Hope your mum is okay and you too. 💖

And that everyone else on the thread and all loved ones are also okay. Thanks

FourSeasonsLobelia · 19/11/2024 20:46

@WinterFrog I read your post and read it that you got rid of tatty clothes after brushing the cat.

[Nods wisely]

My cat grooming sessions tend to be like that also.

Thank you @FourSeasonsLobelia that made me laugh out loud! 💐

Peridot1 · 20/11/2024 09:04

@Aria999 - didn’t have the ice cream in the end. Was falling asleep by 7.30 so just took myself off to bed.

@WinterFrog - that sounds like a very busy day. Just be warned - even with labelling MIL’s clothes constantly go missing. Her niece is constantly replacing things. And seeing MIL wearing other people’s clothes and others wearing hers.

Im a bit sore and swollen this morning but ok otherwise. Hoping to tackle DS’s bathroom for a deep clean today and his bedroom as he’s up in London. Other than that it’s normal kitchen/dishwasher sort out. Also want to wash a large glass candle holder. And finish staining a wooden dough bowl I bought to use for a Christmas display.

WinterFrog · 20/11/2024 09:35

Morning all! ☕
@Peridot1 don't overdo it! Make time for resting please. I wasn't far behind you with bedtime. Slept well and feeling more human.
This morning I missed the table with a full cup of coffee (yes, I was scrolling MN!) so there was carpet to clean 🤦‍♀️)

Steadier day here today. Says she hopefully. Message received about the likelihood of missing clothing @Peridot1

I think i have a plan to clean a couple of window frames today.

Have a good one everyone 😊

petalpower · 20/11/2024 20:18

Hope your tooth/mouth is settling @Peridot1 .
I echo what others have said about labelling clothes for care homes @WinterFrog . For auntie I labelled literally everything with laundry markers. I found white ones quite handy as well as black. I did initials and room number. Haven’t managed to do my dad’s yet as I’m not local but my brother said he got busy with the Sharpie! The company I used for auntie also made clip on labels that you could use to label tricky items like knitted blankets. Don’t forget to label shoes too. I got into the habit of taking photos of new clothing.
The days seem to be whizzing by here. I started on the Christmas card writing yesterday as DH doesn’t involve himself in the task and I’m trying to avoid having to send so many by post. Stamps are so expensive now. Managed to buy presents for family that we’re visiting at the beginning of December.
Sorry being a bit rubbish about tagging everyone else. Hope you’re all ok.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 20/11/2024 22:01

Just a quick pop-in... googled best clothing labels and saw several on Amazon incl this one:

@WinterFrog - I took your advice and didn’t do too much. A few random jobs.

@petalpower - it’s a bit sore and quite swollen. I’m a bit chipmunk like on one side!

Yesterday I did some washing, cleaned the top of the cooker and put the racks through the dishwasher, finished staining my dough bowl, washed and polished some hurricane lanterns, washed the windows either side of the front door plus the inside of the door. Sounds like a lot but it was in chunks. Also chased the electrician and he is coming next Saturday to put the lights up over the dining table. Oh and booked to the the ovens cleaned.

Today’s plan:

  • usual kitchen and dishwasher tidy
  • Ds’s washing
  • Deep clean DH’s room and change the bed (he snores so we do separate bedrooms)
  • deep clean landing
  • maybe start sorting small spare bedroom
  • pack charity shop stuff into car to take tomrorw

Have a great day all.

Hello all, I can't keep up, I've not read back again and my house is still chaos.
I've made myself a plan of weeks to Christmas with jobs per week. Not finished last weeks yet.
I need to message the decorator to chase for a price and date, then we need to buy paint. We've decided to wait till after Christmas to sort furniture, but I'm hoping I can at least buy some new curtains one weekend.
Hope everyone is well, and keeping warm, we've still got some snow from Tuesday but it's super chilly as well.

Aria999 · 21/11/2024 18:10

Good luck @RunningKatie !

How are you feeling today @Peridot1 ?

I had my flu and Covid shots yesterday and having been feverish all night, slept for most of the morning after dropping the kids off.

At crack of dawn on Saturday we are flying to Miami so I definitely need to pack, but maybe tomorrow!

