Just heard on the news abroad he fell from the third floor off a hotel in Buenos Aires, if true it's very sad as he was so young and seemed like a lovely guy

Just seen this, what a shock. 31 is no age, so young. My heart goes out to Cheryl and Bear and of course Liam's family and friends.

"It’s all just said. 31 is nothing and to think of him being shoved into it all at 16…my son is 17 and he’s a baby. Who could handle it?"

these aren't the Judy Garland years @CheerfulYank no one was plying him with uppers & downers

Really? You think child stars are no longer plied with drugs? Of course they are!!!

Scorchio84 · 17/10/2024 04:06

well I'm going out on a limb here but nobody? I'm aware of the horrendous stories about "Child Stars" but this isn't it, he wasn't groomed like JB & he, they all took a step back, in his own words said he wasn't coping

also I meant 7 not 17 with regards to my son 🙄

Christmastinsel78 · 17/10/2024 04:09

Shocking news to wake up to. My thoughts go out to his loved ones. Poor Bear is about to have his world shattered 😢

Ah surely not.. I mean Nickleodeon has a suspect rep after all the allegations of being overworked but nowadays? After "leaving neverland" & i'll mention Bieber again, WTAF parents?

Scorchio84 · 17/10/2024 04:21

Realistically though?

I was reading about him just the other day, as he's had such a rotten time lately.

He'd become a figure of fun on social media, with videos circulating comparing him to David Brent. There had just been an article in the Daily Mail basically saying when did he become such a joke? And listing all the ways people were taking the p*ss out of him recently. His ex girlfriend had come out saying he wasn't a good guy and had been weaponising his fans and basically harrassing her. He was being flamed for posting a video on social media announcing that he was going to Argentina for Niall Horan's concert, and then turning up and attention seeking - people were saying he should never have announced he was going first, and only did it for attention so that people would go to see him. And then there was the Will-Smith-Hitting-Chris-Rock-Interview saga where everyone was mocking him for being on coke.

And the papers - the rubbish ones of course, like the Daily Mail - loved it, and really jumped on the bandwagon and joined in with the mocking.

And now he's died. And I bet now, all the newspapers and influencers who have been essentially bullying him will be posting articles and videos trying to make money out of his death too.

When will people learn to treat others kindly in life and not only in death. Gosh. How sad this is.

I saw the David Brent stuff just a few days ago in The Mail and thought it was overtly cruel and nasty. I thought to myself how does anyone cope with that level of criticism - they were basically saying he was an uncool, deluded loser - a complete twat - really horrible - I felt for him having to maybe read it? Of course they’re gushing about his fantastic voice now and the ‘tragedy’ of his death. Hypocrites.

Oblomov24 · 17/10/2024 04:54

A very troubled man, addicted, abusive to ex, was in the news last week. Everyone seems shocked but I'm not really.

Ukhotelsareshit · 17/10/2024 05:42

So very sad. 31 is no age. His poor family.

ahemfem · 17/10/2024 06:18

I think it's absolutely disgusting the speed at which this was reported last night. The family should be told first I hope they were told first and his friends and anyone who actually mattered to him.

WillowTit · 17/10/2024 06:20

fame is not all its cracked up to be by the sound of things,
very sad

Has it not always been thus? Especially nowadays

Suddenfeelingofsadness · 17/10/2024 06:29

He would absolutely not be dead if he had become a plumber instead. Some famous people had awful home lives and became famous to escape that. Some have a bit of talent and unfortunately become famous as a by product. Liam Payne seems the latter. Nice kid but so unprepared for fame and then, even worse than fame, slipping into obscurity.
Let's not forget that 1D were put together because they were felt not to be strong enough solo singers. Liam was arguably the best singer of them all at the auditions. But he didn't have 'it' to become a solo star.
Then we have the semi- grooming from Cheryl, who clearly felt he would be a good father to her child, at 24, nothing to do with the 1D millions.
The saddest part is that their son is also going to be semi famous, possibly even more so now. So how do we stop history repeating? Luckily Cheryl seems to be keeping him out of the public eye, I hope she continues to be able to protect him, especially as they all grieve.
Really sad yet us in society never seem to learn.
God knows why anyone wants their child to be famous.

cattywat · 17/10/2024 06:32

Jesus Christ, just opened the news to this ! His poor son, why was it reported so fast??

Absolutely disgusting though

Allofthelightsss · 17/10/2024 06:36

This is awful. I’m so sad for his son.

vegandspice · 17/10/2024 06:41

This is terrible news to wake up to .

prospectivenhs · 17/10/2024 06:47

I woke up at about midnight and was shocked to see this as a news headline. I was glued to my phone for a good hour reading. My first thought was his poor son. Probably still asleep right now and Cheryl has probably not had a wink of sleep all night thinking how she is going to shatter his world.

I'm just watching GMB and apparently, when the 911 call was made at 5:04 local time, he was still alive as this was in reference to Liam's behaviour and by the time emergency services arrived at 5:11 he had fallen and passed away.

I read last night that the responding officer let the media know immediately that he was a "musician". How desperately sad to just release this information with no thought for his family. I fail to believe that all of his family and family will have been notified before this went to press. Someone close to him is going to find out this gut wrenching news through a news flash on their phone.

I hope his family and his dear son can find strength in the coming days.

Fizbosshoes · 17/10/2024 06:47

I was going to surmise that maybe because it happened in a public place, that the news was leaked so quickly, as opposed to a friend/family member/agent finding them in a private home. (Not that this makes it ok!) But was it the police who reported it?
Generally they give very short vague details eg a 31 year old British man has died in an accident.....more details as we get them.(presumably so family can be informed)

Zanatdy · 17/10/2024 06:57

Such a sad loss. My eldest son is 31, i am on a mini break with him in Eastern Europe. He stopped drinking 6yrs ago as he was drinking to excess and I am so glad he did. 31 is no age at all. Thoughts with young Bear and Cheryl, supporting him through this, and all of Liam’s family / friends. Such a tragedy

redtrain123 · 17/10/2024 06:58

So sad. 31 years old. Too young.

We can't know that. Plumbers can be troubled souls too. It's all about individuals and how their brains work and yes while circumstances exacerbate problems nature plays a huge part in how people cope.

I'm sorry for his family and friends but I hope this doesn't become a huge Cowell/ music industry witchhunt.

Suddenfeelingofsadness · 17/10/2024 07:09

@Gloriia yet such a high amount of famous people turn to drink and drugs and/ or develop mental health problems. So many that I actually struggle to name any child stars who haven't. As I'm sure you're aware, our brains are not fully developed until 25. So why would it be a good idea for someone to be in the spotlight from age 14 until 25? They have no normal points of reference. They have no stability, or identify even.
Whilst we do not know for sure how Liam's life may have played out should he had not become famous, if he already had those traits (impulsivity, lack of confidence, anger) then fame was probably the worst thing that could have happened to him.

I think fame (of any sort - and money) at that level, at a young age can be really difficult for an individual to deal with. Obviously there are well documented issues within the music industry - Britney Spears for example, but also a lot of young footballers struggle with mental health problems, gambling, addiction etc.

I can't find the link now (night time zombie scrolling), though I'm pretty sure it was on Sky news but I understand what you're saying as the death was clearly public. There was no vague description at all by the sounds of things, just someone casually releasing the information, with no consideration for his family.

I'm appalled that people took pictures of his body. What on earth would possess people to do this?!
