Ooh where are you off to for Christmas @FourSeasonsLobelia ? Sounds nice! Also that's amazing re boiled potato. DS also has food issues, I doubt he will ever eat any kind of potato other than fries (I struggle to get him to eat fries).

Pool heater shows no signs of being fixed. DH persuaded them to agree to refund the resort fee last night though we will need to make sure they actually do it as they are a bit ditzy, they already tried to double charge us the resort fee.

It's been warm all week so the pool may eventually be usable unheated , fingers crossed 🤞

Hope the car gets fixed soon @petalpower ! I have become very American in that respect and would be lost without my car.

Yay to real food @Peridot1 !

lol @WinterFrog re sitting on sofa with glass of wine instead of hoovering behind it, that's what I would have done too. Happy cobweb bashing!

petalpower · 27/11/2024 18:02

I am pretty lost without my car too @Aria999 as we live very rurally so rely on driving. Car has been to the garage and they think it’s an intermittent fault with the boot mechanism affecting the light clusters. Lights are working again at the moment so I’m keeping my fingers crossed it won’t happen again.
Horrible cold rainy day here and both dogs decided they didn’t want to go out for a walk this morning whilst it was torrenting down. Wrapped some Christmas presents, caught up with the Bake Off final and did a menu plan and online shop for next week.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 27/11/2024 18:11

Lobelia, did the earplanes work?

OP posts:
FourSeasonsLobelia · 27/11/2024 18:34

I have used them for a long while now and they work incredibly well. I used to think they were just a placebo, but then tried them for myself and they really do. You put them in about 40 minutes before landing. And you can get a few sizes. I am a bit evangelical about them tbh!

www.amazon.co.uk/Earplanes-11201-Adult-12-Years/dp/B0000C1KT4/ref=asc_df_B0000C1KT4?mcid=b3db0a80eec5383898b884b4fa2ef2de&tag=googshopuk-21&linkCode=df0&hvadid=696385640860&hvpos=&hvnetw=g&hvrand=11031861203393458885&hvpone=&hvptwo=&hvqmt=&hvdev=c&hvdvcmdl=&hvlocint=&hvlocphy=1006992&hvtargid=pla-420142663646&psc=1&gad_source=1

FourSeasonsLobelia · 27/11/2024 18:47

You can get from tiny kid sizes to adults. I found adult sizes too big for me so the Dcs and I have kids sizes. [neat little teeny ears do I have.. :)

Will be back later .... the pre-cleaner visit frenzy is about to start!

Thanks
Mumtobabyhavoc · 27/11/2024 21:55

Good info Lobelia! 😀 And "yea" to the potato victory, too!
Aria, glad you have a resolution of sorts. 👏

SingleThreadJoiner · 27/11/2024 22:06

@FourSeasonsLobelia congratulations on the potato triumph!

Thank you for the good travel vibes, H did indeed make it home yesterday. Which is just as well, because after a smug afternoon of easy wins like paying afterschool club and checking that I wasn't going over my credit card limit, we had A Very Dramatic Evening with the shower upstairs leaking through next to the light fitting downstairs and onto the floor 😱

Luckily it was drip drip drip rather than gush gush gush, and we have the fuseboard set up so we could just switch off power to the downstairs lights, but it was Rather Stressful for a while.

This morning the plumber came round and sucked his teeth a lot and said 'Oh. Oh no. Oh dear' a lot and it looks like we're ripping out the shower tray and replacing some rather rotten/soggy floor underneath - thanks to failing silicone sealant and dodgy/shifted drainage thingy that allowed water to go everywhere else. On the plus side, we are allowed to use the lights (except in the room where the water damage is) and we don't have to knock through the ceiling - probably.

On another plus side, looking forward to celebating Thanksgiving with some American friends! I spent some time in the US in the past and Thanksgiving food is very dear to my heart.

Peridot1 · 28/11/2024 09:49

Morning all. Very cold and frosty here this morning.

@SingleThreadJoiner - that definitely doesn’t sound what you need at this time of year but I suppose better now than on Christmas Eve! Hope it gets sorted quickly.

Happy Thanksgiving @Aria999.

