Today’s achievements:

  • made smug soup from sad vegetables
  • hung 10 pictures with DH without shouting
  • washed dog bed covers and blankets
  • had lunch with lovely friend
  • made social arrangements for the next few weeks
  • managed to stay upright on lethal ice at the bottom of the lane whilst walking Senior and Junior Petaldog
Now collapsed in front of the log burner with wine and rubbish tv!
FourSeasonsLobelia · 10/01/2025 19:28

Oooh hanging pictures. I have 5 to hang when I get home. Been putting it off for over a year . That will make an excellent daily project.

Aria999 · 10/01/2025 19:31

That's some productive procrastinating @WinterFrog ! Glad you got it sorted eventually.

I am going a bit crazy over this parent organization thing. I have a failure mode where I Just Want it Sorted Out and I can't make myself (e.g.) wait for replies to emails, do slower and more in depth research, stop worrying about it.... I am spinning. I suspect I am also driving everyone else crazy by sending way too many emails.

I have made some progress but there's a lot still to do before we are functioning legally, not all of which I can do alone, and I am stressed.

Anyway, today;

  • met with the bank and gave them Parent Org's shiny new tax ID
  • did some online research about 501c3 organizations
  • requested a quote for gutter and window cleaning
  • booked a car service
  • tidied about half the kitchen
  • folded a small fraction of the clean laundry

I just can't focus...

RunningKatie · 10/01/2025 20:00

Oh @Aria999 that sounds hard work, hopefully you are making some headway with it all.

Today, I've discussed furniture relocation with dh. Not done it, just floated the idea. Will let it perculate and then launch into it on Sunday when his guard is down.

Got to start sorting dc1s birthday. Teenagers are so tricky, I rather miss the days of unicorns and my little ponies.

As it's Friday I'm going for a home measures gin, definitely ready for it tonight.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 10/01/2025 20:41

Katie, aka as a generous free pour. 😁

Sounds like everything is humming along here.

I've got a second load of laundry on after hanging up the first. Went into storage closet and found chargers in the first bin I opened for two lights I needed to charge, so light are charging. 🤗 This was important since I use them for evening walks with dc.

Have done a bit of a tidy of dc's toys and cleaned off dining table so Havoc could play with Play Dough. Gave a rolling pin and pasta cutters to use and a silpat mat.
Rather annoyed at myself for having used them when I was cutting the vinyl window covers last spring and sliced into and through them with the exacto knife. Now need to replace. 🤦‍♀️
Baby has woken up and has been fed, so now going to get dc out for a good walk since rain has stopped.
Planing to make ramen of sorts for lunch when we get home and have a chicken pie for dinner.

Aria999 · 10/01/2025 23:39

Good luck with the furniture relocation @RunningKatie ! What furniture are you relocating, and to where? I want a G and T now!

I so need to tidy DC toys as well @Mumtobabyhavoc . I am having that rabbit in the headlights post Christmas and January birthday moment, when there is nowhere to put anything until I do a proper clearout.

Which is an all day job so I need to start it first thing in a morning...

petalpower · 11/01/2025 13:33

We’d been procrastinating for ages about these pictures @FourSeasonsLobelia . Feels good to tick that job off the list! My extra jobs today have been to run a dishwasher cleaner, descale the kettle and clean the fridge.
Still very frosty here and quite foggy too. Keep warm everyone!

RunningKatie · 11/01/2025 14:40

The furniture is a bit like playing a big game of shuffle @Aria999
The bookcase that was in the living room, is currently residing in front of my wardrobe. Going to put that behind the bedroom door.
The oak chest that is behind the bedroom door is going to the living room.
Then in dc1's bedroom there's a small table and a footstool in the dining room destined for the tip.
I could do it all except get the oak chest downstairs, I need dh for that but it's just never ending and the house always feels so full of stuff.
This morning I've stripped dc2's bed and tidied the floor, tidied the bathroom and tidied the fridge by eating leftovers!

Peridot1 · 11/01/2025 14:40

Well done on the pictures @petalpower - and the no shouting. We have loads of pictures we need to decide what to do with. I’m sure there will be shouting.

