Morning - back to boring jobs today.

  • replace toilet seat - DONE
  • hoover downstairs now we've swapped mud for sand 😄- DONE
  • make a batch of granola - short of a few ingredients but everything else all weighed and ready
  • walk SpiritDoggo when it stops raining though
  • My bedroom door fell off one of it's hinges - am debating new door as I had a go at sanding it this morning but it still looks a cheap and nasty door. The architrave needs replacing - the wood looks a bit manky and rotten. Door is off the frame now, no way of keeping SpiritDoggo out at night 😃
  • Hoover upstairs
  • now all the November birthdays are done - start thinking about xmas
  • try and book SpritiDoggo in with dog groomer now she is flea free.
As ever, started writing ages ago, must go and Get Things Done, SoE

Hi all.

Dental adventures continued with a root canal this morning. I’m having the best time! 😂🙄. Cheered myself up afterwards with a visit to my favourite clothing shop to buy a blouse I had my eye on. Bought it and a bit more!

Started the Christmas decorating at the weekend. Did the outside lights and planted my plants in the planters. Then yesterday we got all the boxes down from the loft. It’s earlier than I normally do it and I’m slightly regretting it now. Taking my time and not actually putting the trees up until later in the week.

Today:

  • load of laundry
  • put laundry away
  • clean kitchen
  • wash kitchen floor
  • put a tv up on local Freecycle site
  • decide what to do with tv unit - charity pick up or freecycle
  • start some Christmas cards

@SpiritOfEdna - we have a door going spare! Shame you are not nearby. Although it probably wouldn’t match you other doors! Actually I should try to get rid of ours somehow.

have a good day all.

SingleThreadJoiner · 02/12/2024 13:44

hahahaahahhaa @WinterFrog tempting as that is, actually just today's....I think there can be....unpleasant....consequences to bingeing on licorice 😅

Mumtobabyhavoc · 03/12/2024 08:10

Peridot, shame you had the root canal now and not in January... whatever will you look forward to in the New Year? 🤨 You get the medal for your list on top of the unpleasant dental visit. 🏅

I put lights up on the deck and sorted all the others. I have too many. Tree tomorrow.
Did two loads laundry: Christmas jammies and ski gear (not that I'm skiing now, but am prepared for snow/sledding with dc). Then put washer on tub clean.
Made a pizza after dinner meant for snacking while doing the lights tonight, but somehow it didn't cook well on the bottom, so into the garbage it went (over cooked on top). Then dug out oven thermometer to check oven temp (a wee bit off), but I think the issue has to be the bottom element.
Cleaned bathtub. Washed bathroom floor. Vacuumed. Put decos away. Had bath. 🥱

Morning. Another day of interviews today. The last interview we did, the interviewee was late, did not go on camera, sounded as if they were reading a script, which was fine for 'tell us about yourself' bit as you warm up, but we thought there was some googling going on for some of the other questions and reading off the screen; and then asked, at the questions at the end, what job they were interviewing for..... not sure how they got through initial screening :-) HR said afterwards that it wasn't uncommon with examples of reflections of google in people's glasses, lips moving but someone off-camera speaking. The joys of 'not in person' interviews 😄
Anyhoo, today

  • granola finally made - DONE
  • measure door/s for replacement - DONE
  • one gym session - DONE
  • hoover up and downstairs
  • dishwasher is back on the fritz - hand wash dishes
  • just got a letter re speeding post dog's walk on Sunday grrr; I've done the yes it was me driving bit, and now I wait.
  • order a replacement carbon monoxide detector - ours was going mad with beeps indicating it was end of life battery
  • am going to a Sherlock Holmes thing at the weekend - need to revise 😃
That's it for today, off to check my hair is camera ready 😄 have a good one, SoE

Oh don’t worry @Mumtobabyhavoc - I have saved another implant surgery for January! 😩😄 That will hopefully be the last of the invasive stuff. 🙏🙏🙏

Back at dentist this morning for removal of stitches from the last implant surgery. Then some Christmas shopping and a haircut. Came home planning on doing some more of the Christmas decorating but got dragged out to Tesco by DS to help him do some filming for one of his brands. Which was fun.

We have way too many lights too @Mumtobabyhavoc. And decorations.

Oops @SpiritOfEdna - a speed awareness course for Christmas for you maybe!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 03/12/2024 18:49

Oh, geez, Peridot. Been through a lot of that myself. Sympathy!!! 💐

OP posts:
SpiritOfEdna · 04/12/2024 12:14

@Peridot1 - poor teeth.

