Got my flu vaccination in early Nov too! Am feeling a tired at the mo, the weather's really not helping, feel like we need a canoe to leave the house.
Fireplace coming out next week, so I need to empty the living room. I merrily thought October was ages away, turns out it isn't.
Hope everyone's ok.

Aria999 · 01/10/2024 18:00

Happy October everyone! (Yikes, where did September go?!)

Ah yes, laundry. Thanks for the reminder @Peridot1 must do some today.

This morning I have done some of my volunteer treasurer work and just doing our household accounts for September.

Also hoping to vacuum DD's room.

Main project is still the cellar but I am a bit stalled.

How's the job going @WinterLobelia ?

Mumtobabyhavoc · 01/10/2024 22:51

I booked a couple Christmas events for the dc last night. Where did September go indeed!!!! 🙀🙀🙀

Hope DH got back @SingleThreadJoiner!

@RunningKatie - snap! Ours is coming out on Monday. It’s going to be a big noisy dirty job so I’m not looking forward to it. But I am looking forward to the finished room.

I need to book my flu jab too - thanks for the reminder.

New cupboard was built in the utility room yesterday so this afternoon DH and I are doing a big sort out in the room. It’s a tall narrow cupboard and is designed to just hold all our big appliances - food processor plus tools, food mixer, InstantPot etc. Looking forward to a tidy utility room where I can actually see the work tops!

This morning I made some soup using courgettes and cherry tomatoes and a chilli from the garden. Threw all the veg plus a red onion into the Actifry, blended it all in a pan with some stock and added a tin of lentils. Quick and easy and inspired by something I saw on Facebook with someone doing veg in an air fryer to make soup.

Hello everyone. ☺️ Today day was busy. Drove across town for Havoc's gymnastics, fielded a banking call as i was walking out the door; cooked lunch; calked Apple for help; online banking and then a call to insurance beoker to renew a policy; sorted mail; out the door for in-person banking; Costco shop (grabbed bbq chook); home & dinner; baths; vacuum area rug and washed bathroom floor; cleaned sink and toilet. It really wasn't a lot, but little things that took time and had piled up and are difficult to manage with two little ones.
I hope those who who have been ill are feeling better. Sorry for no individual tags. A bit worn out, but thinking about everyone. 🩷

Morning! Another flit here, and also astonished at how fast September flew by.
My today project is to finally clear the top of a chest of drawers.
Aldo looking at a basket of clothes that haven't been put away so that will be done too.

RunningKatie · 03/10/2024 07:31

Our spider hoover has arrived and it's a joy. The dc were on a mission last night and freed so many spiders. They had a great time.
I've moved 3 things out of the living room, really need to up my work rate or it'll never be done.
Today I need to collect a prescription, hang out washing - it's going to be dry but cold, ring the fireplace shop, ring the plasterer and empty the living room further.
Also need to fit in a full days work!

WinterFrog · 03/10/2024 10:32

There was an enormous spider on the spare bed yesterday. It took off down beside the bed which is against the wall. I then found a slightly battered, equally huge spider in the folds of the duvet when i went to replace the cover about 5 mins later. This one, I put outside, but I'm fretting about where there was one ( did I mention massive?) spider or two....
Theres stuff under the bed which I guess i need to get out so I can check to see if it's safe to use the bed ( I decamp there if I can't sleep)

I don't mind spiders when I'm awake, and I know where they are!

Peridot1 · 03/10/2024 15:56

It’s definitely spider season isn’t it?

Glad the spider vacuum is a success @RunningKatie! Mine has been put to good use recently.

We didn’t achieve the big utility room sort out I planned yesterday but the new cupboard is full of all of our large appliances so the surfaces look a bit clearer. I’ve been chipping away at some other bits too.

Just did some admin bits of taxi bookings, found my passport to apply for my ESTA for US trip next month, tried on dresses and a pair of boots that were delivered. Ordered next size in one dress and a different pair of boots as the original ones are two high. Can’t do heels anymore. But now have an outfit planned for DS’s graduation.

Need to open some lights that got delivered today as the driver dropped one as it took it out of the van. Also need to order a handle for the cupboard in the utility.

And I’m sure there is more!

WinterFrog · 03/10/2024 16:41

All sounds very exciting @Peridot1 Your lad has done so well!
I've been very busy today rushing hither and thither, and responding to various communications as well. Ground to a halt now, but promised to do some food prep for DH who's head chef tonight. In a minute...
I'm the only person I know who hasn't been away this year (well DH too) Must rectify that for next year. We've done some days out though, so it's not all work and no play.
I am doing some volunteering tomorrow, which ticks boxes for my mental well being, and meeting a friend for a walk. Hoping DH makes plenty tonight so we can have leftovers tomorrow.

Hope our @petalpower is ok!
👋 to everyone else xx

Hello everyone. Nearly the weekend 💃 Hope you all have grand plans!
I'm just doing a reset this afternoon, as we have littlest coming over tomorrow and we need to be prepared! Had a lovely morning being outside in the sunshine, so all chilled and ready for the little whirlwind.