I am just plodding along doing usual bits. Sun is shining under the tv unit at the moment and showing lots of dust so I think that might need to be dealt with.

Yesterday’s extra job was cleaning the splash back behind the cooker. Today’s was inspired by @SingleThreadJoiner and was clearing out my bedside drawer. I’ll do the other one tomorrow.

Laundry done and I currently have a pair of trainers washing.

I’m on chief cook and bottle washer duty as DH has gout and can’t do anything. He normally cooks. So even though I can’t eat I’m still having to cook. I’ll have soup. As usual!

Have a good Saturday all.

sortmyselfoutagain · 12/01/2025 20:51

DH has been off work since Tuesday as he is unwell and I feel like I just can't get everything organised (this has nothing to do with poor DH but I'm using this as an excuse for as long as I can).
I did a good brain dump earlier of everything that I want to get done and feel much better for it. I'm thinking of it as a "this is a very friendly reminder that I'm a job you'd like to get done to make your life a bit easier" list rather than a "this must get done immediately or you'll spend forever feeling bad about it". It feels to good to get it all out my head and down on paper. I've broken everything down into tasks that can be done in a day so I will be around here every most days telling you all my successes 🙌
Anyway today's job was to find my marriage certificate. Which I did find stuffed in a drawer along with two other copies I had in case I misplaced the first one. AND I also completed the DVLA form to change my name (I've been thinking about this since I got married 10 months ago). I'm pleased I've got this far with it I just need to put a stamp on it and post it which I've promised myself I will do tomorrow then I can tick this off the list.

SpiritOfEdna · 12/01/2025 21:10

I am knackered. Two long SpiritDoggo walks - one on the beach but no boats today 😢
I have however, got my car back, and have been happily driving round. No more spendy cabs. And I can actually start one of my new year habits this week - going for a swim. 🏊
Today

  • prepped a load of veg for batch cooking - did mean to cook but have run out of time and energy. Job for tomorrow
  • Cleaned fireplace and coffee tables and tv stand
  • swept up a load of rogue pine needles from Xmas tree
  • floors all cleaned
  • meal planned for week (until pen ran out 😂)
  • I do want to prep a bag to go swimming this week before I crash
I didn’t sleep very well last night - I did the wordle at 6 mins past 12 and various crosswords to try and switch off. I am counting down the minutes till bedtime today 🥱🥱
Mumtobabyhavoc · 13/01/2025 00:43

Good for you, SoE! Two long dog walks makes a very nice Sunday, I think. Lots of chores, too!

How is tooth, Peridot?

Gorgeous day here, chilly, and I squandered it. I really should have been out with dc. We played indoors, I washed sheets and changed a bed and I FINALLY TOOK THE CHRISTMAS TREE DOWN and swept the deck. 🤗
Just finishing a cup of tea and a (4) dark choc Digestive then will start making dinner.

OP posts:
sortmyselfoutagain · 13/01/2025 06:32

Yay for taking down the Christmas tree @Mumtobabyhavoc we didn't put one up this year and I really missed it.
Sounds like a jam packed day @SpiritOfEdna no wonder you're knackered!

Today's one job is to clear out my desk drawer. I need to find a receipt to return a jumper I got my mum for Christmas and also find a voucher DH and I have for an overnight stay. If they're not in the desk drawer then I don't really know where they'll be so fingers crossed they are there. Meeting a colleague for an early morning walk soon. We will inevitably just talk work which isn't great but sometimes its good to have a debrief with someone who understands what things are like and the walk will do me good.

WinterFrog · 13/01/2025 07:40

Morning all! I've managed to mislay a hospital letter about an appointment for my mother, which means I've given myself extra work to do in phoning the hospital. Fortunately I have the date, but foolishly didn't write the time. Need to book transport so it's this morning's urgent task.
I can't manage a get together with colleagues or ex colleagues without it becoming all about work either @sortmyselfoutagain We don't mean to - it just seems to happen, but as you say, it's can be a bit of a debrief. I hear you about not getting much done with your husband about. I hope he feels better soon for all the reasons 💕
Well done re tree @Mumtobabyhavoc You get so much done around the place with small people. I only manage what I do now that mine all have their own homes - it all falls flat when they stay, even now! I do sometimes watch littlest's parents and their level of organisation, and feel totally inadequate. Is anybody even capable of having just one biscuit? I can manage no biscuits, but once I start it's got to be at least four!
You sound fresh air tired @SpiritOfEdna Sounds like a lovely day! I hope you had a better sleep last night.
Gout and faceache @Peridot1 you poor things 😔 Rotten luck having to cook what you can't eat. I hope you both feel better soon 🙏
Hello 👋 to everyone I haven't mentioned. I must get on and do some work, till hospital admin team are available. Also getting dressed would be useful. Have a great day everyone!

