Where has the time gone?! I cannot believe it is 6th January already. DH went back to work today so I had an hour or so to myself when I came home from work just to potter about. DH really is the most wonderful man but I need a lot of me time and I haven't had any for the last couple of weeks so today has been grand! I do have a little shed in the garden which I have kitted out in fairy lights and candles. I also have a desk and a tv, a heater and lots of blankets so that's where I am now. I'm promising myself I will come out here more often as it is so peaceful.

Today's job is to gather up all my notebooks and sort out all the lists I have. I love a list but sometimes they get out of control and I have too many.
I have one day off through the week and this year I'm wanting to do nice things for myself and go on some solo adventures so hopefully tonight I'll get some things planned.

I'll probably not be able to respond to everyone as that kind of thing is a lot for me but please know that I really do love this little group and how wonderful and welcoming everyone has been to me. I am enjoying reading every post and reading about everyones days.

RunningKatie · 06/01/2025 19:55

Snow day! We had another dump overnight so school was closed, bonus day off for the dc. They were delighted.
I wfh so was on hand for all tech related emergencies but they've amused each other which is so lovely.
Today I've written a list of big jobs I want to do around the house this year, or give to dh to tackle. One of them is to purchase and hang a new door for the kitchen, so I need to ease him into these gently - might start him off with lifting the decorations into the loft as it's still not done.
Also, trying to simplify my life, so unsubscribed from 2 email lists and hidden someone from my FB friends who frustrates me with their politics but I can't remove for fear of causing family ructions.
I've also started reading my second book of the year and am sitting with a small craft bag beside me, I think it's got some little cross stitches in so I'm going to start that tonight.

petalpower · 06/01/2025 22:09

I’m lots better today thank you @WinterFrog but DS seems now to be coming down with the lurgy.
It seems to be the season for car repairs @SpiritOfEdna . My car went in for service today but also needed a new battery and a sensor for the lights plus brake pads and discs. An expensive trip to the garage.
Glad you’ve arrived safely @FourSeasonsLobelia . Hope the trip goes as well as possible.
All the Christmas decorations came down today and are back in the garage. Also uploaded and ordered a load of photos ready to put into an album for last year. I’m normally quite good at keeping on top of that job but things slipped a bit last year.
It’s wet and cold here but we’ve missed the snow. We live at the top of a hill and also have a fairly steep long drive so snow makes things difficult.
Good luck with your crafting @RunningKatie . I love a bit of cross stitch or tapestry.

petalpower · 06/01/2025 22:11

Good luck at the dentists tomorrow @Peridot1 . Hope it goes smoothly.

Very busy day today.
-took my mum to a medical appt and pharmacy
-another errand for her
-Costco shop (just a little one), picked up contact lenses while there
-put lunch together, got dc to take a few hours quiet time resulting in a very late nap
-resulted in a late dinner
-wiped up food from floors and carpet (baby)
-vacuumed then steam cleaned floors and area rugs

Extra: found an extra canvas bin for toys that have migrated to dining area.
Christmas tree is still up. Must take down tomorrow.

Morning all! I could have written your latest post @sortmyselfoutagain I love the sound of your shed! #puts thinking cap on!
It's lovely to have you here 💐 It is definitely not compulsory to tag people. It's just lovely to read what people have been up to, and gather inspiration and share a few thoughts.

I had a quick look at the link you posted @Mumtobabyhavoc and will certainly enjoy reading more. Thank you.

Good luck today @Peridot1

Not loads indeed @SpiritOfEdna! You get more done in a day than I do in a week!

I have, however, done the washing machine, booked the vet appointment and been for dental check up. The house is '15 mins away from company ready' as per flylady. I'd need the whole 15 minutes though, so I shall deal with that now.

Most of my clutter is gone. DH claims to have been inspired and may look into dealing with some of his own, which would please me enormously. In the meantime I'm going to do a little rearrange of the kitchen I think.