Yesterday I had the bright idea that DH and I should go out for lunch which we did - just over to our local pub. Really nice and felt like a treat on a Wednesday afternoon. Came home and did a few bits in the utility room which is now pretty much done. Then started to not feel so good. Not sure if it was what I ate. So ended up in bed at 6.30. Dozed a bit and then felt ok. Got up again, ate some toast and watched some tv and went back to bed.

I also sorted some stuff out in the small spare bedroom as DS’s friend is coming to stay tonight for a couple of nights. Which meant sorting out stuff in the large spare bedroom too!

Today’s list:

  • dishwasher and kitchen tidy
  • vacuum and dust small spare room and make up bed
  • Clean DS’s bathroom
  • contact a dog rescue re donating our dog stuff
  • put up a couple of pictures in the living room
  • quick clean of my bathroom and main bathroom
  • finish sorting utility room
  • poss do some Black Friday shopping for some Christmas presents

Have a great day all.

SpiritOfEdna · 28/11/2024 13:26

hurrah for the potatoes! @FourSeasonsLobelia Happy Thanksgiving - I am also grateful for the two days holiday as many of my colleagues are on leave for the next two days and I can Get Things Done. My diary is so clear for the next two days I keep looking at it in amazement 😄
Today:

  • still on flea watch. We've carried on our hoovering/washing regime, so today I've done beds/rugs/sofa. Bedding is on a 90 degree wash.
  • yesterday had an upholsterer in to do some running repairs on the sofa - seams had come apart and I had tried to fix with normal cotton which funnily enough didn't work, plus fixing the underneath that puppy SpiritCoco chewed. She is too fat now to get under the sofa 😄
  • SpiritDoggo needs a couple of good walks and then a bath - One down - with lots of big dogs off lead scaring her - enough to make me look up the tide times for a beach she loves to swap her walks over to. Looks like it's a 6am start for me tomorrow.
  • back at refpilates tonight so the hunt for a clean pair of socks goes on 😄
  • we are having a shift around of furniture and artwork so need to make some decisions
That's all for now, as usual started post a million hours ago it seems, have a good day, and happy ThanksGiving to those who celebrate 😄, SoE -
WinterFrog · 28/11/2024 15:13

Happy Thanksgiving!

Argh @SingleThreadJoiner Sorry about your Dramatic Evening

6am on a beach @SpiritOfEdna ? Or up at 6? Rotten about bully dogs. Poor SpiritDoggo 😔

👋 everyone sorry not got the brain space for tagging without forgetting someone but wishing you all well 💐

So much going on around here I'm not quite sure which way is up. Mission cobweb is complete and I've moved the sofa so the sticky carpet is next, only two days late...

It's lovely weather today! Cold and crisp. The winds have made the trees look a bit wintry though. Feeling more festive as the nursing home has a galleried hall and they are decorating in a big way!

SpiritOfEdna · 28/11/2024 15:22

@WinterFrog up at 6am to take her - it’ll be quiet on the roads 🤞 at that time although it will be dark…..

FourSeasonsLobelia · 28/11/2024 20:08

Love the idea of a frosty beach walk at 6 am..... I have a day off tomorrow so possibly.

Happy Thanksgiving!!!!!

Thanks for the encouraging words about boiled potatoes! Grin Next I am aiming for cooked carrots....... 🍴

I hope you are feeling much better now @Peridot1

I am almost finished with my Christmas cards. And dragged out my carefully stashed Boxing Day Sales toy purchases from last year which are ready to be allocated to various children as this year's presents. I am quite pleased with what I got last year- I have by happenstance covered everyone- including the new great-niece baby that has yet to be born!

I had a brainwave to swap around the crap in one spare room with the crap in another (larger) spare room which will mean one gets to be a sort of walk-in wardrobe / ironing room and the other will be a linen storage room. These 'spare' rooms are supposed to be the DCs play room and my study but are actually the Rooms of Doom.

