Some recent bits in no particular order:

  • got rid of a giant marble run via Olio which had been taking up space in its box on top of the TV unit
  • Ironed on school logo badges to a couple of new jumpers
  • Went through the mass of coats (MiL is very generous and is always buying or passing on new ones), thinned them out and now have a much tidier coat rack and a black bin liner of coats to donate
  • Took down the Christmas tree and actually took it to the dump the next day, which is very off-brand for us as we tend to leave it on the balcony for ages for that white-trash aesthetic
  • Also took a bunch of other bits to the dump as it's closing in a couple of weeks for the rest of the year 😬
  • Booked holiday for October - only the third time we have gone abroad as a family so still quite a novelty!
Mumtobabyhavoc · 23/01/2025 16:31

Nice you've got the place nearby for your parents, Single. They're emigrating, yes? It sounds like it eill be very busy!
Hello, Sydney. ☺️ I 'm still seeing Christmas trees up, yard decos, etc here in Vancouver. I took my tree down, no decos inside as my dc are too small and they get into too much as it is, but still have a string of coloured lights and a string of white lights on the deck. DC love it, so those will stay for now. ☺️

I took some things off the top of the fridge yesterday that were overdue for proper homes: remaining Halloween candy went in the "candy canister," an extension cord went into Christmas decos box, toys went into toy box and a package of pens got tucked into a closet. Just need to wipe it clean now.

Morning all 👋
I just typed a post and lost it. Annoying as more recently I've been able to scroll back without losing unsaved writing.

Thanks for the well wishes. Feeling better, but for tinnitus and fatigue with blocked sinuses. But I have stopped sneezing, which is a win!
I have some work to do today, but otherwise it's just a question of setting things straight. If energy levels improve I might be tempted to change bed sheets.

Have a good day all ☕ 🍪

Peridot1 · 24/01/2025 09:53

Glad you are feeling better @WinterFrog.

Im not sure where the last couple of days went. Was sure today was Thursday!

I have been pottering with jobs. Did a bit more washing kitchen cupboards yesterday but still have about half left to do plus lights over island unit. I did get rid of old Christmas lights and sorted a box of random Christmas battery lights and extension cords into one box to go into attic this weekend. Also cleared out a basket which I will repurpose for magazines I think. Although I want to get rid of magazines ….

Today:

  • change a bed and wash bedding
  • trip into town to post office, Boots to pick up medication and an order and get rid of old meds, batteries to recycle and water filter, bag of clothes to clothes recycling
  • Passport photo for International Driving Permit
  • make brown bread

@petalpower - hope smear was ok. Well done for doing it.

Have a great day all.

Aria999 · 24/01/2025 23:34

Hello all! Glad you have stopped sneezing @WinterFrog and that things seem positive @FourSeasonsLobelia

I have had a hectic few days and was feeling wiped today but work has receded again so I managed to potter about a bit.

One of the house plants has dramatically died more or less overnight. It was fine then it was a brown mushy blob. I suspect the cold may be to blame. I have removed the ick bits and there are a couple of feeble shoots left but I am not hopeful.

DH introduced me to an app called Toggl track which records how much time you spend on activities. It's quite motivating!

Today:
Dealt with dying plant to the best of my ability
Folded 1 basket laundry
Changed sheets and towels
Filled out DD new passport application
Opened enormous pile of stuff from Amazon in the porch
Tidied our bedroom
Deployed robot vacuums to 3 rooms
Took DS to his psychiatrist appointment

Mumtobabyhavoc · 25/01/2025 03:46

Hope you are well on the up Froggy. Tinnitus is very annoying, though.
Aria, I had a cactus perish from cold. It had mushy bulges and was, sadly, beyond revival.
Peridot, sounds like good progress. Take a win. 😃

Just managed to clean the bathroom today. My extra was to soak the shower head in a bowl of hot water with vinegar. I am about to vacuum now that dinner is done.

OP posts:
Mumtobabyhavoc · 25/01/2025 05:21

Update: did a very thorough vacuum, including couches and pulled out fridge to vacuum beind and then wiped fridge exterior.