Someone came and measured up doors & frames this morning - the last (hopefully) remaining half-assed DIY done by previous owners gone. It's only taken 19 years 😄They've all got the wrong sized doors....
Today

  • wait (patiently) for a quote for the doors - also got him to look at a shelf that had been put up incorrectly by a handyman a while back.
  • walk and bath (later) SpiritDoggo
  • empty cupboard in prep for moving it later
  • there's a pile of filing looking at me #notmorefiling
  • more Sherlock Holmes (what a chore!)
  • cook a joint of ham - in oven
  • put dishes away
  • more hoovering
Busy work day, more interviewing. Yesterday's was such a shame, I couldn't follow what the interviewee was saying - was talking way too quickly, and when I had tuned into their voice, they obviously had the experience we are looking for. Have a good day all, SoE
Peridot1 · 04/12/2024 12:36

Morning all.

Monday’s root canal tooth has decided to be painful which isn’t much fun. Hoping it settles. The dentist helpfully said I might have no pain or lots of pain and either was normal. Was hoping for the no pain option!

Today:

  • laundry - done - just need to hang now
  • dishwasher/kitchen tidy - dishwasher done, reloaded and on again
  • put laundry from yesterday away- done
  • wash sitting area patio windows - done
  • put up Christmas tree in sitting area

I stupidly put the Karcher window vacuum on an upholstered chair and it leaked so I need to dry the chair out and remember not to sit on it today.

I’m sure there is more I need to do!

Aria999 · 04/12/2024 20:33

Sorry to hear that @Peridot1 hope it improves

Today has been hard work. So much housework and I am really not feeling it.

I have managed to:
Change sheets and towels
Vacumop kitchen floor
Realize kitchen floor is still dirty and get down on hands and knees and scrub kitchen floor
Clean and tidy kitchen

Not much to show for a day, unless you count too much lurking on Mumsnet. I just find housework So Boring...

newrubylane · 04/12/2024 20:37

I have cleared out the kids toys in preparation for the incoming Christmas presents. My living room hasn't looked this tidy in months. 🥰

petalpower · 04/12/2024 21:09

Why is Christmas approaching so quickly? I’ve got so much to do!
We've been away for the past couple of days visiting elderly PIL (FIL just out of hospital after a week), and doing care home visiting for my dad and stepmother. Back home tomorrow. Managed to drop off Christmas presents for various family who are close to here and briefly catch up with my brother and SIL.

WinterFrog · 05/12/2024 06:54

All so very organised! And busy!
I was told mum's care home would label her clothes but no sign of any labelling yet! We've got her room looking a bit more homely though.
I have received the Christmas wish lists I asked for so will get on to those today.
It's reasonably clutter free and tidy round these parts now so I've got stuck into some deep cleaning. Feeling quite smug 😂
It will never be show home standard though!

WinterFrog · 05/12/2024 06:58

Also good morning and hello everyone! Welcome @newrubylane 👋 My lounge was never tidy when I had children at home. Now we just get trails of destruction when the GC and GN visit, but it's only temporary 😂

FourSeasonsLobelia · 05/12/2024 07:01

Morning waves. Welcome @newrubylane and sympathies to @Peridot1 .

Dashing in and out to say hi. Leaving in 5mins for work so just wanted to send my good wishes to everyone. Thanks

Mumtobabyhavoc · 05/12/2024 07:40

Evening, all. It's 11:30pm. I'm sitting in the dark except for tv and Christmas tree and lights. Just unwinding.
Was out with Havoc in a suburb, Langley, for a walk around looking at lights at a movie set. It was worth the drive, but I'm beat.
Have managed to go through some boxes from nightmare closet and consolidate a few. 🥳
Found a reciept I needed in one of the boxes. 🥳
Went through a storage bin of dc things and purged some clothes for donation. Now have three full boxes of clothes to go. 🥳

Need to get back into closet, take out boxes and sort further. Looking for two items.
Have a good day all. Going to brush teeth and get to bed. 😁

Here's the link for the place we went.

I dug into one of the closets while dc were napping. 🥳
Emptied 2 bins, filled one box with clothes to donate, repacked some and rearranged bins when I put them away. Also threw away some old clothes and took a few emptied cardboard boxes to recycling. Will get into storage closet over the next few days. I'm on a roll!
Have now got 2nd load of laundry on.

FourSeasonsLobelia · 06/12/2024 08:09

That looks amazing @Mumtobabyhavoc ! What a terrific idea- dressing a movie set for Christmas! I love that.