@Aria999 we are going to Australia for Christmas. extended family live there and it will be 25 years since I have spent Christmas there. People are becoming older and much more frail so we need to go. I am in no way ready for the thought of the long trip and how to transport (or not) gifts! I have high hopes of a Boxing Day bbq Grin

But I will sign off for now and send all the Daily Projecteers Thanks and💘. Hope you and all your loved ones are well, safe and happy.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 28/11/2024 20:22

@FourSeasonsLobelia definitely send prezzies ahead! Either Amazon directly to recipient and option for wrapped or post asap. Don't add to your stress by trying to carry with you: chance of forgetting something, lost, damaged, extra fees anyway etc.

An Aussie Chrissy barbie sounds awesome!!! 😃😃😃

Aria999 · 28/11/2024 20:32

Happy thanksgiving to anyone else who celebrates! It is also DH birthday today.

We had a lovely guided kayak tour through the mangrove tunnels in the morning, only slightly spoiled by DS being in a monumental strop for reasons mostly unknown but it may have been because they originally let him stand up in the kayak and then changed their minds...

Now sitting by the pool which is more or less warm enough to swim in (still pretty cold) and also has people coming by and offering to serve drinks which is very civilized.

Kids will probably get too cold soon but until then...

FourSeasonsLobelia · 29/11/2024 05:39

Happy Birthday to @Aria999 's DH!

Kayaking through mangroves sounds lovely. Smile Sorry about the DS strop! You will probably find he remembers it as The Best Day Ever... at least that is how it often goes for us while I am lying weeping on the floor in despair!

I have joined the insomnia team. bed at midnight and up at 4. I really want to start a washing cycle but no-one else is due to be up until 6 am!

I am hoping to present wrap today, write lists and batch cook. And fulfill my new mantra 'Don't waste time'. Tomorrow we are visiting a Christmas market and plan to go ice skating so I want to really get on top of things today.

Hope everyone has a great day!

WinterFrog · 29/11/2024 06:55

Good morning! A beautiful one for an early walk. I have compromised by going out in the garden to look at the stars.
@Aria999 Your holiday sounds epic except the pool. My children also had their moments. I vividly remember having one of my own actually. I was about 5 and I was Too Hot and it was Too Far! Tbh I tend to feel much like that when I'm hot now. DD tells me I have sensory issues. I also got ragey (via a series of stroppy texts to DH) when his dd used fairy laundry capsules AND conditioner then hung laundry up in the house and the Utter Stench woke me up in the middle of the night ( I do not respond well to chemical scents and poor Sd did not know this!)

@FourSeasonsLobelia you have inspired me! As do you all 💕 I began reading The Miracle Morning last night, and i started today with Wordle silent sitting/meditation, then listed things I'm grateful for, then some positive affirmations, then stretches and tai chi, then 10 mins reading the book. I missed out visualisations because not sure where to start, so I've made a coffee and will think about that.

I moved the sofa and vaccuumed behind it yesterday evening. At last! A declutter of clothing is on the cards for today, and a rummage in the freezer to see what needs using.

Have a great and productive day everyone 💐

Peridot1 · 29/11/2024 13:52

Hi all.

Late today as have DS’s friend here and he was up and chatty pretty early (which was lovely as DS is definitely NOT chatty) and we did Wordle together. Then DH and I braved Costco. Spent an awful lot of money but have loaded the freezers with meat for months and I got a few Christmas presents.

Contemplating a quick trip to the garden centre now. Someone is supposed to be picking up a large footstool I put up on FB yesterday but has just realised it won’t fit in her car. I’m not sure it will fit in many cars to be honest so that could be a problem!

Jobs today - just did a quick kitchen tidy and surfaces wipe down. I need to vacuum - really getting out of the habit now without the dog shedding and meaning I was vacuuming every day!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 29/11/2024 16:55

Peridot, I'm curious about Costco there. The fact you said you had to "brave" it resonates. I tend to go 45 mins prior to close and it works quite well. The Costcos I've been to here have very different clientele. More polite at one, less shopping basket chaos; another is a gong show with almost everyone acting as if they sre the only ones there.

OP posts:
WinterFrog · 30/11/2024 09:37

Morning!
@Peridot1 it's nice when you get a chatty one isn't it? My DDs are chatty but DS takes a bit more work as he's the strong silent type. I have learnt that he is much more forthcoming if we go walking. Recently he's acknowledged that he does bottle things up a bit too much.
I cheated on wordle this morning and looked at the hints 😳
@Mumtobabyhavoc we don't have a costco in my area but at this time of year i consider any/all shopping as 'braving the crowds'. I rarely enter a supermarket as DH actually enjoys it.
Slow start here as we're entertaining littlest. She was a bit shy of Uncle DS as he lives abroad, but now he's funny Uncle and definitely the man of the moment.
This afternoon will mainly be clearing up the trail of destruction!

