[Dashing in quickly.... ]

Love that ad, @WinterFrog

Hope everyone has a good day

[dashing out again as need to be at work early this morning...]

Thanks
Peridot1 · 13/11/2024 09:17

That does sound a magnificent amount of getting things done @WinterFrog.

I did some behind sofa cleaning yesterday too. Was switching some lamps from the sitting area in the kitchen/dining room to the living room and had to pull out the sofa to unplug. Also did the walls. I’ve been watching cleaning reels that come up on Facebook (sad life that I have!) and saw someone using a Flash mop with a dry cloth on to wipe down walls and it tried it and was amazed at the dust. I haven’t found the Flash mops that good for the floors as they flip when I use them but it was good for the walls.

DS helped me sort his room yesterday so that looks a lot better. Of course now I have lots of laundry…..

Today’s list:

  • towel wash - on
  • tidy off dining table
  • move boxes from dining area to hall
  • usual dishwasher/kitchen
  • money transfer from Euro account to main account
  • finish DS’s laundry
  • bedding wash
  • ironing

Im out for lunch too today which will be nice.

Have a great day all.

SpiritOfEdna · 13/11/2024 11:19

@WinterFrog 2 days to new medication. We think her old spot treatment was getting washed off as she is always in the river on her walks. Her new medication is tablet form.

Today:

  • I found the paperwork I was looking for yesterday when I was tidying my desk - win win 😄Did what I needed to do with it, so all good.
  • Need to dismantle a dining table and set of chairs ready to be picked up by local council. Hopefully they'll find a good new home for them
  • Bikes are back in the house, need to put them back out 😄
  • Need to print off a letter, clean off my walking boots and then send them off for re-soling. I think this has been on a previous list and not done - the boots are in a box 😄, but am planning on walking some of the Camino Way next year, so I'll need my boots to start doing a bit more walking. Lol, might splash out on new laces.
  • Same with my trusty down jacket - zip needs repairing and it needs a professional clean so will sort that out today
  • Need to finish (well start) another work course.
  • I've managed to lock myself out of online banking for credit card. Why do they call something a 'magic link' ?! It doesn't make any logical sense whatsoever. Need to sort.
  • my mind is feeling very flighty today - I am getting easily distracted and need a work list as well 😄
2 hours since I started this post, I've managed to sort out the boots/coat/course items. Have a good one, SoE
petalpower · 13/11/2024 16:39

I know the advert you mean @WinterFrog !
Quite a productive day here chez Petal. I did a trip to Waitrose and Sainsbury’s to buy food related Christmas presents so feel a bit more on top of things now after doing this plus my online M and S order. Nothing for DH, DS or DD yet but they are not so time critical. Father in law is very difficult to buy for so I need to come up with a bright idea for him somehow. I’m getting a photo book made up for my dad using photos from his childhood and early life. Photobox have one of their 50% off events again so I need to get organised with that. Junior and Senior Petaldog’s advent calendars arrived today but I haven’t sorted out the ones for DS and DD. They love the Hotel Chocolat ones and I was hoping to find some sort of deal on them but no luck so far. The box of Christmas wrapping paper, ribbons, tags and cards has been sorted and is now ready for action.

Peridot1 · 14/11/2024 09:24

Morning all.

I got almost all of my list done yesterday other than the ironing and DS’s washing but I will try to get that done today. It’s not a lot so won’t take long. Oh and the bank transfer is complicated- at least my brain cant figure it out so that is still ongoing.

And my Kindle is on its way back to me after I left it on the plane last week on the way back from Boston. Happy about that.

Today’s list:

  • usual dishwasher and kitchen tidy
  • finish DS’s laundry
  • bedding wash
  • general tidy around for new cleaners - especially my bedroom
  • find a dog rescue to pass on dog beds and toys and towels
  • start charity shop bags as seem to have a few piles of things dotted about that need to go
  • start a cookery book cull as my collection has outgrown the two bookcases it’s in
  • sort through a pile of magazines that probably need to go

Have a great day all.

SpiritOfEdna · 14/11/2024 12:05

Morning.

  • labels for coat clean arrived - need to parcel up and drop off at post office with boots
  • Picked up RugDoctor machine this am and have been moving furniture around so I have a clear run at all the rugs and sofa. I have a rough plan of when we are doing beds/sofas/rugs/stairs in and around work.
  • found a company that will do sofa repairs in your home so need to contact them today - DONE
  • need to get gym kit washed and dried for RefPilates tonight - IN PROGRESS
  • I am looking at very dirty blinds. If I take my glasses off they look pristine 😃
Right will go and dismantle some furniture, have a good day, SoE
WinterFrog · 14/11/2024 13:28

Hello!
I'm having a peaceful day here. Out of the house for most of the morning, and now holed up for the rest of the day. DH is away for work for a couple of days 🎉 (I do love him really but it's SO NICE having the house to myself and the cat!)
I'm about to have lunch and then I intend to write a list so the day is not wasted. I think I might watch Rivals while I'm at it! It's so bad it's good 😂 Like the books. Read Tackle recently.
@SpiritOfEdna we used those tablets for cat, and he got the trots, just as a heads up. But he is a sensitive little flower. Do you mean the Camino Way in Spain?

