Just heard on the news abroad he fell from the third floor off a hotel in Buenos Aires, if true it's very sad as he was so young and seemed like a lovely guy

I don't understand why everyone is so shocked. His struggles with alcohol and drugs, his mental health problems and his abusive behaviour have been well-documented for years. He's had relationship after relationship break down due to the above, so why is everyone so surprised?

I get what you mean, it's not a surprise all things considered. It's just still a shock when someone young dies

Because many, many people have all the above issues and aren't dead at 31.

It perhaps isn't a surprise but it is still a shock and very sad

Hazeby · 17/10/2024 09:29

I feel sorry for the 16 year old him, who must have thought his all dreams were coming true. Fame is so destructive for some people.

He may have gone down the same path if he'd ended up doing a normal job.

Self destructive people often just have no control, sadly.

Because he's so young.

Lots of people have addiction issues and don't die that young

Yes but a lot of people have said that they weren't able to handle fame at a young age.

He's spoken about this before, that he regretted becoming famous, that he felt like he lost himself

cattywat · 17/10/2024 09:32

I'm seeing online he was trying to dive into the pool? Apparently he wanted to go in the pool and was behaving erratically but was taken back to his room before this happened.
Either way it's awful and I am truly shocked, I was only speaking about him the other day as he's been in the media alot the last couple of weeks.
Really feel for his family and his son, imagine this breaking before you've even been told ?! What a way to find out. Awful.

Did the police out there just go straight to the press?

People tend to notice when someone falls/jumps off a third floor to a public street.

VenusClapTrap · 17/10/2024 09:35

My mum met One Direction many years ago, at the height of their fame. In Buenos Aires, ironically enough. I was there for work, and my mum came along with me to see the city. I was out at work one day, and she was sitting up by the hotel pool on the roof, when they turned up and sat on sun beds next to her. She had no idea who they were.

They realised she was British (when she ordered a drink or something, I forget) and started chatting to her.

I returned to the hotel later to find swathes of fans crowded around the hotel entrance with banners and stuff, and massive security controlling who could enter the hotel. Caught up with my mum and she told me she’d spent the day with a bunch of ‘lovely young boys who were obviously missing their mums’ (which was why she thought they’d enjoyed her company). She thought it was hilarious when I told her who they were, and when she saw the crowds outside the hotel.

How sad that LP’s life panned out in the way it did.

Well we'll never know but I bet he'd have lost himself whatever he did. Addicts (which he admitted he was publicly) always blame their circumstances.

Completelyjo · 17/10/2024 09:37

I’ve been pushed some of his TikTok’s over the last 2 weeks or so and I was just thinking how unhinged he seemed and then I seen this news this morning.

I don’t think that’s particularly fair, there is a very clear correlation between fame and in particular fame young and mental health conditions along with substance abuse. It’s much more of a problem statistically than in the general population.

It was an inner courtyard

Did you see the dailymail are reporting that the hotel rang 911, before Liam Payne died.

Because they said that he was in a very bad state, and there Was a balcony in his room and they were worried that something would happen.

That's so sad. And it's kind that they were trying to look out for him and get help

yeaitsmeagain · 17/10/2024 09:39

"seemed like a lovely guy" or his ex got a restraining order 2 days ago because he wouldn't leave her - or her mum, or friends - alone and constantly bombarded them all from tons of different accounts and phone numbers. Even though he's been in a relationship with someone else for a year.

It could have gone the opposite way. If he hadn't made it into 1D he may have spiralled due to the rejection. Sometimes circumstances are a factor but not the main cause.

Where do you see restraining order? Link please.

All I see is that his ex got her lawyer to send him a cease and desist letter.

Yes some people are probably better able to handle fame than others. And some people are more prone to be addicts than others

And some people go and do the things they missed out on at a later page.

I saw Niall horan saying he felt that he missed out on things when he was young, so he went and did a year of backpacking round the world on a budget shoestring when he was older

Okay, but plenty of famous people with those issues have died young over the years. No one was surprised when Amy Winehouse died at 27. They were unbelievably sad that such an incredible talent had been lost so young, but surprised? Not at all. If anything, they were surprised she lasted that long.

Not appropriate today.

Sorry but no one really gets to dictate whether someone can give an honest opinion or not or when - these things need to be discussed not shut down. There was nothing wrong with what was said by the poster there.

Mrsdoyler · 17/10/2024 09:49

The problem with fame is it gives you access to drugs in excess.

So if you have any addictive tendencies, now you have no limit

Suddenfeelingofsadness · 17/10/2024 09:49

@cheezncrackers exactly, there are loads of famous young people we are surprised are ALIVE. Lindsay Lohan, Justin Beiber, Demi Lovato, Daniel Radcliffe

I hope who supplied the drugs is jailed.

Dealers are murderers.