Have a great day all 💕

SpiritOfEdna · 07/01/2025 08:59

Morning. I would love my own shed 😄
Today:

  • need to locate a random beeping from around the bathroom - it has been driving me mad :will need to empty the storage cupboard opposite the bathroom
  • need to give some curtains a quick iron before they go into storage
  • move my desk nearer the radiator - DONE (that is better) 😄
  • need to find a tape measure - various frames need replacing/bits adding so would like to get them ordered today
  • kitchen cupboards emptied yesterday and tidied - same for living room today.
That's all for now, SoE
Peridot1 · 07/01/2025 10:21

Morning all.

Had an early PT session at the gym so that’s done. And have some ideas for aims/goals for this year. Which I will fit in with the 25 habits thread somehow.

House is still a mess as I’m still sorting out the Christmas stuff. I’ve ordered two new boxes for fragile baubles so can’t do much till they arrive. I can however get some other stuff packed away. So I will do one box in a bit. Then dentist later and will spend the rest of the day feeling sorry for myself I think.

@sortmyselfoutagain - don’t worry about feeling you need to tag everyone. That tends to make thread itself feel like yet another chore which is not the aim.

Have a good day all.

Peridot1 · 08/01/2025 09:55

Morning all. From someone who resembles a chipmunk on one side!

Feeling ok but not planning on doing too much today. The boxes I ordered for the Christmas decorations arrived but they are soft sided which I wasn’t expecting so not sure they will work. I will have a look.

I also need to research Vit D as I knew I was low but the dentist said my bone was very soft so I should ramp up supplements.

That and finishing my book may be it for the day.

Have a good day all.

petalpower · 08/01/2025 10:44

Ouch @Peridot1 ! Take it easy.
Now sat at the garage waiting for a sensor to be fixed which couldn’t be done the other day. Then calling to pick up some pictures that we’ve had framed and are ready for collection. DH is out all day at a volunteering thing he does so I’m
hoping to get on top of some jobs in the house. Bed changing, ironing etc.
Have a good day everyone.

SingleThreadJoiner · 08/01/2025 12:22

Hellooooo everyone and happy new year! I am declaring thread bankruptcy and will not attempt to tag people individually 😊but I have been following along a bit over the holidays

Currently sitting in my study with the carpetfitters banging on downstairs - we are getting new carpets in our bedroom, the D's, the sitting room, and all four flights of stairs - they were not impressed when they saw how much there is to do with the stairs...

So Monday and Tuesday consisted of taking down Christmas tree and moving furniture/emptying things so that furniture could be moved/unpacking from the holidays/getting started on laundry

The rest of the week will presumably consist of reversing the process, except for the Christmas tree!

Also seeing D's godmother on Saturday for belated Christmas present exchange...which means I have to find a present for her!

With warm greetings from the madness,
STJ

Aria999 · 08/01/2025 12:35

Hello all! The fight against the post Christmas tide of chaos continues.

Yesterday:
Took down Christmas tree, put decorations away, put tree on curb side

Made notes for parent organization meeting in evening

Did a load of laundry

Tidied bathrooms and a path to them for the cleaners

Shoveled the snow

Renewed our parking permit

Wrote invitations for DD party in February

Put the dishwasher on

Ordered more plastic boxes for cellar clearout

Today:
Mostly housework.

RunningKatie · 08/01/2025 18:14

Today, unsubscribed from another email list! Dh and I are moving the Christmas stuff to the loft this evening, we absolutely are. Or I shall drink all the gin I got for Christmas and cry.

Glad to see everyone is still de-Christmassing, my Christmas oven gloves are in the washing machine but I think I've spotted and boxed up everything else.

Just discussing booking a cheese afternoon tea with dc2. It's my birthday soon and they like cheese as much as I do!

Aria999 · 08/01/2025 21:22

@RunningKatie I got given a mini cheese hamper from these guys for Christmas and it is So Good....

Daily Project Round 6
Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/01/2025 23:46

I just spent over two hours checking and re-labeling the breakers in the electric panel. I found quite a few mislabeled, missing labels or lacking detail. I urge everyone to check theirs. I added notes as well: nearest hosp, distance and phone number, compass direction, power co phone number; re-numbered each breaker, made a detailed list for each and labeled each with basic info. Noted glitch with smoke detector and will buy a new one.