Peridot1 · 13/01/2025 09:29

Morning all. A busy weekend for some of you.

I didn’t do the other bedside drawer so will do that today.

Yesterday’s task was giving the washing machine a day off! I hope it was appreciated.

@WinterFrog - DS ended up with all three laundry baskets in his room full of his clean washing again. I suggested we spend ten minutes putting it away and than I forgot and he did it himself! Feels like a win especially as two of them were only there for a day.

Tooth is ok thanks @Mumtobabyhavoc. Well surgery site seems ok and swelling has gone down. I’m off for a root canal this morning. Hopefully the last invasive procedure.

Today-

  • dishwasher
  • dentist
  • Washing
  • change my bed
  • vacuum downstairs

Have a good day all.

SingleThreadJoiner · 13/01/2025 09:54

@Peridot1 , I could only manage the hiding everything in a drawer because I was forced to take everything out in the first place 😆I am now trying to discover if I can put everything back in...

Sounds like everyone had a busy week, with victories to celebrate 💫I, too, would very much like to hang things on walls without shouting...but will it happen?!

Our carpet fitters finished a whole TWO days ahead of schedule, which is brilliant, and we are very happy with the result. Taking the opportunity to rethink where some of the furniture can go before putting it all back. D's bunk bed is all built - two long days of work for the H - and she is delighted with, and spends lots of time hanging out on the top. Not so much the sleeping though, that's still on the bottom! Oh and I managed to sell her previous bed on one of the Whatsapp group in less than a day - major result!

Routine tasks for today: keep on with the putting things away in drawers etc. Put away some laundry.

Extra task for today: book a physio appointment

Happy Monday!

Aria999 · 13/01/2025 12:32

Yesterday: cleared out the DC rooms.

Took all day and was exhausting! DD room is tidy now and DS room nearly tidy and there is space to put everything away (more or less).

Now just need to deal with the resulting piles of boxes for storage/ the charity shop....

SpiritOfEdna · 13/01/2025 12:36

Morning. I am actually refreshed this morning after a very good night's sleep. SpiritDoggo keeps looking at me for a walk but today is a very busy work day so she will be lucky to get a swifty 😄
Today

  • another balls up with direct debits due to change of bank. I need to find my debit card to make a payment otherwise I'll get a non-payment charge
  • I need to batch cook a base for stews. I have a long 2 hour meeting that I have to listen in on and not contribute, so may do it then as everything was prepped yesterday (polishing my halo)
  • I am trying to reduce my double wardrobe down to a single - one shelf to go
  • recycling
  • back to search for a man and a van - no-one responded to my online requests
  • no wonder the joiner scarpered when he finished the doors - there is finishing needed on a couple where we had new frames and the plaster has been knocked out a bit. Will do a bit of research to work out what needs to be done. Am not getting him back to sort out, also not giving them a good review anywhere 😄
  • swim bag is prepped - torn on day and time 😄OK, so Friday at 8am it is.
That's all for now, have a good day, SoE
Peridot1 · 14/01/2025 09:08

Morning all

I didn’t do any of the task on my list from yesterday. Fell asleep on the sofa in the afternoon.

Had my root canal and unfortunately she didn’t manage to get it all done in the time so I’m back in two weeks to get it finished.

Today:

  • clean kitchen including cooker
  • vacuum and wash kitchen/dining area floors
  • change my bed
  • finish sorting last bits of Christmas stuff

I also want to do a cleaning rota so I get around to each room rather than fire-fighting as I seem to be doing at the moment.

