Sorry things are rough at the moment @FourSeasonsLobelia. I hope you’re able to have a good Christmas despite your change of plans.

Peridot1 · 17/12/2024 10:40

That sounds like a good plan for the day @FourSeasonsLobelia. I haven’t had any mulled wine yet this year…… on the list for sure!

I’ve been knocking back Sambucol in an effort to avoid a cold that was brewing. And then last night DH was out for dinner with some neighbours and one of them was coughing and sneezing all night apparently. We were both sick last Christmas and I really don’t want to be sick again this year.

SpiritOfEdna · 17/12/2024 10:46

@FourSeasonsLobelia making the most of it!

Today

  • joiner is back - so it'll be a noisy day today BUT with doors finally on. Can't wait I can finally close my bedroom door properly 😄
  • post joiner - hoover all the dust up and we can sort out decorating the main christmas tree.
  • not sure when SpiritDoggo will get a walk
  • mince pie filling done yesterday so today will be pastry and baking
  • fancy making some shortbread as well
  • am trying to work out whether I get paid earlier this christmas or not... early is good, but it's then a long January....
  • I need to tart up a wreath for the front door as it is looking a bit sad. Not sure when that became a thing 😄
That's all for today, v. tired - rubbish night's sleep, have a good one, SoE
Aria999 · 17/12/2024 12:15

@SpiritOfEdna getting there!

I think it's a bit lame of your door guy not to remove the old doors tbh. Does he not have a van?

FourSeasonsLobelia · 18/12/2024 18:56

Evening all. Thanks all for good wishes. Today I did a solid three hours (through bouts of coughing) of cleaning and sorting and started the process of turning the spare room into a walk in wardrobe. Very pleased with my progress. I forsee a trip to Dunelm for storage solutions before the week is out.

SingleThreadJoiner · 18/12/2024 20:37

Hello all, I too seem to have missed the thread for a few days...but the disco last Friday was fabulous and D danced the evening away, all Christmas cards have been written (!) and posted (!!), we decorated the tree at the weekend.

Feeling for you, @FourSeasonsLobelia,and the sad need to change plans at short notice.

I am trying to make it to Monday - I have two fairly Big and Tricky Things to finish at work before Christmas break, and it's going to be tight to finish them before we go to the PILs on Monday. Plus not all Christmas presents are bought yet (including the H....), and there is complicated packing to do because after PILs we fly to my parents in my home country without going home first (hopefully not too outing!).

So this is the plan, really: buy presents; pack; pack some more; empty fridge ahead of travel.

Aria999 · 18/12/2024 23:59

Today DH and both have come down with the cold that the DC have had all week. Basically managed to do a day's work but feel feeling very bunged up and groggy.

Still need to do some dusting and acquire a few more stocking fillers as I have an uneven number of things for each child currently

WinterFrog · 19/12/2024 07:59

Hello! @FourSeasonsLobelia really sorry about the family situation 💐
Hoping you get to be lurgy free by Christmas @Aria999 🤒 It's doing the rounds here as well.
I missed all sorts of things here, sorry. I hope your sister is doing well @Peridot1
All go in your houses @SpiritOfEdna and @SingleThreadJoiner!

Big hello to everyone else 👋 @Mumtobabyhavoc and @RunningKatie no doubt youngsters are running you ragged...

And hello sandwich sister @petalpower 💐

And anyone I've missed! I read the thread daily but don't always join the dots. Head full of puddin' ( quote from an old favourite kids movie!)

Volunteering this morning. Great for clearing the head! Then a house reset, before a Christmas dinner out this evening with friends. House reset involves putting things away so I can hoover. I might even dust!

Best get to it!

Peridot1 · 19/12/2024 08:53

Morning all.

I was up early and thought about taking a leaf out of @WinterFrog’s book and actually do something but I’ve just sat on the sofa drinking tea and eating toast and done my NYT games. Although I have emptied the dishwasher while waiting for my toast. And I found a basket to store my soap stash so I did that.

We are supposed to be going to a black tie dinner tonight but not sure how DH is feeling. I can hear him coughing. I absolutely refuse to be sick. Not happening. Germs can bugger off!