No sign of an enormous spider so I'm hoping there was only the one, just hell bent on hanging out in my washing pile.

I need to make a curry, as DH's dinner won't stretch to tonight.

Best wishes to one and all 💕

Aria999 · 04/10/2024 14:02

I'm surprised the spiders survived the vacuum @RunningKatie! I was assuming it would kill them. I hate to hurt a spider maybe that's why the cellar is spider HQ though I do occasionally chuck buckets of water down the cellar steps to the outdoor hatch so as to clear the webs out, which they probably don't love.

Congrats on the utility cupboard @Peridot1 ours has made a huge difference!

Yesterday's project was to defrost the freezer which had started leaking water. Apparently you are not meant to use a one to chip the ice off... our hairdryer refused to work and DS refused to come out with me to get a new one. After I defrosted the freezer it started making a dreadful noise.

In the end I ended up getting a technician in very late and running to the shop to buy a hairdryer for him to use at 8.40pm. Thank goodness for US opening times! All good this morning though I am feeling mildly traumatized and am now the proud owner of quite an expensive pink ceramic hairdryer 😁

FourSeasonsLobelia · 04/10/2024 14:24

Hi everyone! So sorry for falling off the thread. my computer collapsed last week and ihad all my settings saved in it. DH has tried to fix it but has admitted defeat and so I am now on the DCs ipad and registered with again. With a sparkly new username. I have missed you all so will go back and read what I have missed. but hope everyone and all your precious people are well. xx

FourSeasonsLobelia · 04/10/2024 14:35

Hi again. Definitely spider season here as well. This morning we found the de-bodied legs of an enormous one that had been dealt with by the cat. Shudder.

Hope you mum is okay @Mumtobabyhavoc . Hope everyone is well.

All fine here but work has been busy. My daily projects have slid a bit but today i hope to do a load of ironing to get ahead a bit.

Thanks to all!

Peridot1 · 04/10/2024 14:58

@Aria999 - the spider vacuums definitely don’t kill them. They are very gentle and designed not to kill. The idea is you take the spider outside and shake it out of the vacuum. Of course then what the spider does is find all of its mates and come back inside for a big party! But it makes me feel better that I’m getting rid of them humanely.

Aria999 · 04/10/2024 15:20

Oh no @FourSeasonsLobelia sorry to hear about the computer! At least you managed to select a year round username 😁

SingleThreadJoiner · 04/10/2024 16:02

Happy Friday all, I can't say I am enjoying all this chat about spiders 🕷🕷I find myself looking nervously over my shoulder all the time!
Husband finally came home on Wednesday morning and it was lovely to have him back, though he's off again on Sunday for a few days of looking after his parents. Mildly stressful but can't complain....
Been a bit of a funny week here, feeling a bit blah, not much accomplished. Hoping the weekend restores some balance.

Ah thank you @WinterFrog . Very tricky times here with the oldies so just keeping my head above water. Still reading this thread every day but am not accomplishing much.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 05/10/2024 17:00

Hang in there, Petal. It's tough when roles reverse, I know. 💐

Hugs @petalpower. It’s not easy being pulled in different directions and trying to keep everything going. Hope you get some time to rest and relax a bit.

SpiritOfEdna · 07/10/2024 12:23

Morning

I've got the top oven in bits and all the cleaning products ready - it was on my list the other day but no oven cleaner (the glamour)😃

  • need to walk SpiritDoggo
  • get big boxes to send off shoes and coat for cleaning/repair
  • find a way of working out the demensions for a hob replacement (am sure that was on a previous list way back). Its the gap it fits into I need the dimensions of
  • got some sewing/ironing to do.
That's all for now, another 'big' presentation to work on for work this week, which is proving to be time consuming, have a good day all, SoE
Peridot1 · 07/10/2024 14:01

Operation Living Room has started here today. So yesterday was a blitz on taking out as much as we could. Then we finished this morning. It seems to be coming on quite quickly so far.

DS has gone off on his induction course for his new job until Friday.

And I appear to have started a deep clean of the kitchen. Started with the cooker and the extractor fan and the tea/coffee cupboard beside the cooker which can shut and would stay clean but DH prefers it open. So I’ve emptied it out and cleaned the shelves and washed all the things that were in it. Cooker racks are in the dishwasher to DH’s consternation. The oven cleaning lady we had last year said it was ok but he’s not convinced! Fingers crossed they will be ok or I’ll never hear the end if it!

I won’t be cleaning the oven @SpiritOfEdna - but I will book to have it done.

Also need to book to have the living room sofas cleaned. They will get replaced but not until well into next year. But looking at them in the living room this morning and moving the cushions showed just how grubby they are.

More kitchen cleaning this afternoon. Lights over the island unit. Book case in the unit. Window sills plus things on them.

WinterFrog · 07/10/2024 14:07

💐 @petalpower

Lots of projecting going on! Impressed 😊

I've been non stop since Thursday, and now it's Monday lunchtime and suddenly have a free afternoon.

So, yet another Monday 'reset' for me, I think. And a cup of coffee and a list about the rest of the week .