Christmas tree is still up as a result. 🤷‍♀️

Katie: gin comment. 😂
Peridot: you need Katie's gin. 💡
Aria: were you over-caffeinated today? 😂

FourSeasonsLobelia · 09/01/2025 05:01

I deffo need Katie's gin. Grin

❤💖to all. Thanks all fine here but nothing to report. xx

WinterFrog · 09/01/2025 07:14

Morning all! A drive by fruiting from me today - running late but just to say I've read the posts and what an amazing bunch you are!
@Mumtobabyhavoc I'm not sure I'd know where to start but great job, I'm inspired, and will look into doing same when I'm home later.

Peridot I hope you heal quickly!

Peridot1 · 09/01/2025 08:36

@Mumtobabyhavoc - sadly no alcohol allowed until Sunday! 😩. So @RunningKatie’s gin is safe.

Your electric panel job sounds like a really good one to do. I think ours is ok as it’s a relatively new build.

@Aria999 - busy day!

@RunningKatie - did you drink the gin?

I ended up doing a few more jobs yesterday than planned. Cleaned and descaled the coffee machine which I have been meaning to do for ages. Gave the kitchen counters a good clean. Did some more de-Christmassing. More to do still. Decided the new boxes I bought are rubbish so they are going back. Finished my book and started a new one. And met with a new cleaner. DH wants someone for when I’m away so our neighbour’s cleaner has some free time every second week which will work well.

Today -

  • laundry
  • change a bed
  • vacuum
  • return boxes
  • do some more Christmas sorting

I currently resemble the elephant man so am avoiding mirrors. Got a fright during the night when I got up to go to the bathroom and saw myself. Hoping the swelling starts to go down today.

SingleThreadJoiner · 09/01/2025 09:46

Good work from everyone! @Mumtobabyhavoc - we had to have our circuit board completely replaced last year as it was botched and unsafe (thanks, previous owners!) and now everything is nicely labeled and organised. It's so nice when that happens, isn't it!

Present for godmother found in magical box of Spare Presents Because You Never Know - thank you, past me!

Carpetfitters did a great job on the bedrooms yesterday, we are very pleased with the result. Today is sitting room and start of stairs - currently very noisy.

My extra job today is to start putting things away again - I'm thinking of reorganising my drawers and having less clutter on the bedside tables, by moving it INTO the bedside table drawers - cunning, eh?

WinterFrog · 09/01/2025 14:08

You are all outstanding!!
I am here procrastinating. I have some admin to do, so I have hoovered, and put a wash on, mopped floors, and tidied up when what i actually need to do is sit down at my desk and get started.
I also need to bank a cheque because my app won't play ball.
I need to chase up a prescription as I've been all round the houses on the app, at the pharmacy, via a link the receptionist gave me...still no prescription.

I should go to post office, pharmacy ( to see if it's there and they forgot to tell me) then the surgery. It's for HRT patch and I'm on my last one 😤
Best do that first the admin can wait.

WinterFrog · 09/01/2025 15:35

Success! Boots did have both prescriptions and I got my cheques banked. I also discovered that you can get a pre payment thing for HRT at £20 a year. If anyone is interested I put a link on the menopause board.
Feeling accomplished as I've been putting this off as parking is dire in our town and so I have to walk.
Now my accomplished self had better get to the desk!

Peridot1 · 10/01/2025 11:26

@SingleThreadJoiner - if you can put things in your bedside drawers that’s just stealth boasting. 😄 The reason I have clutter on my bedside tables is that the drawers are full. Of clutter.

@WinterFrog - sounds like you got a lot done yesterday.

Yesterday I did a bit more Christmas sorting. Almost done now. Also did an extra job of cleaning the washing machine drawer. Didn’t change a bed so that’s on today’s list.

I resemble a gargoyle slightly less today which is good.

Today:

  • laundry
  • change a bed
  • Christmas stuff
  • insurance claim
  • vacuum
  • defrost bird Bath and put water out for the birds
Have a good day all.