I have several of mother's nighties draped around the house. I shall be glad when she's at the nursing home and they can do her washing. I do have a suspicion that there is going to be Much To Do very soon though. And I'll wish it was just a bit of washing!

I am a Christmas free zone I have decided. Precisely three festive things planned for December. I think I will put a tree up for the sake of littlest, but otherwise unless DH has a fit of enthusiasm that'll be it. He won't, so I'm safe.Littlest gets quite overwhelmed ( family trait, that) so hopefully she'll appreciate a peaceful refuge from Christmas mayhem like we do here ( she's not with us on CD anyway) I imagine we'll get all the Christmas spirit anyone will ever need at the nursing home - it looks that sort of place. I do sound like the Grinch I know, but I'm happy for Christmas to take place, just not in my house thank you very much 😂 My siblings are the same!

Loving the snapshots of all your lives as always 💐

Right, lunch and list!

SpiritOfEdna · 14/11/2024 13:52

@WinterFrog yes I do, (think Camino Way was the name of the travel company I was looking at) although am dithering between doing the Camino Frances or one of the others, my original thought was to do the Portuguese coastal route, but having second thoughts about that one. As I will be travelling solo, I feel doing one of the more busier routes would be prudent (there was an article in the Guardian about the Camino de Santiago & sole female hikers which put me off a bit), so am still pondering; but I can get myself walking whilst thinking.

RunningKatie · 14/11/2024 21:28

Evening all! I've not managed to catch up but I'm still here. Tonight I've ordered a couple of Christmas gifts, I've been wiping kitchen doors down every time I put the kettle on. They do look a bit better.
Busy work day tomorrow, then bottomless brunch at the weekend.
Hope everyone is ok, there seem to be some fairly grim bugs doing the rounds here at school and work. Trying to dodge them all.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 14/11/2024 23:06

Spirit, sounds like an adventure! I'd live to do that, too!
I'd vote for Portugal as I'd to visit, I'm sure all sections are amazing. 👍🤗

Flipped up couch to apply felt pads to bottom of legs only to find already done. 🤦‍♀️ Washed floor instead, then put couch back.
Moved kitchen garbage away from newly painted wall as noticed a couple of marks on wall from it already. 🤬
Sorted section under a counter, washed floor and wall, moved garbage bin there.
Applied felt pads to bottom of chair in bedroom, wiped down floor.
Noticed a ding on wall corner in hall/entrance when I already touched up 2 last week. Will try to ignore for a while. 🤬
About to take Havoc for haircut. Made eggnog earlier and had an eggnog latte. 😋

Morning - had a busy couple of cleaning days post picking up the rug cleaner: 1 sofa done, 3 x rugs done, stairs & 3 beds. and the machine taken back. Coaxed SpiritDoggo into having her new medication by smearing it with peanut butter 😄and it looks like it has worked #fingers&paws crossed and she is now 2 flea free days. I am already looking forward to getting back into bed tonight - am tired 😪The house has basically had it's christmas clean which is useful as we have a little visitor - my littlest GNeice is visiting today - we are busy child proofing the house

  • upholstery guy has responded to email so waiting to sort out a time to come and look at the sofa - very reasonable quote too.
  • spent all my birthday gift cards - that was hard work 😄
  • another long walk and bath for SpiritDoggo later - she went to the beach yesterday and lovely ti so need to check out tide time.
  • Need to start getting stuff ready to take to Cornwall 😄
That's all for today, SoE
WinterFrog · 17/11/2024 07:48

Hello! A proper solo hike sounds wonderful, and I appreciate your safety strategy@SpiritOfEdna

👋 everyone else 😊

Chugging along here. Have achieved some fairly ruthless decluttering, a couple of cleaned shelves and a nice clean fridge. Today I mean to wash the kitchen floor. And we're going out for an airing this afternoon but not decided where yet!

FourSeasonsLobelia · 17/11/2024 07:59

Morning all. Have spent a few days sorting out paperwork for our taxes. DH is in charge of actually putting it all together (He was an accountant once upon a time).

Also hoping for an airing this afternoon. Maybe to our local Stately Home for a look around and a slice of cake.

Best wishes to everyone.

SingleThreadJoiner · 17/11/2024 08:34

Good morning all and fingers crossed @SpiritOfEdna that the fleas are properly banished!! What a hassle!

We had a thrilling House Things day on Friday, H and I properly tackled the room of horror and part of the runner up room of horror, resulting in two bags for the charity shop, one for the textile recycling, a big rubbish one, another large one of things posted to Olio or local WhatsApp groups, taking things to the dry cleaner, and some medicine to the pharmacy for disposing of. Phew! We were exhausted, although it was satisfying to see the tidier rooms.

