Hope you are doing ok @WinterFrog and the chilling out in bed made you feel better!

petalpower · 11/12/2024 20:45

Your DH sounds like an absolute star @WinterFrog . Hope your reboot has helped and tomorrow is a better day. Flowers

WinterFrog · 12/12/2024 07:37

Morning! Thanks folks. Much better today and ready to take on the world again!
I hope you all have a productive and happy day 💐

SpiritOfEdna · 12/12/2024 13:39

Today

  • SpiritDoggo walk - DONE
  • SpiritDoggo flea tablets - DONE
  • can't face a speed awareness course, so have paid speeding fine (DONE) and send off driving license details - TO DO
  • wash a load of vases - did at the weekend but looking at them they still look smeary and filthy.
  • try and work out where the joiner doing the doors tomorrow (hurrah!) will be able to work so may need to clear some space somewhere....
  • refpilates tonight so need to dry gym kit and socks
  • try and find a baking tin to make brownies in - I had one which has vanished. I know this means looking in lots of cupboards to see where (and why!) it has been stashed away......
  • need to pick up a c&c before pilates of Very Important Flea Spray
  • need to check that the guys doing removals next door haven't taken my bike as well as the neighbours 😃
  • switch over subscription for PT to new bank details - all have gone awry since changing bank - DONE
  • make a food shopping list for next week or so.
That's all for today, have a good one, SoE.
Peridot1 · 12/12/2024 15:13

Afternoon all.

Glad you are recovered @WinterFrog.

I won’t tag everyone or will be here all day but have caught up with everyone’s posts.

I was back at dentist today for a CT scan in preparation for next implant where tooth was extracted in October. He also was able to see that all of the infection in the root canal I had done has cleared up. The residual pain I have is just inflammation and will subside. So that’s good! Not looking forward to the implant procedure but it won’t be till January so I will think about it then.

Like @petalpower I like to get a few jobs done if I’m out and about which I did yesterday - two pairs of trousers to be taken up, two bags of Xmas decorations to the charity shop, Brita filters and used batteries to recycling in Sainsbury’s while I picked up a parcel and I took my phone to be repaired as I thought I’d cracked the screen but it was only the screen protector that had cracked so got a new one fitted. Love a trip where I get a few things done!

After the dentist this morning I did a bit of Christmas shopping and went hunting for a topper for one of our Christmas trees. Failed in that but did buy a nice candle holder.

This afternoon we got a few things ready for a charity furniture collection tomorrow morning and did a bit more sorting of Christmas decorations. Am determined to finish it all today and get all the boxes back upstairs ready to go into the loft at the weekend.

Will potter about a bit more in a bit.

FourSeasonsLobelia · 12/12/2024 15:36

Great news @Peridot1 . Glad @WinterFrog is back to fine form as well.

Thanks to all.

Not much to report here. My arthritis is playing up badly in the cold. I had to visit the school today to talk to the SENCO about DS1 and GCSEs and his delightfully charming late 20-something form teacher had to help me down the stairs which was an unexpected highlight of the morning. We were both just laughing at how crap my walking is and it gave me a much needed lift as i had not been laughing much before that.

DCs finish for Christmas tomorrow. I am so so excited. It's become a bit of a tradition for DH and I to take them out to our local Italian for lunch and then to come home to watch a Christmas film.

I send all our local Daily Projecteers (and lurkers!) much love and unMNetty hugs. You all give me a lift daily.

WinterFrog · 13/12/2024 07:45

Fingers crossed for the bike @SpiritOfEdna Sounds like you have a handle on doggo's fleas?
Good news about infection gone @Peridot1 Sounds like a productive day!
I love your way with words and ability to add humour to a painful situation @FourSeasonsLobelia 💐 Enjoy your festive traditions with DCs today!

Must get Christmas tree up and decorated today. Have a handful of cards to write and deliver by hand. And book a hair appointment.

Dh is off today so it feels like a weekend. He's still in bed watching videos by the sound of it, and I've done some exercises (tai chi) morning puzzles (7, on wordle 😔) and some journalling. Plus folded some laundry. Feels like a good start!

