely in the news very negatively recently.

GiveMeSpanakopita · 17/10/2024 15:52

There's a lot of people here blaming the trauma of fame but tbh he was smoking crack in his hotel room, the pictures on SM show the paraphernalia clearly. You don't bore holes in coke cans and light tea lights cos you're making an art installation do you.
He wasn't allowed in the pool cos staff saw him intoxicated, they escorted him back to his room and he was shouting that he wanted to go in the pool and by the looks of it tried to dive from his balcony hence why he went head first.

I'm going to go out on a limb here and guess that many people on this thread haven't done crack so let me simply say that it is not conducive to making the smartest decisions.

It's sad. But every death of this type is complex with a whole range of issues including addiction, mental illness and perhaps also fear of being further exposed for his alleged domestic violence.

It's easy to try to make sudden young death less scary by seizing on some kind of lesson that can be learned from it but honestly as an ex addict my main takeaway is to be reminded once again of how horrific class A drugs are. How they strip a person of their soul, dignity and decency.

Other than that, it's just sad. I feel greatly for his family and especially his little by.

Is this true he was smoking crack? Can you link the pics with the proof ?
And how do you know that's what happened ? Not being goady but genuinely interested how you know these facts

Mrsdoyler · 17/10/2024 17:03

I was just looking at the hotel photo showing the drop and I was and thinking, 'if only he was staying on the first floor." He would have probably survived.

So many random decisions in life affect us

The two Simons (Fuller and Cowell) did transform the music industry and indeed television with their talent shows (of course Cowell was inspired by Opportunity Knocks and New Faces) in creating instant stars, but they cannot be blamed for choices people make.

The problem with a vehicle like Idol, X Factor, Got Talent is the fame is instant, there is no working the small clubs to hone your craft, building up an audience, and become hardened to the industry; this development stage has been skipped. Those who do well in these shows become big overnight, and in the case of 1D very very big. There is no grounding, and a more fragile character like Liam can suffer. Contestants haven't done the hard yards which builds up your defences.

Mrsdoyler · 17/10/2024 17:05

How did the press get photos of the inside of his hotel room?

Only police and hotel workers would have seen that

Yes but you could also argue that Niall Horan, who went through the exact same process is happy and very healthy..

So instant fame is probably one factor in leading to destructive behaviour, but it is also due to other factors in the person's personality.

Even some of those who did all that ended up in similar circumstances sadly

I do think that need to treat contestants on those shows with more humanity, and not just see them as a product to market

Yeah It depends on their upbringing too.

Oasis - built their way up in small bars. A lot of them had bad drug addiction issues. As they had grown up in an area that did a lot of drugs.

Westlife - you've never heard of any of them having drug issues. Probably because they grew up in an area where not a lot of people were doing drugs.

Respectfully, Gaza has nothing to do with this and there’s no need to mention it on this thread.

The point was pictures of dead people are published all the time. Perhaps they shouldn't be

I think a lot of people are naive about the number of bog standard young people that lose their lives to drugs and alcoholism, just because you dont read about it, doesnt mean it isnt happening.

Totally agree. We only know about this case as it's in the press. Similar is happening on our doorsteps to people every day

Yes definitely. And other issues going on in their world too. Plus it seems that Niall is generally liked whereas Liam was not and the latest that came out from his ex has further damaged his reputation and people are fucking cruel. I cannot defend what he did to his ex girlfriend, but how many more famous people have to be abused online until they end up dead or seriously unwell?

Britney, Caroline Flack, that Mike guy from LI, that girl from Little Mix - some many people who have died or been close to suicide and the abuse online has been horrific. Then suddenly it’s all #BeKind.

Yeah it's sad that they can't really do any of their romantic relationships in private

It says that simon Cowell has cancelled BGT filming