I’m back at the dentist this morning for a chat about next implant surgery and I will do some last bits of Christmas shopping.

Yesterday someone came and picked up most of the dog beds etc for a dog rescue. I sorted out a pile of DVDs which I will take this morning to charity I hope. I did a charity shop drop off yesterday and they took some but not all of what I had.

Today - charity shop with DVDs, some boxes to garage, clean downstairs loo and hallway including mopping floors. I was going to do DS’s room but I think I will wait till Saturday and get him to do it with me.

Have a good day all.

FourSeasonsLobelia · 19/12/2024 10:31

Refusing to be sick made me laugh @Peridot1 My dad does the same. And tbh, it seems to work!! He has the ability to send colds packing before they take hold. It;s hugely impressive!

Hope the next implant surgery goes well.

Are you horse volunteering today @WinterFrog ? Uber envious. Smile . I might look at some horse /stable work in the New Year. Lord I miss horses. I always thought about carriage driving now i am too scared to ride. My New Year's resolution is to try 5 new things. I already had clay pigeon shooting and falconry on the list.... a carriage driving session might be the business. Smile

Festive hugs to all our lovely Projecteers.

SpiritOfEdna · 19/12/2024 12:35

@Aria999 he only had a little white van, so I didn't bother asking. The doors are finally all in. It's not going to get old for a while yet being able to shut my bedroom door properly 😄 The old doors are now out the back. They wont fit in my car even with the roof down, so I will need a man with a van - new year now, although I will be able to get rid of the door frames. Come home yesterday to find a picture that I re-hung the night before on the floor and glass shattered all around it and SpiritDoggo cowering at the top of the stairs. So that was fun clearing up all the shattered glass.
Today

  • some more xmas shopping - when I say more, I've barely done any thus far
  • last day in work, interviews over, offer out and hopefully will be accepted and we may be able to deliver something next year
  • need a complete to do list - things keep floating in and out of my head....
  • finally got hold of some pecan nuts this morning, I've been to every shop in a 3 mile radius and found a packet by rummaging round the JS shelves so can finally finish baking today
  • source a supplier of replacement glass/acrylic for frame.
  • As per usual, started this hours ago! Have a good one, SoE
WinterFrog · 19/12/2024 14:59

@Peridot1 if it makes you feel any better, I was mostly sitting on my arse from 6.30 - 8 this morning. Like you, NYT puzzles. I like Tiles too. 40 today, should anyone be interested. Can't do strands. Gratitude list and a read.
@FourSeasonsLobelia yes, horsey things. Just what the doctor ordered, with some family members being quite contrary just at the moment. Fresh air, exercise and pony breath. Never leaves you does it. Like a virus! I like your idea of new things to do next year. I'd love a (pony) driving lesson. There is a lady locally.... I took up juggling a year ago. I can do five circuits with three balls on a good day. It was on a Michael Moseley podcast about looking after your brain. Found an excellent tutorial on YouTube. Currently I'm working on a project which has required me to get more tech savvy ( ie zoom calls and printing things and spreadsheets) It's a fun learning curve. That's probably enough for now.

Stop @SpiritOfEdna you're tiring me out 😂 You achieve so much! Congratulations on the properly fitting doors. We have one that needs adjusting actually. Has a bit of a clunk.

I am going to go and polish my bath taps. I do love a shiny tap! I may also clean the bath. When the sun shone into the loo I noticed the floor was dusty ( separate loo and bathroom) So I shall mop the floors. Go me 😂

No need to consider dinner tonight as all members of the 🐸 household are out. Separately. We know how to roll. I'm planning to leave everything ship shape as I'll be home first and will just crawl into bed. Bed and a book. Bliss after an evening of being sociable.

I quite fancy writing a list. But first, the bathroom!

Hello to everyone. Days are flying by. 😵‍💫

OP posts:
SydneyCarton · 20/12/2024 13:01

Small admin stuff here - deleted a bunch of old work emails, and have gone through the school calendar and written down all the relevant dates/events etc for my DC so it's all in one place

SpiritOfEdna · 20/12/2024 13:57

Morning - am supposed to be on a day off... went to an Advanced RefPilates session this morning, oh my days, it was intense. Got back to car and now driver's window won't close - wrong time of year for that to happen.😄The motor is groaning away. I've managed to do some of my list whilst going backwards and forwards.