FourSeasonsLobelia · 13/12/2024 08:11

Wordle was hard today I thought @WinterFrog !

I'd forgotten about the hand delivered cards. I think that has to be DH's job as i am not up to walking about that much.

I have some prescriptions to pick up today (and hoping for some pain relief for my arthritis). Also hope to focus on our sitting room today. It's a mess. I can do it while watching netflix though until our lunch out.

I hope everyone has a lovely day!

Peridot1 · 13/12/2024 09:14

I was a seven on Wordle today too @WinterFrog. So annoying.

Sorry you are struggling with arthritis @FourSeasonsLobelia. Hope you manage to sort your pain relief. Someone I knew from DS’s old school moved to Australia for her arthritis as it was so debilitating in this climate.

Lovely tradition to do lunch and a Christmas movie the day the DC’s break up. Enjoy.

Im off to the gym for a PT session in a bit. Then after it’s final decorating - just hallway and landing to be done. BHF are coming to pick up some pits for charity - a tv and a tv cabinet and some other bits. And then I want all Xmas decorations boxes up into the spare room and I’m planning on cleaning the hallway and doing the floor. It feels like it’s been a mess for months. Also need to do usual laundry etc and change a bed.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 13/12/2024 09:21

Fourseasons, you must have arthritis quite badly. I'm sorry to hear it, must make day-to-day challenging I imagine.
No Christmas cards being sent this year here, Froggy, as Canada Post workers are on strike. It's been a month now. I'm the only one I know who sends cards, though.

Heading to bed at 1:15am. I can report I got into the storage closet today. Spent about 90 minutes taking everything out, looking for two items, couldn't find, but vacuumed and put everything in more neatly. I'm looking for my new laptop (still in box) that I bought over a year and a half ago. And a canvas Presents from Santa bag. No luck on that one either. 😬

Have been lurking on the thread for a while (although I think I was on a previous version ages ago - Lobelia was BlueLobelia then I think?) but am jumping in because I have actually accomplished a project after a lot of faffing. Yesterday I applied for TFL Zipcards for my three children (to be fair, the website has been down for months so delays are not entirely due to my faffing) and they have all been approved and will be despatched ASAP. I even remembered to buy lanyards as well.

Not sure what today's project will be - the Christmas booze arrived in the Tesco delivery so I might count that Grin

SingleThreadJoiner · 13/12/2024 14:08

Good luck @Aria999 with the treasurer job - it's such a big responsibility! I rather enjoy volunteering for events and rallying my class parents but never actually taking responsibility for planning said events...Christmas disco tonight 🎉🎧and everyone big and small is very excited!

@FourSeasonsLobelia I do hope that rest and medication do their job, and @Mumtobabyhavoc that your laptop reappears!

I have TWO impressive achievements to report, we have taken the Christmas decorations down from the loft, and I have bough the gift cards for the teachers' presents - so glad to have that done.

And yes was it @WinterFrog who asked - I did find a lovely blanket from Dunelm, it's got a bit of turquoise as well but it looks quite mermaidy so hopefully it will pass 😊

Welcome @SydneyCarton !

SpiritOfEdna · 13/12/2024 14:25

@SydneyCarton 😄well done on that project
@FourSeasonsLobelia - sounds painful.
@WinterFrog keeping our fingers crossed re fleas! Dog is flea free 😄
I have had a nightmare today with the bank. I switched accounts and on my old account had a large cc payment due to come out on 16th Dec. On the credit card online banking I changed the payment to minimum amount about 3 weeks ago ( just for the December payment) but the old account large amount was tried for today on new account and I was very confused as I thought it was a scam transaction. Anyway, all sorted out now but it took some time..... I was already regretting switching banks!!!! My day off no longer feels like a day off.
Today's not really a list of things to do, but a collection of whines 😄

  • joiner is here and it is VERY noisy but I might have a bedroom door tonight
  • just done another interview. That one was a no
  • need some ingredients but am trapped in the house till later on
  • I literally can't think because of the noise 😄
  • we've also realised the joiner isn't disposing of the old doors
  • SpiritDoggo is at groomers tomorrow so she'll need a good brush tonight
  • I hope sibling brings wine home from shopping. They have escaped.
Have a good day, SoE
WinterFrog · 14/12/2024 16:25

Hello @SydneyCarton and welcome 💐

@SingleThreadJoiner i hope disco was fun!