OP posts:
Peridot1 · 25/01/2025 09:50

I will take it as a win thanks @Mumtobabyhavoc. And your vacuuming sounds like a big win too.

I did most of my list yesterday except for making bread. Will do that today. Extra job was cleaning the coffee table. It’s glass and has two layers and doing the bottom shelf involves crawling around in my hands and knees so it doesn’t get done as much as it should. DH thought my efforts were amusing though.

Feeling the benefit of the kitchen shelves and cookery books cleaning and sorting as I’m not sneezing when I sit in the kitchen now. Need to keep on top of that.

Today’s list:

  • strip DS’s bed and wash the bedding
  • DS’s washing
  • make brown bread
  • finish washing kitchen cabinets
  • tidy off dining table and clean table and chairs
  • dust sideboard

Have a good day all.

Aria999 · 25/01/2025 13:38

lol @Peridot1 I am allergic to house dust too, it often acts as my wake up call when I have not vacuumed for too long! Mmmm, bread....

Vacuuming behind the fridge is very next level @Mumtobabyhavoc ! Ours is built in and very large so whatever horrors are behind there will have to stay there!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 26/01/2025 01:31

Thanks, Aria and Peridot.
I have steam cleaned the floors and area rugs and the floor in one bedroom and pulled out bed so cleaned under that and under the dresser and moved things to get corners; then changed the bed and washed the sheets. Did a niggling task of combining two pillows into one: a local sheep farm makes wool-filled pillows and I bought two thin ones. Over time they have compacted so I put the filling from one into the other and doubled the cover so I don't have to store it away. Now I have a nice thick pillow.

To do: switch dressers and clothes between bedrooms in prep of moving dc into a larger room to share for as long as practical. Pack up kitchen in prep of kitchen counter replacement starting Monday (3day job).

Hi all- I arrived home last night after a long trip riddled with delays. Was fairly zombie-like last night and am now awake with the lovely jetlag (which i am dealing with by having a quiet glass of wine- well, I'm not driving anywhere today! ) Today will be a washing and sorting out my unpacking.

I hope everyone on our lovely thread is well. I will go back and catch up on what I have missed!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 26/01/2025 04:45

Lobelia, glad you are home and things are good. Hope they stay that way. 🩷

WinterFrog · 26/01/2025 06:31

Welcome back @FourSeasonsLobelia!

@Peridot1 our tv is on a glass two tier table thing and it's a terrible dust catcher. We're so last century- everyone else I know has theirs on the wall! (Also three times the size of ours)
We're quite tidy currently, so I think I shall sort out some clothing today. I've also ended up with some of my mother's summer clothes which I need to return to her house.

I hope you all have a lovely day 💐

petalpower · 26/01/2025 10:29

Welcome back @FourSeasonsLobelia . Hope the jet lag passes quickly.
Had a big sort out in the cupboard under the stairs at the end of last week and have ordered some large storage boxes from John Lewis which should arrive tomorrow to store all the Christmas wrapping bits and lights. Also fixed the set of shelves under the stairs which I thought couldn’t be done - found the little widgets that a shelf sits on and fixed it in about 30 seconds. A job I’ve been putting off for a long while! At the back of the cupboard I found all our wedding cards and a box of photos which were nice to look back on and reminisce over. The photos need sorting out but that’s a job for another day. Also sold the last of my eBay items (a coat that I’d decided was probably going to the charity shop as it had been sat on eBay for so long) and sent another box of old teaching books to WeBuyBooks earlier in the week which was another win. The charity bag for life is full too so I’ll need to drop that off this week.
Have a lovely day fellow projecteers!

Peridot1 · 26/01/2025 14:43

Welcome back @FourSeasonsLobelia and I love your dealing with jet lag tip! I’ll remember that one.

I did everything on yesterday’s list except making bread. That doesn’t happen often! And an extra job of tidying out and clearing out some things from the games/jigsaw cupboard. Was able to fit two new jigsaws in. One was a present from my sister - she got a jigsaw made from a photo of our two dogs. Lovely but I cried!