Enjoyed the Blackpool Strictly last night, my reward after a busy afternoon out with D and a gaggle of friends and parents - ending up with three of them (plus parents) spontaneously coming over to ours, luckily the house was presentable thanks to the previous day's efforts!

Happy Sunday - quite sunny over here for once!

Peridot1 · 17/11/2024 08:38

Hi all. Hope everyone is well.

Having parted ways with yet another set of cleaners I’ve decided to give up and do it all myself. Starting with a mammoth deep clean of the whole house which will start tomorrow. I want to get it all done before we decorate for Christmas.

I have done a list by room.

Today I will start by getting the bags of charity donations together and into the car. And I might start the clean by doing the downstairs cloakroom. Quick easy job.

Curtains and blinds went back up in the living room yesterday which has made such a difference. Will get some pictures back up in there too this week hopefully.

Have a good Sunday all.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 17/11/2024 21:08

Peridot, how are you and family managing? Keeping busy can be a good tonic. 🩷

Admiring everyone's busy puttering. 🤗
I've cleaned and re-organized a shelf in my baking cupboard and have a 2nd tray of cookies baking. 😋

OP posts:
Aria999 · 17/11/2024 21:39

Good luck @Peridot1 , cleaners can be a bit of a mixed blessing can't they!

I am admiring all the decluttering activity!

At ours the house has done its normal lurch towards chaos that happens whenever DH is away (I can't tell how much this is because he tidies and I don't notice, and how much it's just that I make more effort when he's here - house stuff is mainly my job as he works full time and I don't).

He's getting back tonight so I need to fit in an emergency clear up of the downstairs hall and kitchen or I will be embarrassed!

WinterFrog · 18/11/2024 07:15

Morning all! Also admiring all the achievements ⭐
I'm attacking the under stairs cupboard today for when that is seen to, i can move some things that are currently piling up in the hall.
Got a fairly large item to the tip yesterday (not for the skip as they take odd bits of furniture to be sold if it's in good nick)

So what was piled on that also needs to be found a home....

Peridot1 · 18/11/2024 08:48

@Mumtobabyhavoc - we are okay thanks. House is very quiet without the dog. Although I’m not missing having to vacuum every day! We do miss her though.

@Aria999 - they can indeed be a mixed blessing. Having been a expat for years we have always had cleaners so I’ve been used to it. But it’s definitely a luxury and as I don’t work and have time there is no reason why I shouldn’t do it.

@WinterFrog - good luck with under the stairs. They do become dumping grounds!

Yesterday I didn’t quite get the charity bags to the car but I did move some stuff onto landing from spare room. And I deep cleaned the downstairs cloakroom. I’m also reorganising the utility room a bit now I have gained both cupboard and floor space from dog stuff.

Today’s list:

  • usual kitchen dishwasher etc
  • washing
  • put washing from weekend away
  • contact electrician
  • list furniture items we are getting rid of
  • deep clean main bathroom
  • I should empty some pots in the garden and fill the green bin but not sure I’ll get that done

Have a great day all.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 18/11/2024 11:23

Peridot, yes, must be very quiet. It's such an emptiness when routine is changed in that way. Keeping you in my thoughts. 💐

All awake here at 3:22am. DC wide awake, so cartoons and toast/milk for Havoc. Nursed baby and is playing now. 🤷‍♀️

OP posts:
Mumtobabyhavoc · 18/11/2024 20:42

I cleaned the filter of the hand held wand vacuum after vacuuming up crumbs from breakfast (kitchen to living room) 🤦‍♀️ then wiped the kitchen floor. Costco shop soon.

Peridot1 · 19/11/2024 12:32

Two bathrooms deep cleaned yesterday.

I had surgery on my gum this morning in preparation for an implant and am now pretty sore and feeling fragile so spending the afternoon on the sofa with the Christmas edition of Good Housekeeping and my book. I week of lukewarm soups to look forward to foodwise. And ice cream. I can have ice cream.

Aria999 · 19/11/2024 18:49

Aw @Peridot1 enjoy the ice cream, you deserve it! Hope the cold of it isn't going to hurt? Good luck with the implant.

WinterFrog · 19/11/2024 20:10

Ouch @Peridot1 That must be sore!

I have done a lot of driving today, plus made negotiations about mum's care. A lot of washing. Ordered nametapes. Updated mum's friends.
Car through car wash ( it was filthy!)
Made a vat of curry.
Soothed an upset family member. Brushed the cat. Got rid of partnerless socks and some tatty clothes.
Crumpled into a heap. Very tired! DH out so just going to set kitchen straight then an early night 😴

See you all tomorrow 👋

FourSeasonsLobelia · 19/11/2024 20:46

@WinterFrog I read your post and read it that you got rid of tatty clothes after brushing the cat.

[Nods wisely]

My cat grooming sessions tend to be like that also.