We've had a cheerful littlest enjoying our tree, and the little nativity scene that we bought last year. We're keeping it low key here for all the reasons, and it's been very relaxed so far.
Mum's nursing home on the other hand....things going on daily, ALL the lights, huge tree and generally lots of fun and none of us have to lift a finger! The staff are an exuberant bunch!

Back to work for a rest on Monday @SpiritOfEdna 😂

I'm currently looking at the most gorgeous sunset, across roof silhouettes. We live on a hill. Brings to mind the chimney sweep scenes in Mary Poppins.

Dinner's bubbling in the oven. House is tidy as everyone's out and I did a whizz round to set things straight. Just got to wrap a few presents ( even the decoration boxes are back in the loft!)

And I've swept the patio and the area at side of house. Chilly out there!

Hope you're all having a good weekend 😁

petalpower · 14/12/2024 16:59

Welcome @SydneyCarton !
Your mum’s care home sounds fab @WinterFrog. My dad generally doesn’t join in with activities at his unfortunately which is a shame as there looks to be loads going on there. Last week there were belly dancers!!
Today I’ve:

  • washed and hoovered the car
  • delivered Christmas cards to the neighbours
  • wrapped DD’s stocking presents
  • bought the final presents online for DS who has finally let me know what he’d like
  • taken senior dog for her weigh in at the vets
  • put up two massive sets of twinkly indoor lights on the beams in the dining room
Now planning on cracking open the wine and sitting in front of the log burner watching the Strictly final whilst DS cooks dinner. Hope you’ve all had good days!
WinterFrog · 14/12/2024 17:47

Sounds cosy @petalpower I'm quite missing my DS as he is a better cook than me and did a couple of dinner while he was her. I sent him out to be a pot washer when he was 15, and before I knew it he was training to be a chef, though he doesn't do it any more. Got him halfway across the world though!
I did wonder how much mum would join in with the activities. She's doing something most days. It must be harder with dementia. Mum's forgetful and needs reminding and taking to things, but the staff are excellent and they know this.

petalpower · 15/12/2024 09:47

Having a slow start to the day here as on Sundays DH gets up and takes the dogs out which I have a bit of a lie in. Must get going though. Today I need to:

  • find the bottom of the ironing pile - it’s threatening to take over the utility room
  • make some progress on present wrapping
  • take DS to the station and pick DD up from the station - 2 x 45 minute round trips and their train times don’t coincide obviously!
  • make a food plan for Christmas and make food shopping lists for Sainsbury’s, butchers and greengrocers

Have a good day everyone!

Peridot1 · 15/12/2024 13:39

Afternoon all.

i had a bit of a lazy day yesterday after a night out at some neighbours the night before. Definitely put me in a festive mood though and I’m determined to get all our decorating finished today and all boxes put back in the loft. And finish writing Christmas cards.

I went to a Carol service at church this morning which was nice. I’m not a regular church goer but I do love a Carol service.

It’s the anniversary of my sister’s liver transplant today can you believe? Don’t know where that year went. Sent her flowers from me and our other sisters.

Happy Sunday all.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 16/12/2024 06:22

Hi, Sydney. Welcome. ☺️
Single, how was the disco? Sounds fun!
SoE, do you have your doors?
Winter, glad things are good where your mum is. That's reassuring. You created a very cozy image with your description if the view and dinner. 🥰
Petal, sounds like you accomplished a lot and I bet your lights look great. 😄
Peridot, I love a carol service, too. I can't believe it's been a year now, too, for you sister. How is she doing?

Looked through bins in another closet today as still trying to find Santa bag and laptop. Will have to pull everything out of storage closet again before I go insane wondering if I really did look carefully, or not.
Managed two loads laundry, one being baby clothes and bassinet bedding I'm donating. Sorted dc clothes drawers and folded everything more neatly and put their clean clothes away. Did a grocery shop to Costco and didn't buy much, really, but fridge and freezer are full. It was so busy there, too, and I went around 5:30pm just a half hour before closing.