Having a bit of a lazy day today. Went out this morning to take some things back to Next and pick up a parcel. Nipped in to M&S and ended up buying a few bits for the house. Am about to put on some washing and I think that will be me for the day. It’s pouring down and miserable so an hour in the sofa with my book is the plan.

Have a good day all.

FourSeasonsLobelia · 26/01/2025 15:56

Hi All. Thanks for the welcome home Thanks Things are much better with medical issues and family so i could leave with some confidence thankfully.

I managed to get through all my unpacking. Usually that takes me 5 to 7 business days. I have washed everything that needs it. I also joined the gym DH goes to, and plan to go Tuesdays and Thursdays....... No Matter What. On the agenda for this afternoon is some peppermint tea and to help the Dcs with prep.

Our tv is on a table as well @WinterFrog . While I was away DH got a new one and I can't yet figure out how it works.... or if it gets netflix. It is possible my brain is too tired to handle the simple stuff though. Grin

Hope everyone has a lovely evening- it's wild out there where I am!

Peridot1 · 27/01/2025 08:48

Happy Monday everyone. It’s wild and wet and windy here but the sun is trying to make an appearance.

Still didn’t make bread. Might try today if I get a chance.

DS has the lurgy that’s going around so I’m desperately trying not to catch it. Lots of hand washing and vitamin taking going on. Swigging Sambucol from the bottle. That’s Sambucol NOT Sambuca! 😄

Today is cleaning the kitchen day. My usual Monday routine. Also laundry and changing my bed.

And a root canal. Joy. Well it’s finishing the one that was started two weeks ago.

SpiritOfEdna · 27/01/2025 13:48

Got up at stupid o'clock to go to a refpilates class this morning, got there by the skin of my teeth, only for us all to be locked out of the studio - I really felt for the poor instructor trying to get us in, I am consequently a bit tired 😄 not jet lagged though (although I like that remedy...) It was so cloudy here, fat chance of seeing the planets aligned over the weekend

  • I have emptied my wardrobe and classified everything as in the room (loved) and out of the room (not loved) - the latter ready to go into a charity bag.
  • couple of coats need taking to dry cleaning
  • need to find somewhere to dry clean a wool duvet (as it was shoved on top of the wardrobe) and is covered in dust. My local JL says they have a Johnsons but I cannot find it in store.....
  • food prep post a Costco trip yesterday to make a stew base to freeze. Trying not to eat out/have ready meals in February
  • phone vets (again) as they keep sending wrong flea treatment for SpiritDoggo
  • I've emptied every cupboard, every drawer looking for my walking boot inner soles and cannot find them (but, bright side, have got more stuff to throw out) so will bite the bullet and buy a new pair (they were so comfy and molded to my feet :sad)
  • finance admin done today
That's all for today, have a good one, SoE
FourSeasonsLobelia · 28/01/2025 04:54

Morning all. Wild and windy here as well! Jetlag continues but sadly no bespoke Lobelia remedy this morning Grin because i have to drop documents off at the accountants and go to the gym for my first session.

Yesterday I had a burst of energy and did nearly 4 hours of regular house keeping plus made a banana and chocolate chip cake which the Dcs had with ice cream for pudding. I did not do a 'traditional daily project' as i was on the regular routine but I am thinking gently about a tip run later this week. I am pleased with what I achieved though and did re-arrange some sitting room furniture so perhaps that was the daily project after all.

Our kitchen windowsill has peeling paint though so I also need to start dealing with that, hopefully this week as well.

I hope everyone is well and fine and has a wonderful day!

WinterFrog · 28/01/2025 07:06

Still fairly wild by our soft southerner standards round here too. Think the wind's meant to drop later today.
What time is your pilates class @SpiritOfEdna? I mean how early is early??
Although I was up early myself today, without even @FourSeasonsLobelia's jet lag excuse.
I like the notion of 'thinking gently' about tasks. That suits me too. Things get done eventually round here. I tend to ponder on things for a while then do them all at once.
I need to think gently about my garden. I do not think about it enough. It is tidy, thanks to having a gardener in last year but I can't afford him long term. It would be nice to actually do some planting and not just clearance for a change.
How is your poor mouth feeling @Peridot1? Hope you don't catch the lurgy!
Sorry about the loss of your insoles @SpiritOfEdna New ones are never the same.
@petalpower you've reminded me, have some photos to sort.

