Thank you Duncin. That’s why my stepdaughter is no longer an ITU nurse. It’s heartbreaking.

@cardibach that’s so sad, I had a tiny Pomeranian who had lots of problems he was born with, they will always have a special place in our hearts ♥️

I also have a tiny one - he is a wobbly cat and half the size of his brother, all loose skin despite eating like a horse. He is very stupid and we love him.

Thanks for all the kind words about my little Bengal. This is Cordelia, most beautiful cat in the world. She was a rescue and the defect was likely due to overbreeding.

Can I join the thread emergency ward? After battling the system from pillar to post all day yesterday and this morning, I’ve finally seen someone who confirmed my suspicion that I have shingles 😢 Heavy antiviral treatment for a week.
DD and her partner bought in 2019 with money my dad left her. They have now split up. Last week they sold the house and DD has had an offer accepted on a little terraced cottage. It’s little and not in a beautiful situation and needs TLC but she’s on her independent ladder. She’ll make it lovely, she has a great eye.

H no cardi hope you're feeling better soon. I had shingles last year and my back was so painful I couldn't even sit back in my chair 24 hours after starting antivirals I felt very much improved. Took longer for the spots to clear up though!

cardibach · 26/09/2024 15:46

Oh bless him @Evenstar
They have so much character, Pomeranians.
I volunteer walking dogs at the local dogs’ home now (when I don’t have shingles…) and I have a British Long Hair called Perdita that I adopted at the same time as Cordy. She’s a very damaged little individual, but loving in her own way.

Excellent. Mine’s on my face, right by my eye so needs close watching. Hopefully the drugs will work…

Evenstar · 26/09/2024 15:49

@cardibach if you are having a lot of itching I can recommend the Poxclin mousse that they sell for children with chickenpox, if you keep it in the fridge it’s really soothing. It was a total lifesaver when I had shingles

itsgettingweird · 26/09/2024 15:51

Oh no cardi that doesn't sound pleasant.

I have my eye appointment tomorrow morning after seeing an optician due to the pains in my eye because I couldn't get GP apt. I was diagnosed by 111 and then GP with cluster headaches and optician said I have narrow angles (prob not causing this problem) and dry patch on my R eye so see a glaucoma specialist in the morning. GP then asked to see me f2f about cluster headaches and has referred to neurology as is normal for new ones and probably thinks they'll want to do an MRI to rule anything out.

Then told me the waiting list is about a year.

Let's hope it isn't anything serious causing them then as I think by then it'll be too late to worry 🫣😂

PickAChew · 26/09/2024 15:55

Oh gosh, that's shockingly slow for an urgent referral, @itsgettingweird

CassieMaddox · 26/09/2024 16:01

BIossomtoes · 26/09/2024 12:02

That made me laugh.

I hope everyone who’s under the weather feels better soon. I think I’m staying here for a bit, the anti government threads are beginning to do my head in. I think I can empathise with Clav a bit now! 😂

I like clav, she's always cheerful and I've found the input and opinions that come directly from her interesting.

Evenstar · 26/09/2024 16:04

Hope all goes well @itsgettingweird referral times are terrible, I had to wait two months for a 2 week wait urgent referral for a breast lump a couple of years ago, it turned out not to be anything to worry about in the end. The NHS is in a shocking state due to the Tory governments of the last 14 years.

I was very conscious for those two months of a friend who was fortunate enough to be able to go private and was diagnosed with breast cancer, it was very aggressive and the extra wait might have been critical for her.

I have been under a clinic for several years with possible glaucoma, but they seem to have decided it’s nothing to worry about, so hopefully it may be just be a case of regular check ups for you.

I don't think it's urgent. That's what made me 🤔 if they want to check there's no underlying cause surely if there is it won't be anything "good"! So seems daft to me to wait a year to rule anything out and then start the cure treatment. Makes more sense to me to have urgent MRI and then only need neuro apt if there's something wrong. At this rate it'll be a neuro apt. Then mri scan and then another neuro apt for results. No wonder waiting lists are so long as it seems just unnecessary for a neuro to decide to follow nice guidelines when surely a GP should be able to? Took me 2 months to see a GP face to face about them 🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️

BIossomtoes · 26/09/2024 16:37

Hope you get an appointment soon @itsgettingweird. It seems mad that you can’t go straight to MRI. I guess this sort of thing is what reforming the NHS will eliminate.

Notonthestairs · 26/09/2024 16:51

What a horrible worry itsgettingweird.

The NHS capital spend budget hasnt been protected and whilst numbers have improved a little since 2020 we still don't have enough scanners (and/or radiologists). What we do have can be quite old and breakdown to a point it impacts on work. It is a false economy.

from Royal College of Radiologists evidence to Parliament (but worth reading its bullet points in full) -

Figures from the OECD in 2021 did find that the UK as a whole has fewer scanners than the
majority of comparable OECD countries at 8.8 CT scanners per million population compared
to an OECD average of 25.9 and 7.4 MRI scanners per million population compared to an
OECD average of 16.9.

And the way their usage is rationed is by only allowing consultants to refer for MRI scans not GPs - hence @itsgettingweird needing to have the neuro appt first

Really hope this is the case, so many improvements could be made by relatively small adjustments, hope the optician appointment goes well @itsgettingweird

You’re absolute right. After ignoring chest pains - “it’s only indigestion, nothing to see here” - for two years my family made me book a GP appointment. After a referral to cardiology I had three appointments in two hospitals over a period of about four months for tests that showed my heart to be in pretty good nick for someone my age. Why the tests couldn’t all be done in one appointment is beyond me.

Home Office forced to release critical report on origins of Windrush scandal

Government had objected to report’s publication as it may ‘damage trust of affected communities’

Could someone take the same approach and get the Russian interference report published as well?