MumtobabyHavoc doors are not yet up - the new frames have been done, so he just needs to come back to hang the 5 doors - he said an hour per door. Not sure when he will be back, hopefully before Christmas.... I finally wrested the (real) xmas tree into it's stand yesterday. Once the joiner has come back and done the doors we'll decorate that in earnest. Slow work day today and not much to do in terms of tasks

  • start wrapping up gifts
  • make suet for mince pies
  • put tools back in the shed
  • need to find a man with a van to get rid of the doors and all the rotten wood from the frames
  • walk SpiritDoggo later
That's all for now, have a good day all, SoE
WinterFrog · 17/12/2024 07:01

Morning all! I was up bright and early and have folded some laundry from tumble dryer and mopped the kitchen floor.
Wordle ✅ (4) Connections ✅ gratitude list ✅ sticky toddler handprints removed from lounge window ✅ (Bit of guesswork with the handprints as it's still dark out, but I spotted them yesterday when the sun came out)
Am sitting in the light of my Christmas tree and a small lamp. Very cosy.
Quite a busy day ahead with an online meeting, meeting a friend for a quick coffee then taking mother to an in- house Christmas Fair.
Best wishes to you all for a happy and productive day!
Are all DC getting wild over Christmas? We have the finer details around Christmas werk all settled now with who'll be where. I'm calmly content about it all after a very chaotic year 🤶 🎄

Peridot1 · 17/12/2024 08:19

Morning all. I seem to have missed the thread for a few days.

Yesterday I had a spa day at a local five star hotel spa to use up some vouchers. I sat by the (indoor!) pool and read my book, had a lovely lunch and a glass of wine and then a facial and came home. Was nice to do but can’t see myself rushing back to do it again.

@WinterFrog - I have been up since early too but not achieved anything! Other than Wordle etc.

@Mumtobabyhavoc - sister is doing ok thanks. She’s relieved she survived a year!

@SpiritOfEdna - hope you get your doors fitted!

Today’s list:

  • laundry
  • chase person who is supposed to come and pick up dog stuff today
  • contact local hospice charity about dropping off some stuff
  • tidy and clean my bedroom
  • sort through a large basket of toiletries etc I had to take out of drawers in my bathroom yesterday for the plumber to be able to access under the sink. How many bars of soap does one person need???
  • clean my shower

@WinterFrog - no children to get excited for Christmas here sadly. No major plans as it’s just the three of us on Christmas Day. I do miss the excitement in the house with children. It’s definitely not the same.

Have a good day all.

FourSeasonsLobelia · 17/12/2024 08:36

Hi all- sorry, have had a rough few days and have lost track. But welcome to @SydneyCarton ! I WAS BlueLobelia a few threads back. Smile

This is so outing for anyone who knows me IRL (but tbh lately pretty much everything I have written has been!) but our christmas trip is postponed for a bit. We have a very sick family member here so DH feels he needs to stay and he is quite right. We'll probably go at Easter now.

Now I need to start a UK based Christmas planning from scratch! Gotta love Amazon Prime! Took the Dcs ice skating yesterday and we got into the Christmas spirit a bit.

I love the idea of a gratitude list @WinterFrog ! I might treat myself to a lovely piece of stationery (my favourite thing) and start one as well.

Love and hugs to all. Hope everyone and loved ones are well!

Peridot1 · 17/12/2024 09:00

I’m sorry things are tough right now @FourSeasonsLobelia. And that you have have to postpone your Christmas trip. Hugs.

FourSeasonsLobelia · 17/12/2024 09:07

Thanks @Peridot1 . It's been a blow but we definitely need to be around here for a while so that's fine.

I'm having a quiet day though. DH has a streaming cold and my throat is funny so we have a nice plan of netflix, eating the German salami and cheese platter we bought yesterday plus pretty much all of the Christmas chocolates. I've already put forward the concept of mulled wine but DH can't taste much so it might be an heroic solo effort on my part. 😋
