Just heard on the news abroad he fell from the third floor off a hotel in Buenos Aires, if true it's very sad as he was so young and seemed like a lovely guy

They are jumping on her...

Sorry that should have said they are jumping on her, it's disgraceful that they are

Oh, I agree. This is going to be terrible for her. 😞

HowYouSpellingThat10 · 17/10/2024 08:36

I agree it was reported too fast but people don't see the correlation between threads like this and the reason it is reported too fast.

Twenty years ago it may have been reported in Argentina but you wouldn't have known and his family wouldn't have seen it before being told.

Now it is picked up by one person, shared on the internet, threads like this start and at the beginning everyone is saying 'its not on the BBC yet'.

So then mainstream media is bounced into reporting it or miss the story.

The sharing of this stuff is what fuels the media rush half the posters on here are complaining about.

FiddlyDiddlyDee · 17/10/2024 08:37

I do find it amazing how so many posters are going into the ins and outs of why he may have taken this destructive route in life and offering much sympathy for it.

Had this been an average man a poster was describing in a thread on their partner it would have been LTB, irresponsible for taking drugs when he has kids, and all sorts of other things.

It is no wonder celebs go this route when people just give them a free pass for being hot and famous.

tuvamoodyson · 17/10/2024 08:01

I imagine it means he was dead with absolutely no way to help him….

Yes, I read it to mean that he was very much already dead when they reached him and that this was immediately obvious based on the (clearly visible) injury he had sustained. Without saying anything too graphic, i think from what has been reported that it’s safe to say it was a catastrophic head injury and I think we can probably imagine why it was immediately obvious he couldn’t be saved. Poor boy.

Not appropriate today.

Sad news and such a young man.

Shows yet again the dream of fortune and fame isn't always as desirable as it seems.

RIP and condolences to his family and friends.

Absolutely, his ex got a restraining order on him, he wasnt this nice guy people thought he was.

Amount of people on social media blaming her is bizarre and isn't helpful to women. The worst thing is it's women who are blaming her.

@rosesaredeadvioletsaretoo on the BBC this morning, a reporter in Argentina was describing the head injury in some depth. I was quite shocked that this level of detail was being discussed on the morning news.

I think people are in shock and trying to understand it and empathise with his son and family at the same time. He can be a horrible person and it be sad he died, both can be true.

People ought to be emphasizing with the woman who got a restraining order on him instead of blaming her. Stop hating on other women.

Totally agree. He clearly had a very severe drug problem, was allegedly abusive and manipulative and he chose to spend years living in LA when his young child lived in the UK. It's tragic that this is how his life turned out but let's not idolise him.

The people we should really feel sorry for is his ex-gf who is now receiving death threats, his son who never got the chance to have a healthly relationship with his dad and his family and friends who has lost someone they love.

It’s not either/or. You can empathise with both.

I’m sure she feels sadness today too. Grief is complex.

why, are you his family/friend or something?

absolutely appropriate given the fact that peoples lives have been destroyed because of his behaviour

I doubt it. Pictures are published of dead children in Gaza more or less every day, nobody seems to care about the infingement of privacy then, and those are tiny and innocent children.

I see your point, but I think there is a difference between pictures and footage being taken in a warzone (which you can argue is testimonial & serves as documentary footage with historical value, awful as it is) and images taken of an individual dying in other non-war related circumstances just for titillation and hits.

In America there was a case where Kobe Bryant an American footballer, died along with his daughter in a helicopter crash, and his widow successfully sued after first responders took and shared the graphic images of their dead bodies.

She said it caused her great emotional distress that people had passed those images around, and I imagine it will cause distress to Liam's family members also that millions of strangers have been gawking, be it non-deliberately in some cases, of their dead relatives body in such tragic circumstances.

I really hope they do sue.

How about people just stop being nasty full stop. I didn't say what they were doing is in any way justified, I said he can be a horrible person and it be sad he died. Both can be true. Jesus this site is shit at times.

But if he was just a random drug addict with an abusive past towards women would you still empathise with him?

HowYouSpellingThat10 · 17/10/2024 08:52

FeatherBoat · 17/10/2024 07:34

I remember reading an article written by Harry Styles mother where she said that he just went off to that audition one day and his family were saying

'ohh that sounds fun, what do you want for dinner and don't forget to mow auntie Susan's lawn next Wednesday afternoon'

and the next thing she knew he was gone and he never lived at home again.

Yes I think the comments about why would you allow your 16 year old to do this are unfair.

It was a massive audition. At most you are thinking they might get on the telly for 30 seconds.

And then even with the forming of a band, there have been hundreds of those over the years. Would struggle to name any if them.

No one could have imagined 1D would become so big. And so it was impossible for anyone to make an informed choice about it.

The level of fan attention they receive is mental even compared to other successful acts.

@NameChangeUser183794639 Kobe Bryant was a basketball player ! But yes, tmz shared the news an hour after it happened or something, disgusting

LunaNorth · 17/10/2024 08:58

I think if we’d seen ‘a random drug addict’ as a fresh faced 16 year old, and knew something of their back story, and had seen others like them tread a similar path, we might have compassion, yes.

Allofthelightsss · 17/10/2024 08:59

TooMuchRedMaybe · 17/10/2024 08:48

But if he was just a random drug addict with an abusive past towards women would you still empathise with him?

Yes I would, because every loss of life is sad. I work in social care and those that are “just” druggies are still someone’s son and someone’s father. Most have suffered significant trauma themselves, which is not an excuse obviously but provides some understanding.

With regards to the abuse - I feel empathy first and foremost for his victim. There is no excuse for abuse, but I don’t think death is the appropriate “punishment” for what he did, so yes of course I can empathise that a 31 year old father of a small child has died.

Combattingthemoaners · 17/10/2024 09:15

Really sad. He was clearly a troubled soul. His poor family.

Suddenfeelingofsadness · 17/10/2024 09:16

@Allofthelightsss exactly, and his unfortunate death is obviously an ACE for his young son. The cycle just repeats. People are complex. I used to work in forensics, rarely did I meet someone I didn't have empathy. They are all just damaged children growing up in a world where no one gives a shit about them. There's very little resources in terms of addiction support and MH services are stretched. Not an excuse for Liam but even if you're rich, you have to want to do the worm and be in the right place. He obviously wasn't.
