Vinted - postage warning

It looks like Vinted have turned on the post office as a postage option for sellers. You can’t switch it off though.

I'm also refusing to send with RM, I've put in my bio not to use it.
I have no problems with RM, it's great for eBay and in general, but not for vinted. I've read all the horror stories on the fb groups. I'm not ok with it being classed as an external service. Vinted don't accept the tracking number because of this. I'm also not ok with paying for the postage initially myself and with the possibility of waiting weeks to get my money. Your protected more with yodel & evri with vinted.
I'm going to cancel sales and ask buyers to re purchase using another postage service if buyers don't choose the other postage options.

My nearest post office is a 14 mile round trip and the opposite way to work. I am fortunate that Evri and inpost is next to work so that’s my option. As another poster said you can’t track Royal Mail plus as a seller you need to pay for postage upfront whereas the other options are paid for by the buyer in advance.

I have gone on holiday mode.

I’ve got the same issue with inpost and Evri, it’s a 24 mile round trip. I do it but only post once a week which I put on my listings.

SoberSchmober · 07/10/2024 07:58

Thanks for the warning! Won't be selling on Vinted again in that case.

orangegato · 07/10/2024 07:58

Wonder how much RM have paid them for this fuckery?

Peachbubble · 07/10/2024 08:00

The big issue I've found with the two buyers who've chosen this option, is I had to ask them more than once for them to confirm receipt and then twice more to get them to click on 'mark as received', as obviously this isn't an automatic update - I don't think buyers realise this either.

I've updated all my listings and my profile saying not to choose this option as it's not tracked.

I’m new to vinted and so far I’ve only bought items. I can’t understand why buyers get to choose the delivery method - with eBay the listing tells you how it will be sent and you either buy or don’t buy. I can understand a choice between delivery or collection, but I why the choice between delivery companies for the buyer? It puts me off selling.

Postage seems expensive for small items. I bought a bundle of two small items - no larger than letter size - but was charged £2.50 postage per item even though they were sent together and p&p was nowhere near £5.

Edited

If you'd requested to buy a bundle, you wouldn't have been charged two lots of postage.

msmatcha · 07/10/2024 08:25

Holiday mode switched on here. Thanks for the heads up OP.

Teachymummy · 07/10/2024 08:34

You can get royal mail to collect parcels for free from your house and if you buy postage online it's slightly cheaper than in the shop. I never go to the post office now I just use the home collection

pantomanto · 07/10/2024 08:41

VanillaVein · 07/10/2024 07:32

This isn't anything new. It's been like that for years. Royal Mail was always the default which could never be turned off. Sellers would just write in their text box that buyers choose alternative delivery if RM was an issue for the seller.

I’ve always had Royal Mail turned off. Ever since I opened my Vinted account. I’ve never used it, nor has anyone requested it.

That’s ok if you’re home.

I'm thinking about adding a note to the description of my items saying "please do not select Post Office"

This is exactly what I am going to do.

MumOf3LittleOnez · 07/10/2024 08:45

I messaged support and asked for it to be turned off but was told due to my location it cannot be disabled and they suggested mentioning on my page and listing's for buyers not to select royal mail. Will will reveive automatic negative feedback if a buyer doesn't read that and selects it anyway and we cancel. Either way I'm staying on holiday mode for a bit!

Keenoonvino · 07/10/2024 08:46

I’ve sold over 400 things on vinted, have always had Evri, yodel and Royal Mail as options just because I think it gives buyers more choice (it puts me off for example if a seller will only use Royal Mail). I’ve only had 3 buyers in all that time choose royal
mail. It’s more expensive so I don’t think many buyers will choose this will they?

PuppyMonkey · 07/10/2024 08:47

Bought something yesterday on Vinted and the only option that came up for me was Evri, there was no option to select Royal Mail?

blackteaplease · 07/10/2024 08:48

You can track royal mail now, its 20p extra.

Which the seller needs to cough up and pay in advance.

I've just filled in a feedback form. Took seconds to do. I suggest everybody does the same. Might make a difference 🤷🏻‍♀️

bestbefore · 07/10/2024 08:52

I think it's unfair and wrong to but for RM you can buy postage online and get them to collect from you, even bring a label. I know you possibly have to be in for this but it might work for some people?
It's very annoying though as I don't want to pay for the postage and then rely on the buyers reporting it's been received to get the money, plus the cost of postage varies so much on rm due to loads of options!

VanillaVein · 07/10/2024 08:59

since1986 · 07/10/2024 07:42

It's never been a set choice for delivery for me when people buy from me so not quite sure where you've got that from.

Well things must have changed quite recently then because it was like that for quite some time and I've bought and sold on Vinted for over a decade. Interesting.

TheEnglishSystemSucks · 07/10/2024 09:01

agh!! Wondered why my last 2 orders had me schlepping to the post-office. I've just deleted my remaining items now - charity shop can have them. Bye Bye vinted (for selling at least).

I’ve been on there for two years and it’s never been a set choice for me. I have always had it switched off because it’s an absolute pain in the arse with lack of tracking and the scams.

We’re lucky that we wfh so the collection service is usually convenient (would probably leave it in our safe place if we were out but we trust our postie and have cameras anyway) but I’m another who’s really pissed off about this. People can’t be relied on to push the Received and All Ok buttons within two days, let alone a bloody month, and I’m not waiting around that long. And then there’s the scammers.

Will have to go through and add notes to my bio and listings. Thanks for the heads up, OP.

I had exactly the same thing happen to me two weeks ago. Blurred photo of a Royal Mail postage receipt uploaded within two minutes of purchase. Locking myself because looking back it was obviously dodgy, the seller had zero reviews and the price was too good.

The seller is now showing as "member blocked", whatever that means.

Seems crazy I have to wait so long to get e refund, and I'm paranoid that I'll somehow miss the window and it will be automatically marked as received? At what point can I claim, and how?

Just go to help via 3 dots in corner I think click that order and explain its a dodgy seller who has been blocked 🚫 ask for a refund and they process refund almost straight away, worked for me when I was also caught out.

Exactly this. Fine, royal mail have bought their way in, but why not make it integrated just like the other options? Far too much of a risk for the sellers otherwise.

eBay has less traffic but the buyers who show interest are far more likely to buy IME and far less likely to give ridiculously low offers.

I was mostly using vinted because the app is so simple and easy for uploading stuff.

ABirdsEyeView · 07/10/2024 09:11

I've just edited my listings to inform buyers I won't be able to send via RM. Have also put this in my bio and sent feedback to Vinted saying it's unreasonable to not allow users to disable this option.
As I buyer I would not select it - I can see lots of buyers wanting it but lots of sellers rejecting it. And that will ultimately cause issues for Vinted. The upside of this platform was in not having to pay to post upfront and in knowing that Vinted was responsible for tracking and paying quickly once an item is delivered.
Shit themselves in the foot with this one, I think!