Aria, my two had 39c+ fevers after theirs, too. Better today, TG, as we're doing a Christmas event later.

I’m much better today thanks @Aria999. Although the liquids only diet is a bit boring now! Especially as I have to blend soups and then sieve them to make sure there are no tiny bits. I have had ice cream though! And yoghurt. Only four more days to go to real food……..

Hope you feel better after a good nights sleep. I missed my flu and covid jabs somehow. Must chase.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 21/11/2024 22:08

Hello, I'm lik @RunningKatie overe here:
Hello all, I can't keep up, I've not read back again and my house is still chaos.

I was at my parents' for two days at the start of the week, and got some decluttering done there, so that felt good - even unearthed a few things that will be useful for Christmas presents / PTA donations and the like. Does everyone have a box of Potentially Useful Gifts for Unknown Recipients or is it just my family?! Husband went to the tip with a mattress and some other assorted items while I was away so that was useful too.

We've now switched over and he's at HIS parents for five days while I hold the fort down (thank you, lovely babysitter who keeps up afloat!) - will focus on getting some laundry done, and some healthy food periodically into the child, and that will have to do. We have hairdresser booked for Saturday afternoon - both she and I sorely in need of it!

WinterFrog · 22/11/2024 08:44

Hello all. Lovely to 'see' you again @RunningKatie and @SingleThreadJoiner

@Aria999 and @Mumtobabyhavoc sorry you and yours felt rough after vaccination. Our littlest had flu vacc last week and also felt grotty with a high temperature for a couple of days.

Sympathies @Peridot1 💐 Hopefully worth it soon!

Well apparently the nursing home deals with name taping! I'll take note of the photographing suggestion though @petalpower I need to arrange to get mum's house valued today. I've contacted royal mail about stopping junk mail to her house. And a couple of companies that send catalogues. She gets loads! Might do same for here as it always goes in the recycling anyway. There are a lot of 'little' things that need doing, but they add up.

👋 to everyone else!

FourSeasonsLobelia · 22/11/2024 09:12

Morning everyone. Hope you feel alot better really soon @Peridot1

Hope all the little ones feeling awful after vaccinations are alot better soon too.

Thanks to everyone.

Bitty but busy day today. Walk with a friend. Pick up raffle prizes that have been donated for a local charity from a kind donor who is housebound. Deliver a birthday gift to a friend who had had a hip operation on her actual birthday poor thing. Finish off the tax paper sorting (in front of the tv) and do some batch cooking. Nothing too strenuous, and it will be nice to be inside in the warm.

Hope everyone is fine and well. xx

petalpower · 23/11/2024 09:35

Ouch @peridot - hopefully you’ll feel a bit less sore soon.
When is your mum going to the care home @WinterFrog ? Will you be able to visit easily? That’s one of the things I find hard about dad and stepmother because I can’t just pop in when they’re 3 hours away and dad no longer has a mobile phone so I have to rely on my brother FaceTiming when he visits.
That sounds like a successful day @FourSeasonsLobelia . I like days where you achieve lots of little things.
It’s really miserable here today after some very cold but sunny days and I’m feeling a bit blah about Christmas this year. Normally I love it and we tend to have a houseful but everything is different this year and it will just be me, DH, DS and DD for Christmas. First year without care home auntie who died in May and the first year with dad and stepmother in their care homes. I’m going to give myself a bit of a talking to and count my blessings.
Have a good day all.

Peridot1 · 23/11/2024 14:40

Thanks for all the best wishes. Had a bit of a panic yesterday that I was developing an infection in the wound as I felt a bit ropey and headachey and shaky. Got an appointment with the dentist for this morning to check but woke up after an early night and a really good night’s sleep feeling completely fine so I think it must have been a bug. Swelling is going down in face and I can open my mouth more. Am mainling immunity boosters to ward off anything dodgy!

@petalpower - it’s completely understandable that you are feeling blah about Christmas this year. It’s a big adjustment and comes with a lot of sadness. I get sad at Christmas now too as it’s usually just the three of us. I miss the years we either went to Dublin or had family come here. My sis and her family come for NY for a few days and we all really enjoy that. But Christmas is just not the same.