SpiritOfEdna · 14/01/2025 12:13

@Peridot1 that all sounds very painful.
Today

  • I found my debit card (in the card reader!) so sorted out CC payment.
  • move another shelf of stuff into main wardrobe - shoes/boots I think. Will move jumpers across as well.
  • just looked up and saw the state of the extractor fan above the oven so will clean that today.
  • recycle coffee pods
  • it's cold today I need to find a matching pair of socks 😄
  • New starter in work so need to get my act together with documentation :
  • Gearing up for an essential spend only February - so need to start cutting down on my everyday 'essentials' now -👀 fizzy drinks 👀
  • fridge is looking a bit grubby AND bare, so must get the shelves cleaned and get a shopping list going.,
  • cancel an appointment I had to get the car fixed as I had found somewhere else
That's all for today, have a good one, SoE
RunningKatie · 14/01/2025 16:23

Wfh day today and the cleaner has been, it's her 3rd time and I'm still spending a lot of time tidying before she comes. Hoping to get things a bit more sorted each fortnight.
The furniture moving has started! Not finished yet but any progress is good.
We finally seem to have a break in the weather, so I can do more exercise with freezing or injuring myself.

Aria999 · 14/01/2025 16:48

Oh no @Peridot1 I can't believe she didn't finish it! Hope you are not too uncomfortable!?

My client has picked up the ball again today so trying to make progress with work. It's hard going as he keeps having new ideas for how we could do it differently but he doesn't have much time to talk (and we struggle to get video calls to work technically).

I have finally managed to deploy the robot vacuum to DD's room and am working on DS room (he has legos all over the floor, they will need an appropriate temporary home).

Also put a load of laundry on and chased up the gutter and window cleaning quote (over to them now to schedule it).

Then I need to do something with the boxes of clothes and toys from the clear out, which are still all over the hall and our bedroom!

Peridot1 · 14/01/2025 21:52

@SpiritOfEdna and @Aria999 - it wasn’t actually that bad to be honest. I closed my eyes for a lot of it and just let them get on with it. I think I drifted off at one point! The dentist doing the root canals is a specialist and only there once every two weeks hence the delay in the next stage. She said it was quite complicated due to how the previous dentist had done it and I have an extra canal which is awkwardly shaped. Trust me! But I’m not in any pain. Didn’t even need painkillers afterwards.

WinterFrog · 15/01/2025 06:58

Morning all! Lovely to read the updates as always. Nice way to start the day.
Pleased it's warmed up a little. I've nearly gone over on the ice, twice.
Early start today - done a wash and now it's in the dryer. Cheaper before 7am apparently. Smart meter seems to agree. Cat's been brushed, and have started a flylady weekly 'blah' - bins, mirrors, dust, mop,(did bed yesterday.) Just got to run hoover round. DH still snoring. I have a couple of emails to send and a meeting later so quick coffee then some notes ( I do love a deadline!)
Dinner is leftovers so that's easy.
I too need to sort out my bedside table. So much stuff in the drawer that it got jammed last week, which resulted in bruised hand trying to release it through the available gap.

I hope all is well with you all!

sortmyselfoutagain · 15/01/2025 12:35

I managed to clean out the desk drawer on Monday but couldn’t find the receipt or voucher. I’m assuming I have binned the receipt which is annoying but I can live with that. The voucher was a dinner bed & breakfast at a fancy hotel that DB & SIL gave us for a wedding present so I’ll need to have another think where it might be. The cluttered chaos that is my house / life / head gets me down almost daily but the losing things and forgetting makes me feel awful about myself.

DH and I went to IKEA on Monday and came back with 2 new wardrobes and new drawers for my room (the spare room where I keep all my things). I’ll have 48 hours between finishing work today and going back on Friday to get them built and everything sorted and given a new home. BIL is due to pick up our old drawers and unit tonight so need to get on with it as soon as work is finished.

I’m keen to hear more about your cleaning rota @Peridot1 . I think I would like to get in the habit of spending half an hour every day on one room giving it a bit more of an in-depth clean, sorting cupboards etc but I don’t know if that’s the right approach. I’ve been thinking about this for a very long time and actually no deep cleaning or sorting has been done at all 🙄 less thinking more action is much needed over here!
