Badenoch was trying to make the case against regulation.

Her go-to regulation to attack was maternity rights.

Of all the regulation/legislation we have (and I am sure there is unnecessary legislation out there) she selected maternity as excessive and unfair.

Honestly my mind boggles that she ever thought this was a good answer to that question.

I wonder if this suggests that she has a very narrow sphere of applied knowledge, despite having been business secretary.

Labour have asked the Electoral Commission for an investigation into Jenrick's 75,000 donation

"I wonder if this suggests that she has a very narrow sphere of applied knowledge, despite having been business secretary."

Yes, I suspect that is probably close to the truth.
May also reflect the kind of right wing think tanks she's been spending time with.

Half a story here but didn’t she hack another MPs computer ? I’m thinking Yvette Cooper ?

Perhaps I was wrong using the words 'slightly aggressive'. I suppose what it is... I cannot find any warmth in her. I never see anything likeable.

Same here, she strikes me as someone who has/does have a great amount of advantages in life & cannot understand why some may need support from the state she begrudges benefits & that many are just feckless & undeserving I see no sign of her wanting to help make anyones life better Yy the narrow & elite circles probably explains a lot, she reminds me of the child who would never share sweets or toys & always grabbed the biggest slice of cake.

newnamethanks · 30/09/2024 09:10

"Unpleasant"? Yes, of course, that's the plan although we should all be aware that our 'unpleasant' is KBs 'plain speaking'. "I didn't say what you heard me say, SM is misrepresenting me"🙄

Agreed. Aren’t a lot of Tory MPs like that going off stuff they’ve said and their
actions over the years ? She’s consistent if anything though as she mooted means testing WFA didn’t she ? Obviously drawing back on that now !

But she isn't "plain speaking" is she. Not if she has to "clarify" her remarks every time they don't get the reaction she wants.

If you want to be plain speaking, you need the brains to do it.

newnamethanks · 30/09/2024 09:22

Thanks, Jane. It isn't me that requires clarification on this point.

Well Kemi clearly worried some of her acolytes might misconstrue her plain words. Enough to mangle the meaning out of them.

Kemi Badenoch says that illegal migration problems are not caused by the ECHR, but by Home Office civil servants who 'don't want to' deport migrants "There are countries who are in the ECHR who are deporting 70% while we are deporting 10%."

I think there are some things you need to know about the policies of the previous government you were a cabinet minister in, Kemi.

Conservative fringe meeting on immigration discussing how to persuade women to "breed for Britain" in order to "grow more" social care workers, one day after Kemi Badenoch's comments about "excessive" maternity pay.

WTAF. Also I’m not sure they understand biology. We need care workers now. Even if we bring back child labour that policy is going to take a few years + 9 months to work.

Overheard at Tory conference: “Have you noticed it’s all men?”

Generous guesstimate would say 90% plus male attendees…

Maybe this explains Badenoch's comments (although I'd assume some of them must have families).

In part maybe. Mainly because I imagine he’s a shit teacher. That’s what the word is…and his performances in the HoC tend to back it up.

More from that meeting

After Kemi Badenoch's comments about certain cultures being "less valid" than others, one Conservative member tells a fringe meeting at their party conference that there should now be a ban on immigrants from Pakistan because of "the problems they cause".