I am still in the midst of deep cleaning the house. Didn’t get much done yesterday except a charity shop drop off. But this morning I did DH’s room, put away three baskets of laundry in DS’s room and am about to finish the stairs and landing. And maybe the hall way.

RunningKatie · 23/11/2024 15:31

Saturday afternoon and I've just about recovered from a fab and fun night out with friends.
We have a potential cleaner coming on Mon eve so I need to make the house more presentable, the decorator is being evasive to the point that I'm contemplating doing it myself.
FIL has agreed to surrender his driving licence, such a relief, although I will feel better when the car has gone from their drive.
Today I've purchased festive snacks for the cupboard. Now to hide them from myself.

WinterFrog · 23/11/2024 16:03

Hello! An MN afternoon for me as everyone else is out despite the wild weather. Didn't it turn quickly?

👋 @FourSeasonsLobelia I hope you didn't get blown away on your walk!
@petalpower this Christmas will feel very strange for you 😔 We haven't planned anything but mum has now been accepted into a nursing home so there will probably be something going on there. I will continue my grinchy ways and keep it peaceful.
@Peridot1 I'm glad the possible infection settled! I can't help wanting your DS to put his own washing away, sorry. I know we all run our homes differently though 💐
@RunningKatie well done re FIL and car. That takes skill and patience.
The more I hear about cleaners the more I'm glad I don't have one. I can't imagine letting anyone have that much access to my home. Though i have been a cleaner and wasn't ever judgemental. Although as I have decluttered my tolerance for the clutter of others has worn thin ( which is why I don't do it any more)
Calm before the storm here with mum's move, a visiting DS and a couple of big meetings next week. So I am loitering on the sofa and attached to my phone like any teenager! Listening to the wind howling and the rain lashing. Grateful to be comfortable and warm!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 23/11/2024 18:16

Good morning everyone. ☺️
Just want to add my support to those looking after family, missing family and having mixed emotions about Christmas. Me, too.
😔

Peridot1 · 23/11/2024 21:17

@WinterFrog - oh don’t worry- I want DS to put his own washing away too! But he doesn’t. And I lose my laundry baskets as they just stay on the floor in his room and he uses them as his wardrobe. It’s my own fault. I should have done it differently when he was younger. My cunning plan now is to bring his clean washing to his room but put it on the bed and take my laundry basket away. I’m sure it will all just end up on the floor but that won’t be my problem! We are letting him settle into working life and after NY a chat will be had about doing stuff for himself.

Aria999 · 24/11/2024 01:36

@Peridot1

Get a 'clean laundry basket' for DS room. Decant clean laundry into it.

Leave room.

(Sell his actual wardrobe on eBay).

Aria999 · 24/11/2024 01:37

@RunningKatie get some other quotes. Then ask the decorator if he actually wants the job or not...

Mumtobabyhavoc · 24/11/2024 05:02

Confession: no headway today. Just hung out and watched a movie, lazed about, finally got moving and took dc out. Having a late dinner of snacks. Donuts to follow. Watching The Crown from the beginning again before I get into the recent two seasons that I haven't seen. DC are still up. I've just told them it's Saturday and running indoors is not allowed on Saturdays and that they know that. (Sometimes I show the time and say X isn't allowed at X o'clock or we might get into trouble.) Look of confusion. Fast walking ensued. I also am known to quote the Mummy's Handbook of Rules for Children. Followed by, You see? I have to follow the rules so I don't get into trouble. Mummy wants to get a star. 💡💁‍♀️

OP posts:
Peridot1 · 24/11/2024 09:26

@Aria999 - can’t sell his wardrobe as it’s built in! At great expense this summer!

But actually I might designate one of the laundry baskets as his and just put it in his room. When it’s empty he can fill it with his rubbish and bring it down. Good plan!

@Mumtobabyhavoc - a lazy day is a requirement at times. And I love your Mummy’s Handbook of Rules for Children! What happens when they want to read it though?

So yesterday I deep cleaned DH’s room and vacuumed the stairs. Including getting all of the dog hair off the bottom step where the dog used to lie against. Didn’t do the hallway but will do that today. And I’m going to wash the other bedroom windows upstairs in the rooms I haven’t deep cleaned yet while the basin and Karcher is up there already.