I have a fairly busy day ahead. I need to;

  • go to the pharmacy to pick up medications
  • go to the GP to order new medications
  • ask surgery if I can please pretty please have a covid jab. I am technically not eligible, but I have a couple of autoimmune diseases and asthma so am hopeful
  • change all the bedclothes
  • sort out visas
  • take our next door neighbour to a hospital appointment because his car is at the garage
  • catch up on washing and ironing
  • check our travel insurance because I need to add a new health condition on it
  • general household duties
  • cook a roast chicken dinner for the family. My favourite marinade today- orange juice, honey and cinnamon for the chicken
So a bit of dashing around and a bit of home stuff and a bit of other stuff

Hope everyone has a lovely day!

WinterFrog · 06/12/2024 08:47

Morning all! I looked at your link @Mumtobabyhavoc and it does look like fun!
Busy busy day @FourSeasonsLobelia! I take it the work project's all wrapped up now?
I really need to order some new curtains so must do some measuring!
Christmas present shopping has been done. Well, ordered...

Usual stuff to do, but the measuring, buying a stamp and booking a dental check up are the small projects that i plan to have achieved by lunchtime.
I hope you are feeling better today @Peridot1

Peridot1 · 06/12/2024 09:13

That looks lovely @Mumtobabyhavoc. Very festive.

That’s quite a list @FourSeasonsLobelia!

My tooth is infected and I ended up back at the dentist yesterday. Am popping painkillers and counting down the time till I can take more. I’m now on two antibiotics. He had one ready to go and then when he looked in my mouth decided we needed to go hard core as he put it. So added in another one. He said I should start to feel better within 24 hours. Fingers crossed. As I really felt awful yesterday. Face is swollen and have a couple of lumps come up on the gum.

House is a mess. I managed to do a load of laundry yesterday and that was about it.

Aria999 · 06/12/2024 12:10

Oh no @Peridot1 😟 that sounds awful. I hope he is right and you feel better soon.

I have a small work project to do today for my client in Canada. The Christmas tree is also arriving! DH is out so I need to see if he minds us doing it without him.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 06/12/2024 12:14

Oh, no Peridot! I'm sorry. Must be so painful.

OP posts:
WinterFrog · 06/12/2024 12:46

That sounds absolutely miserable @Peridot1 DH had a similar infection recently, and it knocked him sideways. He is vulnerable to them due to medication that he's on.
All I can say is, go easy on yourself! Don't do any more than you absolutely must!

I appreciate that I am not your DH, @Aria999 but I can say that if i got home and someone else had done the tree, I would be absolutely delighted! ( Though not if they'd put flashing lights on it!)
There's a house nearby that has identical Christmas trees in each window ( 4 in total seen from the road) and a garland around the stair rails. Beautifully done and very pretty, and the lights on each one are on the setting that go mad with the flashing every now and again. So if, eg, someone did that in my house I could be moved to inflict violence 😂
I have done all projects except pick up a stamp. That will be later!

Peridot1 · 06/12/2024 14:34

Thanks for the sympathies everyone. All I can say is thank God for antibiotics! I’m feeling a lot better. Still aches a bit but I’m not clock watching to see when I can take something else. I’m actually getting pain relief for longer than an hour or so.

And a bit of trivia. Alexander Fleming lived in our old house in Somerset at one point apparently!

SpiritOfEdna · 06/12/2024 14:46

Hello! There are signs around me that IT is happening - various christmas things are being hung, placed around fireplaces. I am a bit giddy today, a project that I've been working on for 2 years(!) has had Move 1 into production. now onto the hard bit of end to end business process testing. The interview debacles continue. Latest interviewee didn't turn up and we found out that they had been admitted to hospital - now rescheduled. My Sherlock Holmes event for tomorrow has been cancelled because of forecast high winds.
Today's list:

  • chase joiner for door quote - DONE and scheduled in for late next week
  • find debit card so I can re-do my Prime subscription (the horror of being a day without Elementary & football 😄) - DONE
  • catch the neighbour to hand over a parcel - DONE
  • do a load of washing - bedding and gym kit
  • pick SpiritDoggo up post her walk with sibling
  • pootle around tonight doing christmassy things
  • need to move dining room table and chairs into back room temporarily so we can have a christmas tree in the kitchen. It's only a 4 seater so fairly light and small
havoc - my sibling would be in heaven with that event.

That's all for today, as per usual, started early on my list, SoE
