@Mumtobabyhavoc no peace with tiny ones, is there? But I'm glad you got your lovely pic with both of them and santa! Is Havoc always on the move?
I learnt the hard way to always check the oven before turning it on, when one of mine put a plastic toy in it, and it melted while i was preheating the oven. Burnt things stink, don't they? A relief that you were in your home when it happened so you could sort it quickly 💕

Congratulations on finishing the work and have a lovely (busy!) Christmas @SingleThreadJoiner
The weather was lovely here yesterday too, @Peridot1 You're really on a roll, I'm impressed!
We're ready. Though as said before we're very low key about Christmas so it's not been arduous. Most of it's happening on Christmas Eve here. I do love our little twinkly tree. I'm sitting with a cat on my lap, coffee in hand, and just the tree lights. So cosy!
I think my job for today will be investigating the inside of our rarely used sideboard. It's full of the sort of hidden clutter that needs either getting rid of, or finding a proper home. We're both off this week so will probably go and do something, and visit mum as well. At this point, she's not mobile enough to take out ( getting her in the car not safe) but the home is big with a little cafe area so we can take her 'out' but not 'out, out' ( to quote Mickey Flanagan 😂 She can keep her slippers on!
Hope the run up to Christmas is going smoothly for all of you 🥂

Peridot1 · 23/12/2024 12:36

Glad you got your Santa photo @Mumtobabyhavoc. I have a lovely one of DS with Santa aged about 6 and he is actually smiling in it! Very rare. It still comes out every year and he’s now 23.

I’m still on a cleaning mission. Whatever isn’t cleaned by the end of this afternoon can stay not cleaned until 27th. Two bathrooms to give a quick clean, kitchen to get a good clean and tidy, floors in kitchen and sitting area to be vacuumed and mopped. I have changed my bed and the bedding is washed and in the dryer. DH has oiled our dining table. I emptied out drawers in my bathroom for plumber to sort out the waste pipes and plugs.

DH and I went out for breakfast this morning and then to collect the turkey and get last minute bits. I seem to have bought a lot of biscuits!

Have a good Christmas Eve Eve everyone. Hope all travelling goes smoothly.

WinterFrog · 24/12/2024 07:41

Morning! @Peridot1 I saw a thread about how long you would be able to live off your Christmas food and we'd probably be fine for months with our stash of biscuits, chocolate and cheese!
I was up ridiculous early again. My sleep is sounder due to hrt, which is a blessing, but body feels that the better sleep means a 5am wake up is perfect. Doesn't feel quite so outrageous waking at 5am in the summer!

House is visitor ready, so I'm just chilling this morning. Will probably get a walk on the beach in so I'm primed for the chaos that will descend later!
Have a great Christmas everyone 🥂 🎉

Mumtobabyhavoc · 24/12/2024 08:07

A walk along the beach on Christmas Eve sounds perfect, Froggy. 🐸
Good plan to give yourself a cut-off Peridot. Then it's time to just take a breath and relax. ☺️

Had some closet doors looked at today for repair then two grocery store shops. I just need to wrap another present that arrived from Amazon. Was going to thaw duck from freezer for tomorrow in fridge but fresh were on sale so I bought one to save that step. Dinner will be simple with roasted duck, potatoes, other veg and garlic bread. Since baby's birthday is right after Christmas and I've ordered a (gorgeous) cake I've decided new tradition for Christmas dessert will be ice cream sundaes with lots of fun and decadent toppings like posh Italian candied strawberries and cherries to mimi m&m's, whipped cream, chocolate, dulce de leche... I'm excited about it because it's different, fun, zero pressure and it means we won't be so sick of dessert on baby's birthday.

Just noticed the time. It's officially Christmas Eve here now!

Happy Christmas Eve from the uk! Glad you finished the project @SingleThreadJoiner !

Today must get £ for the older kids Christmas presents. Otherwise we are going to the pantomime and SIL's for lunch (SIL is wonderful, she also cooked dinner and brought it over last night, and is feeding everyone tomorrow as well, as we are staying with MIL who has memory issues; and she has organized things to do for everyone over the next few days).

Peridot1 · 24/12/2024 09:10

Happy Christmas Eve everyone.

Your dessert plan sounds delicious @Mumtobabyhavoc. Love that.

@WinterFrog - I wake early too. Not 5 today though thankfully. Around 6 and I stayed in bed with my book for a bit. A beach walk sounds fabulous.