Hope you're all having a fun Saturday. I'm taling a breather and looking online for Christmas presents.

Peridot1 · 30/11/2024 09:57

@Mumtobabyhavoc - it was pretty busy! Busier than I have seen it before but it was Black Friday. We tend to get there for opening at 10am as we have the Executive Membership and DH likes to get his money’s worth with using the early entry! We had to queue to get to the checkout queues but it moved quite quickly really. Our closest one is about a twenty minute drive away so we don’t go that often. We tend to fill the freezer with meat. Most of the meat is pretty good quality we have found.

@WinterFrog - DS is the strong silent type too. His friend is great and we’ve known him a long time and he’s pretty good with DS and we tend to find stuff out when he’s here!

I ended up going to the garden centre yesterday and it was lovely. Like being in a Christmas grotto! Bought the plants I wanted and a few other bits.

The footstool wasn’t picked up yesterday as the lady realised it wouldn’t fit in her car. So someone else picked it up this morning. I think I put it on priced way too low really as had about 25 people interested in the end!

Electrician is here putting up lights over the dining table. I’ve done a bit of online Christmas shopping.

Today’s list:

  • change bed and wash bedding
  • clean kitchen - DH made a bit of a mess of the cooker last night
  • vacuum kitchen/dining area
  • start writing Christmas cards
  • drop Christmas shoebox off
  • post a parcel
  • take trousers to be shortened
  • plant the plants I bought yesterday

We were planing to put up the outside Christmas lights today but it’s wet here so that might not get done.

SpiritOfEdna · 01/12/2024 12:08

An unexpected encounter this morning while walking SpiritDoggo - HMS Prince of Wales on its way into Liverpool.

Daily Project Round 6
FourSeasonsLobelia · 01/12/2024 13:09

Oh wow! That is a terrific picture! I am very envious, I love looking at ships. Even the big tankers capture my imagination.

SpiritOfEdna · 02/12/2024 12:15

Morning - back to boring jobs today.

  • replace toilet seat - DONE
  • hoover downstairs now we've swapped mud for sand 😄- DONE
  • make a batch of granola - short of a few ingredients. Everything else is weighed out and ready
  • walk SpiritDoggo (when it stops raining though)
  • My bedroom door fell off one of it's hinges - am debating new door as I had a go at sanding it this morning but it still looks a cheap and nasty door. The architrave needs replacing - the wood looks a bit manky and rotten rather than a running repair. Door is off the frame now, no way of keeping SpiritDoggo out at night 😃
  • Hoover upstairs
  • now all the November birthdays are done - start thinking about xmas
  • try and book SpiritDoggo in with dog groomer now she is flea free. She is looking quite patchy where I've sorted out her knots out myself, lol she needs a professional.
Busy work day now all USA colleagues back after Thanksgiving, have a good day all, SoE
SingleThreadJoiner · 02/12/2024 12:24

Hello all, thanks for the good thoughts re: the shower leak - it looks like we might get away with just having to fix the shower tray itself rather than redoing a bit of floor...phew!!

@SpiritOfEdna sorry about the door!! But thank you for the lovely photo :)

Today I need to

  • roast some squash for dinner
  • notify afterschool club of a couple of timetable changes for this week and the next
  • pay an invoice

Have already: opened and eaten my licorice advent calendar 😆I hope you are all enjoying exciting and/or delicious advent calendars too!

WinterFrog · 02/12/2024 12:34

I saw that ship at Portsmouth @SpiritOfEdna It's huge isn't it? Great pic!

Also crikey! You have your hands full!

@SingleThreadJoiner ooh I love liquorice! Did you mean you've eaten the lot or just today's? 😂

I've got a bit lazy about cooking ( same things on repeat, so I've been looking at recipes this morning) Currently looking at a very dusty glass cabinet so shall deal with that.