We have visitors later so I am multi tasking cleaning everywhere. I am giving myself till 14:30 to finish cleaning. I'll know when I'm hoovering I'll be nearly done and then I can walk SpiritDoggo.

  • bathroom - bath/sink/toilet cleaned and unit polished. Put all toiletries back on shelves etc. DONE Just floors to mop now
  • tools back in shed and lock shed back up DONE
  • living room - empty christmas decoration boxes to be put away and then a good hoover of sofa and floors, the tree is shedding at an alarming rate so all the pine needles need to be hoovered up
  • kitchen - wash dishes and put away (done) left - clean worktops and floors to be hoovered and mopped
  • stairs - need to be hoovered (DONE)
  • finish decorating tree
As per usual, I've started (hours ago) and now I'll finish. Hoovering finally in progress. Sibling on way home from work to help finish off, so maybe SpiritDoggo will get that walk after all, SoE
FourSeasonsLobelia · 20/12/2024 17:02

That is a terrific idea about writing down all the school dates in a new diary @SydneyCarton . I am really hopeless at that and rely on being reminded by e-mails- which is a flawed strategy. I'm going to do that tonight.

Hope the visits go well today @SpiritOfEdna Shame about the car window!

I am feeling better today but did not manage to do alot. I did watch youtube vidoes about being organised for christmas though.... Hmm

Tomorrow when DH takes the Dcs swimming I am going to Tesco to pick up stocking fillers. Then DH is meant to deliver the christmas cards by hand.

Hope everyone is well and fine. Thanks

SydneyCarton · 20/12/2024 18:43

Thanks @FourSeasonsLobelia. The school are actually very good at sending out a comprehensive list of events and dates at the start of the year but I don’t need to know when the reception nativity play is or the Y5 trip to Westminster Abbey because I don’t have kids in those years. I put everything that relates to my year groups on a new page in my bullet journal (does anyone else do these?), plus I did a separate one for DD2s cross country training sessions for next term.

Might even transfer them to the main family calendar/planner thingy if I’m really bored before school starts 🤣

FourSeasonsLobelia · 20/12/2024 20:04

I have just finished inputting from our school calendar! It only goes up until the end of Easter Term so far (it's via the parent portal which I tend to access only to book in supper clubs). But I have discovered some things I would like to attend like a parents coffee information morning (and that a residential clashes with a proposed family trip away - which I can rearrange), plus when the various mufti days are. I am feeling very organised! DS1 is also heading to London apparently for a Tower of London trip which was news- but forewarned!

Thanks for the idea. Smile
I have not yet got to grips with bullet journalling. But i really love a list and i really love stationery.... Grin

Otherwise i have been gently plotting two bigger projects for the new year. One is a garden project - we have a bit of empty lawn and I am thinking of putting in a circular rose and lavender arbour with some sort of plinth in the middle. Very fancy for a midterrace strip of back yard but I think I can make it work....

The other is I want to turn the spare room into a proper walk in dressing room. I have been making do with portable storage solutions but think i might need to think about getting in a joiner to make a proper wardrobe space etc.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 20/12/2024 20:51

Another option @SydneyCarton @FourSeasonsLobelia is to put everything in your calendar on your phone with two alerts. I set one a week in advance then either one or two days in advance. That way nothing creeps up.

Did a small Costco shop this morning. Planned to arrive at opening, or shortly before, as it is so busy now with Christmas a few days away. Didn't get out the door until after 10:30am, though. Got yelled at about a parking spot a guy thought was his because he stalked the person walking to their car that happened to be in the aisle I was sitting in. Luckily another person was leaving so we both got a spot. But. Words were exchanged.
You can't follow someone up one aisle and down another and claim their spot. 😠

Just making some pasta to go with the chicken I bought for lunch. Going to take dc out after we eat.

Peridot1 · 21/12/2024 10:47

Morning all.

Ive had interactions like that in various car parks over the years too @Mumtobabyhavoc. So annoying.

Glad you are feeling better @FourSeasonsLobelia. Laughing at you watching YouTube videos of being organised for Christmas. I spend ages watching reels on Facebook about people cleaning!

