Vinted - postage warning

It looks like Vinted have turned on the post office as a postage option for sellers. You can’t switch it off though.

Just checked, can't turn it off. Annoying. Thanks for the heads up, might have to go back to eBay.

Autumn1990 · 06/10/2024 22:14

If the option is Royal Mail rather than post office you can buy the postage online with full tracking for the same cost as without tracking at the post office and the postman will bring a printed label and collect the parcel.
I do prefer the other options for posting though

ThatbloodyRoblox · 06/10/2024 22:17

I wonder if it may be due to price variations with postcodes. RM has flat price but some couriers such as evri charge a location charge.

Numsmetposter · 06/10/2024 22:22

Thanks for the headsup. You're right can't switch it off. What a faff I'm not paying for that up front. I got an email from ebay saying no fees anymore.

wavyleaf · 06/10/2024 22:36

I’m new to vinted and so far I’ve only bought items. I can’t understand why buyers get to choose the delivery method - with eBay the listing tells you how it will be sent and you either buy or don’t buy. I can understand a choice between delivery or collection, but I why the choice between delivery companies for the buyer? It puts me off selling.

Postage seems expensive for small items. I bought a bundle of two small items - no larger than letter size - but was charged £2.50 postage per item even though they were sent together and p&p was nowhere near £5.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 06/10/2024 22:41

Shit that's ridiculous and bad that it can't be turned off?

I've also gone into Holiday Mode and will spend tomorrow pm stating on every listing that I can't use RM and will cancel any orders that choose it.

bridgetjonesmassivepants · 06/10/2024 22:56

As a previous poster said you can just enter the tracking number given from Royal Mail on their website and you can book a collection from your house for free.

Maybe not a solution for everyone but I find it works well.

But this only works if there's someone at home to hand over the parcel. I leave or work before the post office opens and get back after it closes and it only opens for 3 hours on a Saturday. With Yodel & Evri I can pop to the corner shop which is open 7am-11pm!

Peachbubble · 07/10/2024 06:40

This option has made me question staying on Vinted too. I've just had two buyers choosing it, meaning I've had to go twice to the PO on a day/time it's actually open, queue, pay for postage and then just wait and wait with no info as to where the parcels are.
For both buyers I've had to ask more than once whether they've received the parcel, then another two times to get them to mark the item as received so I can get my payment. Otherwise, Vinted states I have to wait about a month for the money to be released!

Autumn1990 · 07/10/2024 07:01

The parcel can be left in a safe place for the postie. Which can be chosen from a list or there’s space to put one in, dropped off at a parcel post box or a sorting office. For the last two you have to print your own label.

MyUmberSeal · 07/10/2024 07:05

I’ve started putting that I will cancel the sale if the post office delivery option is chosen. It’s annoying.

ParadiseLaundry · 07/10/2024 07:07

Thanks for the heads up, Op.

I agree it's absolutely ridiculous and Royal Mail have obviously bought their way in. Vinted just don't seem to give a shit any more.

Not only is it awful because of the money up front and lack of reliable tracking, it's also the option most vulnerable to fraud.

Andtheworldwentwhite · 07/10/2024 07:11

I’m going to put mine on holiday mode as well. Not doing post office as there isn’t one near me. As others have said not selling fees on eBay now. So will switch to that.

polkadotpixie · 07/10/2024 07:14

I've just added a note to all my listings and my bio to say no Royal Mail and I'll have to cancel any orders that select it

Mxflamingnoravera · 07/10/2024 07:14

I've just filled in Vinted's feedback form saying I'll go back to eBay if they don't let me turn it off.

QueenofFox · 07/10/2024 07:17

I love vinted, so easy to use but this is so annoying. I've sent them feedback about it under the feedback form listed on my profile - maybe if enough do it, they will listen?

coronafiona · 07/10/2024 07:17

I hate my post office. Slow Inconvenient and annoying I only use the lockers for vinted. I've emailed them saying I can't do RM. If enough of us do that maybe they'll reconsider...

Startnew23 · 07/10/2024 07:21

It’s also the chosen method for scammers, as I found out yesterday. Purchased a bag at 5.545am got the Royal Mail postage receipt at 5.46am! Now unless yes a bloody super hero and has the ability to get Royal Mail to open up on a Sunday then it’s pretty obvious I ain’t getting a bag and need to wait over a month now to get my money back!! I messaged him to tell him I knew it was a scam and the message was seen but looks like I’m gonna have to wait it out!! Fuming and I think I may also switch back to eBay.

VanillaVein · 07/10/2024 07:32

This isn't anything new. It's been like that for years. Royal Mail was always the default which could never be turned off. Sellers would just write in their text box that buyers choose alternative delivery if RM was an issue for the seller.

Vinorosso74 · 07/10/2024 07:35

That is annoying. I had no idea.
We have a post office about a 2 minute walk away but the staff are so rude!
Useful to know it's the scammers choice.

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 07/10/2024 07:40

Also - thanks OP for heads up as I absolutely would have missed this x

since1986 · 07/10/2024 07:41

Just put "orders requesting Royal Mail delivery will be cancelled and relisted" at the top of your listings. And then follow through if anyone chooses them.

It's never been a set choice for delivery for me when people buy from me so not quite sure where you've got that from.

I had exactly the same thing happen to me two weeks ago. Blurred photo of a Royal Mail postage receipt uploaded within two minutes of purchase. Locking myself because looking back it was obviously dodgy, the seller had zero reviews and the price was too good.

The seller is now showing as "member blocked", whatever that means.

Seems crazy I have to wait so long to get e refund, and I'm paranoid that I'll somehow miss the window and it will be automatically marked as received? At what point can I claim, and how?

tellmewhenthespaceshiplandscoz · 07/10/2024 07:46

Also fed back and now going through. S L O W process of passing a note to every listing and my bio to say I'll cancel RM listings ... pain in the arse
