Vinted - postage warning

It looks like Vinted have turned on the post office as a postage option for sellers. You can’t switch it off though.

Well things must have changed quite recently then because it was like that for quite some time and I've bought and sold on Vinted for over a decade. Interesting.

I am a good few years in selling on Vinted myself and have never had Royal Mail set as an option for buyers. It’s always been toggled off.

I'm very new to Vinted but have sold successfully on EBay for years. I don't mind RM as my local Post Office is quite close. If the buyer selects RM
Do I set the postage cost in advance? One way to deter would be to set the postage cost very high. But how do I get reimbursed for that postage cost on vinted?

I’ve always had Royal Mail turned off. Ever since I opened my Vinted account. I’ve never used it, nor has anyone requested it.

It's interesting that you've been able to turn it off. When did you join if you don't mind sharing? For as long as I've used the platform it's been like that despite updates. Tbf RM is the most expensive choice so most, including me, will of course choose a cheaper alternative, especially when the addition of the (useless) buyer protection fee plus postage can increase the end price quite considerably. I've always stated on my postings that RM is not to be chosen but wasn't able to remove the option. The sellers I've seen and/or used, have mostly all done the same for a number of reasons and because it was the default option so couldn't be unticked.

Misunderstoodagain · 07/10/2024 09:16

Ah that's ridiculous, I've lost money twice already by people saying that they didn't receive their post through royal mail- at the beginning before I realised and turned it off.
I've over 60 listings I'm going to have edit now with don't pick royal mail 😔

ABirdsEyeView · 07/10/2024 09:17

@tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz Oops - still applies I think Grin

RubyRooRed · 07/10/2024 09:18

I’ve just added into my bio too not to choose Royal Mail or order will be cancelled.
The post office is a pain in the arse , always a long queue and restricted to 9-5 and half day sat and closed on a Sunday.
The bigger irritant though is paying upfront and the lack of tracking and waiting on buyers marking as received.
Big thumbs down for this move from Vinted!

I guess it must be account specific then who knows. I've never been able to remove the option but can with all others. Though I'll never proceed with a RM delivery we've had way too much trouble with them over the years. Can't be having that via Vinted too.

Back21970 · 07/10/2024 09:35

I sold on Ebay for years and only ever used Royal Mail, between the queuing in the Post Office, the missing parcels and the cost of tracked parcels, I gave up, was more hassle than it was worth.

I’ve so far found the other methods on Vinted to be great and would very reluctantly use RM again - suppose I will have a look at the collection facility as I am at home most days, but disappointed by this decision.

NameChangePoP · 07/10/2024 09:37

Vinted is going downhill very fast, and if they don't change things quickly - they will lose their market share to eBay.

I highly recommend NOT using RM as a postal option. Whilst you can get parcels collected, the option is not integrated with Vinted - meaning it can take up to 1 month for funds to be released if the buyer does not confirm delivery. It's also scammers paradise, and due to the lack of integration buyers can quite easily say it's not been received and there's nothing you can do about it (even with confirmation of delivery from RM).
IF a RM parcel goes missing, you as the seller have to then chase RM for compensation of said parcel which only covers up to £20 as standard (unless you pay for more).

I'm also annoyed with the passive aggressive email I got from Vinted last week about becoming a Pro Seller. I have 5 children, and I sell as many of their old clothes as I can. I use the funds to purchase more clothes and rarely withdraw funds as cash. I am not making a profit as the clothes are being sold for less than I originally paid. According to Vinted this could be classed as commercial selling and they encourage me to upgrade my account to a Pro account (which means registering as a business) or I may be banned.......

MrsMagoooo · 07/10/2024 09:56

Mine is on. I've just added this to the feedback under settings:

Please remove the postage option for Royal Mail being mandatory. I’m in a rural location and this doesn’t work for me, my most local post office only opens part time. Also, I don’t like relying on the buyer to inform me in a timely manner that the item has arrived.

I need to be able to turn this option off.

You need to add it onto item descriptions. I’ve never look at a seller bio before buying an item. I can see how many stars a seller has on the item page and I don’t look any further into the seller before buying.

YorkshireIndie · 07/10/2024 10:11

Damm and I had just turned it off. If it is any help it is cheaper to buy the postage online directly from Royal Mail and they will collect the parcel with the label

Ariela · 07/10/2024 10:14

I'm thinking surely you can buy postage online with tracking and get collection too - keep getting RM adverts about collection.

Yeah but the tracking isn’t integrated with Vinted.
You could pay for the tracked delivery and it shows as delivered when you look up the Royal Mail website but you still have to wait til the buyer says they have it.
Its really annoying and people take the Mickey.

tumtam · 07/10/2024 10:30

Can you not use click & drop?
I don't sell on vinted but I use Royal Mail click & drop all the time for sending documents, cards, presents etc.
You can request the postie prints the label and they collect the next day from your home.
I usually just stick the letter/parcel on my doorstep so I don't get disturbed (WFH) with the name of the recipient written on the outside. I use a tracked service for most things.
Touch wood it works perfectly so far

BatshitCrazyWoman · 07/10/2024 10:37

As as buyer, I much prefer Royal Mail. Yodel, for example, takes about 9 or 10 days to get to me, Royal Mail is much quicker. I do understand the tracking thing for sellers, though.

OnlyMurdersInTheBuilding · 07/10/2024 10:44

Royal Mail will do free collections from your house. Don't even have to be there if you have a safe place that you can leave it.

StudioCreate · 07/10/2024 11:09

I've just updated the app and the option is back to turn it off (it was preselected).

pantomanto · 07/10/2024 11:10

It’s not the point of RM having a collection service, you need to pay for the postage upfront and then wait. The item is also not tracked through the vinted app. Yes you can see something has been delivered but then it’s on the buyer to be honest. If it’s tracked through the app you’ve got time scales to meet. The app can’t do that with RM.

Woohoo , I am now able to switch Royal Mail off again !

Hohofortherobbers · 07/10/2024 11:26

Yes me too, I wonder what that was about then? A glitch? Or a u turn ?

I had sent them feedback this morning maybe as lots of us had done that they have listened . very pleased anyway 😀

ABirdsEyeView · 07/10/2024 11:34

Have also just disabled mine again, which is good. Fair play to Vinted for listening to customers

TheFormidableMrsC · 07/10/2024 11:59

Having seen another thread, I've just checked my settings and I can now turn RM off.

Juicymango · 07/10/2024 12:10

I've complained to Vinted about it as I only like using lockers, maybe if we all complain they'll reconsider?