Yesterday I tackled our hallway and gave it a good clean and did the floor. I recently bought the Dyson floor washing machine and it’s fabulous. Not cheap but will eventually pay for itself as I’m now the cleaner! Was then planning on getting another job done but a village dog went missing so went out to help look. Dog was found outside its own back door of course!

Today we are tackling DS’s bedroom and bathroom with his help. And I’m going to continue sorting the stuff I took out of my bathroom drawers last week. Plumber is back on Monday so won’t put much back as he needs access but want to have a good sort out. Also need to finish cleaning my room which I started in the week. Dressing table left to do.

And I might wash kitchen/dining and sitting area floors as it’s so easy now!

WinterFrog · 21/12/2024 13:43

It sounds like you've made real inroads into decluttering and deep cleaning @Peridot1 Not bad considering you've been having work done.
I'd find the car park situation very disturbing @Mumtobabyhavoc I hope you had a calming time out with the children 🎅 (if that's even possible?) Littlests in our family are about ready to burst with excitement now they've met Santa ( several times in different settings)
You make me grin @FourSeasonsLobelia I am much the same getting excited when i achieve any serious adulting!
I'm trying to keep track of mum's activities/appointments/needs as well as keeping up to date with what other family members tell me, and my own commitments.
I keep a handle on it on a week by week basis but I really need to start a proper diary as it's handy to be able to look back to see time frames. Would be helpful for mum's situation as I'm asked how/why/when from time to time. Good call @SydneyCarton!

Have had a lovely relaxing morning with family here and now it's all gone quiet. So I will set the place straight then curl up with a book I think.
Have a good weekend everyone 🥂

Mumtobabyhavoc · 22/12/2024 05:07

Winter, dc have also seen Santa everywhere. Havoc sat with me and baby and Santa for a picture a couple days ago finally. I was starting to give up in the idea of a Santa pic with Havoc.
Was out last night looking at Christmas lights. Was a late night made later as once home and out heat in I soon discovered something starting to burn in the heat register. Baby gad stuck a padded fabrib glasses case in it and it Errand today for baby's birthday, wrapped baby's Christmas presents and got 2 large loads laundry done. Hoping to get Havoc's presents wrapped plus baby's birthday presents wrapped tomorrow.

Morning all.

Gorgeous morning here and I am about to head out for a walk to deliver Christmas cards around the village.

This morning I have already cleaned the fridge in preparation for the supermarket delivery which has arrived and is all put away. I changed DH’s bed. Have a load of DS’s washing on. Put two loads of my laundry away. Emptied the dishwasher. De-clogged the waste pipe in my bathroom.

Yesterday DS and I tackled his bedroom. He put his laundry from last week away (baby steps!) and stripped the bed and cleared up all the rubbish/recycling/glasses in the room and I vacuumed and dusted. Just his bathroom to do now. I also vacuumed and washed the floor in the dining area.

Still to do today:

  • card delivery
  • laundry
  • quick nip into town to do a few things
  • Vacuum and wash floor in sitting area
  • vacuum living room
  • clean and oil dining table
  • put a picture up in the living room

Hope everyone is coping with the festive preparations and not feeling too frazzled. Remember to take some time out if it all gets too much.

I must've been nursing baby and typing with one thumb for this post. 👆 It didn't make much sense, did it? 😂

After I put the heat on I smelled burning and discovered a fabric-padded-glasses-case melting and black in the heat register. I opened the window and put a fan on facing the window to try and extract the smell. I left it like that, door closed, all night and slept in the couch. 😵‍💫

Just doing more laundry, bedding, vacuuming mattresses and under beds. I think I've now caught dc's cold.

Hello all, flying by - I did manage to hand in the project on the very late evening of Friday, wooo! Have been to the panto with D and H today (v good) and all packed, hoping to set off before 9 tomorrow morning as fearing traffic (driving cross-country to PILs...) - tomorrow morning just need to clear out fridge, empty bins, hopefully change bedding so we come back to nice clean bedding. I doubt I'll be online much during the break so wishing you all a very merry Christmas and productive - but not tooo productive - New Year! xxx