Love you lot for your ideas and inspiration and your willingness to share the ups and downs of trying and not always succeeding in getting things done. Make haste slowly, as my dad used to say. Babysteps, and progress not perfection, as Flylady says. All can be applied to every corner of life it seems.

Have a great and productive day everyone. I'm going for a walk as soon as it's light, as otherwise it's an indoor day today.

FourSeasonsLobelia · 28/01/2025 07:20

''Things get done eventually round here. I tend to ponder on things for a while then do them all at once.''

This describes me perfectly @WinterFrog !

Have a good day all. Thanks

Peridot1 · 28/01/2025 07:52

Morning all!

Mouth is ok thanks @WinterFrog. Root canal now finished so fingers crossed the infection heals. It’s one I didn’t know I had though.

I was awake bright and early too here so I got all my summer clothes out of the trunk at the end of my bed and have one lot washed and hung up and second load in. They just need freshening so quick wash. Then I can start sorting what to take to Australia on Monday.

I tend to ponder jobs here too. Much better than rushing in and making mistakes. That’s my excuse anyway! Also I’m a class one procrastinator.

Today’s list:

  • clean lights over kitchen island
  • clean and sort shelving units in dining area

Have a great day all.

SpiritOfEdna · 28/01/2025 12:16

@WinterFrog - it was at 6:45. I do have PT sessions 2 x week which start at 7 so thought the 15 minutes earlier wouldn't be such a stretch - although I hadn't anticipated there would be so much traffic on the road at that time of morning and what getting up 30 minutes earlier would be like 😄

Today

  • I've got lemons in the fridge and candles going in all the rooms today - I attacked the chopping of onions to do some batch cooking and the house fairly reeks of onions! Today is carrots.
  • Trying to head into a frugal February - but I keep looking for stuff. Underbed storage being one (huge jump in £30 from the last time I ordered), dog groom another Luckily I don't know where my debit/credit cards are stashed to give me a pause 😄 the books can go under the bed until I can justify the cost and the dog can have a bath here - her fur is pretty short so a groom would be sheer laziness on my part.
  • my new laces for walking boots arrive today.
  • I am sorting out a suitcase I keep letters/old photos in. I keep getting distracted. I thought my inner soles might be there 😄A long old trip down memory lane - old photos of Moscow from when I was a student and the letters 😄 Trying to be ruthless with a cull - first job is to sort out letters from photos from travel stuff
That's all for today, have a good one, SoE
Aria999 · 28/01/2025 15:39

Hello all, happy Tuesday!

Yesterday's project successfully completed was to hand wash my cashmere sweater. The washing machine killls them even on cold and delicate.

I am now wearing it which should free me up to wash the other one 😁

Also took DH and DD to get DD passport.

Need to think about today, probably due a housework catchup

Mumtobabyhavoc · 28/01/2025 19:19

Peridot, glad tooth is feeling better. Is it still infected? If so, it might be prudent to take antibiotics with you just in case. 🤔
Aria, god I hate hand-washing. I haven't done it in years.
Lobelia, good on you for getting back into routine.

I packed up kitchen for new counter install. Contractor installed the one new lower cupboard needed and today has advised counter will be delivered tomorrow. Should've been today. 🤔 I'm trying not to be annoyed. Having little ones means that moving microwave and coffee maker into dining room is a BIG DEAL and they must be for touching. Have already spilled hot coffee on table and my hand trying to hold baby back with one hand and move coffee with other. Anyway....
Havoc still has fever, although it is in the 38's and not 39's now, so staying home from play school, but going to go sledding instead as affect is good and I'll go insane and get very shouty if we stay indoors all day.
Know thyself....