@Aria999 - your SIL does sound amazing.

I didn’t get all the cleaning done yesterday as DS asked if I wanted to go for a walk with him in the afternoon and I wasn’t turning down that opportunity. Better for me as well!

So a bit of cleaning to be done today. Mainly the kitchen floor and countertops.

So far this morning I have sorted the presents I have into piles and wrapped DH’s. I have delegated wrapping DS’s to DH. And I’ve done the dishwasher and reloaded it and it’s back on again.

I need to nip into town to change a book for DH and I’m planning a nice coffee and pastry somewhere. Then it’s home to get last minute jobs done and relax!

Have a wonderful Christmas all of you lovely people. 🎄🎄🎄

FourSeasonsLobelia · 24/12/2024 10:04

Merry Christmas Eve!

last minute gift wrapping here and film watching. Christmas eve dinner will be scrambled eggs, caviar, bagels and bacon and eggs for the DCs.

Christmas day- Nut roast for DH. Roasted chicken marinated in orange juice, cinnamon and honey with all the trimmings and pigs in blankets. We also have ice cream sundaes for pudding @Mumtobabyhavoc ! None of like the regular sort of puddings and usually go for just cheese and fruit but we all agreed vanilla ice cream, chocolate fudge sauce and mini marshmallows are the go!

Boxing day we are at family and my SIL is making a Moroccan buffet. I can't wait. She's a truly gifted cook.

Wishing you all and your loved ones a very happy festive season!

SingleThreadJoiner · 24/12/2024 14:27

Can I have dinner at yours tonight {mention:FourSeasonsLobelia}@F@FourSeasonsLobelia@FourSeasonsLobelia my phone is not coping with the tagging very well 😂but I love your menu! Enjoy all!

petalpower · 24/12/2024 17:52

Happy Christmas to all - hope you have a fab time with your families and loved ones.
Food all prepped for tomorrow here. DD was a great help and we have most things ready. Ham, baked potatoes and cauliflower cheese chez Petal this evening then a swift trip to our village pub. We’ve been out for drinks and nibbles at local friends this afternoon. Feeling sad about the big changes that have happened in the family since this time last year and particularly how my dad’s dementia has escalated recently but am trying to put a brave face on things. Sending thoughts to anyone else who is struggling a bit this time of year.
(PS: Hope I haven’t put a downer on the thread!)

SpiritOfEdna · 24/12/2024 18:44

Happy Christmas everyone 🎄Nice long walk with SpiritDoggo on the beach this afternoon and some last minute shopping done this morning. Sitting in pyjamas trying to get some energy going for last minute to do list 😂

RunningKatie · 25/12/2024 11:10

Happy Christmas from our house to all of you and yours.
I've been managing a sick dh and FIL is in a perilous condition in hospital, it all escalated very fast and we're not sure what the next few months will bring.
Hoping that you all have lovely days, I'm delighted to report that our fireplace was done by mid Dec but I'm still having nightmares about the decorator, and 2025 will hopefully bring new sofas and curtains!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 25/12/2024 11:22

Katie, sorry to hear about your FIL. That is definitely worrying. I hope your dh feels better soon and can can enjoy the day to some degree.

Merry Christmas to everyone. ☺️

Merry Christmas everyone.

Love our little corner of MN.

I’m really sorry about your FIL @RunningKatie.

@petalpower - I know just what you mean.

WinterFrog · 26/12/2024 08:27

Morning everyone! I heartily agree about our little corner @Peridot1
I'm very sorry to hear about FIL @RunningKatie Hope DH is feeling better and that you managed a nice Christmas day.

Hugs to @petalpower and everyone else who is feeling Christmas sadness 💕

Loving the sound of the menus!
Our festivities were simple, as planned. Among other things we visited mum in the care home, and managed to coincide with Santa, so that was fun!
DH is into football and boxing days past were taken up with him playing. Now he goes to cheer on our local team leaving me free to decompress, which I love. I will nip down to mum but probably not for long as she'll be very weary I expect.

Love you all of you and hope you are enjoying the festivities, however you celebrate 🎉 🥂

FourSeasonsLobelia · 26/12/2024 08:35

Waving to everyone!

Merry Christmas and much love to @RunningKatie and @petalpower .

And hugs to all! I agree about our little corner of MN. Welcome also to any lurkers who wish to delurk. We love newbies. Smile

WinterFrog · 26/12/2024 08:47

Morning @FourSeasonsLobelia and yes we do love newbies 👋

FourSeasonsLobelia · 26/12/2024 08:56

Hello@WinterFrog !

Your Christmas sounds lovely. Smile

I've also been inspired by you and have decided that 2025 I shall return to a horsey life in some way. That seems a very fine resolution. Thanks

Peridot1 · 26/12/2024 10:35

Morning all.

We had a nice quiet day yesterday. Can recommend Uno Show Em No Mercy for getting grumpy people into the spirit. Although that may also have been the Mimosas……. 😄

A lazy day planned here although dishwasher is on for the second time and I’ve been up since shortly after 6.

Am about to clear the dining table and start my Lego Christmas tree that DH gave me for Christmas.

Have a lovely day all.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 27/12/2024 00:22

Also a lazy day here Peridot. We all slept the whole afternoon. DC are at tail end of having colds and I've just started.

I sorted the cupboard over the oven late-night on the 24th and got into horror bedroom again to straighten it out. Feeling quite pleased with that.

Good morning @FourSeasonsLobelia I can highly recommend returning to a horsey life 💕 I had a gap of a few years when I had my hands very full with my children and thought i didn't miss it, then boom, I missed it! I don't ride any more but I love looking after them, plus the general wholesomeness of being out in the fresh air with them. Are you a member of the British Horse Society? It's changed a lot over the years ( joined the 21st century!) There are many opportunities to get involved without owning horses nowadays. Also projects where disadvantaged young people get the opportunity to have horses in their lives, which I hope to look into a bit more this coming year. A couple of our local riding schools are after volunteers, and if I polish my old qualifications I would be eligible to apply 🤞

WinterFrog · 27/12/2024 08:44

@Mumtobabyhavoc sorry you've all been unwell and I hope the naps helped! Baby birthday today?
I'm off out now - it's beautifully mild and misty here and I can hear the birds singing their little hearts out! Catch you all later - is anyone working today? Hope you all have a good ( and productive) day!

FourSeasonsLobelia · 27/12/2024 08:45

Morning @WinterFrog !

Thanks so much for the info! I shall check that out. Back when I was a young-un I used to volunteer for Riding for the Disabled so might look into that again. I'd forgotten I did that and also how much I loved it. We have an excellent school near us and I know they have sessions. They also do sessions for looked after children and children who have had traumatic experiences. That sounds perfect!

petalpower · 27/12/2024 11:29

Sorry to hear of germs @Mumtobabyhavoc . What a pain over Christmas and birthday.
Our Christmas was lovely in the end. Quiet and very different from previous years but we had a nice time just the four of us. I had a FaceTime call with my dad on Christmas Day and he was a bit better than I expected. He has been very low in mood (part of the dementia) and has just started antidepressants which I hope will help.
Today DD is back at work, DS has gone to visit an old uni friend and DH is chilling. We have friends later for dinner so today I will be getting on with prep for that, having a bit of a sort out and carrying on with one of my Christmas jigsaws. It’s been damp and foggy since Christmas Day so I’m doing washing bit by bit to try and dry it on the heated airer before we go away for new year. No chance of line drying and we don’t have a tumble dryer.

RunningKatie · 27/12/2024 11:41

Damp and foggy here too this morning, DH has recovered sufficiently to go hospital visiting, so the dc, ddog and I are relaxing at home.
We've got a dehumidifier so I'm going to put clothes on the clothes horse then switch that on and see if that helps.
Then I'm going to attack the ironing pile as the basket is overflowing all over the bedroom floor.
Then it'll be time for some more festive cheese.

Peridot1 · 27/12/2024 11:51

Hi all.

Sorry to hear you have been hit by colds @Mumtobabyhavoc. They seem to be everywhere at the moment. But better colds than the horrible flu that is doing the rounds here.

Glad you had a nice Christmas @petalpower.

And hope everyone else did too.

It is definitely getting back to some semblance of normal isn’t it? I have second load of washing on. And have done a little bit of sorting in my bedroom/bathroom. And finished building a Lego Christmas tree!

This afternoon we are moving furniture about a bit upstairs to get the spare rooms ready for my sister and family arriving in Sunday. So furniture moving, dusting and vacuuming. And maybe start getting beds made up.

Then it’s a toss up between more Christmas Lego, my Christmas jigsaw or my book.
