Hi all. Events overtook us this morning and we had to make the decision to have T put to sleep. Her back legs just wouldn’t support her and she was struggling a lot. So a lovely vet came out and put her to sleep here.

WinterFrog · 09/11/2024 13:36

So sorry to read this @Peridot1 💔 RIP T 💐 Condolences to you and yours 💕

Aria999 · 09/11/2024 14:08

So sorry to hear that @Peridot1 😢 xxxx

Mumtobabyhavoc · 09/11/2024 16:52

Oh, no @Peridot1 💐 I'm so sorry. 🩷

Oh Peridot.

I know it is of small comfort but you did the right thing, and the fact she was at home is so so special.

We have had a few dogs that we did not do the right thing at the right time because DH simply could not make the decision and hung on too long. That is something I will always regret. The job of a loving owner is to do the hard stuff in a loving way. You have done the best possible thing at the best possible time and with love. Your darling girl was so so lucky to have you.

Hugs to you @Peridot1 And to your family. Hugs. and hugs again.

Much love.

RunningKatie · 09/11/2024 20:47

Oh Peridot, I am so sorry, such a difficult decision to make. It's so good that she was at home. Sending you unmumsnetty hugs

SpiritOfEdna · 09/11/2024 21:04

peridot ❤️

petalpower · 09/11/2024 21:31

So sorry @Peridot1 ❤️

Peridot1 · 09/11/2024 22:25

Thank you all. It’s been an emotional day.

@FourSeasonsLobelia - that was a big worry for me as I had seen that with friends. Realistically I think we should have maybe done it a few days ago but certainly DS wasn’t there yet. But this morning it was really obvious it was time. Until of course she got up easily and walked over to her new friend the vet. She hadn’t been able to get up on her own all morning. It is such a hard call to take though.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 10/11/2024 16:50

Peridot, how are you and family managing today?

OP posts:
Peridot1 · 10/11/2024 22:35

@Mumtobabyhavoc - we are ok thanks. House feels empty. I think we are all drained. I keep thinking I hear her. DH’s sciatica is still really bad from all the bending to help her up. He reckons gin helps…. 🙄. I did a bit of sorting out and cleaning where we had moved rugs around to try to help her as we have slippy tiles on the floors. But don’t want to clear too much of her away just yet. ❤️

SingleThreadJoiner · 10/11/2024 23:07

Big hugs @Peridot1 .💜

Mumtobabyhavoc · 11/11/2024 01:34

Oh, Peridot. 🥺 There's definitely a hole in your family's heart now. 💐
Are you keeping the ashes? Is that a thing there? I didn't realize it was a thing here until my friend showed me the ashes she and her dh had of their six departed cats. It was a bit Pet Sematary, but to each her own.
🤷‍♀️😁

OP posts:
Peridot1 · 11/11/2024 08:04

@Mumtobabyhavoc - we still have the ashes of our other dog who died about four years ago! Mainly because DS didn’t want to do anything with them so they are just in a cupboard. We will decide what to do with both sets once we get T’s back. I think we will scatter them in the field behind the house as T loved walking there and although our other dog was never here she’d have loved it too. Especially one particular corner which always has a big muddy puddle. She had a thing for muddy puddles!

Apparently you can get things made with the ashes but I’m not going down that route!

FourSeasonsLobelia · 11/11/2024 08:19

We have the ashes of ours as well. I understand about not wanting to clear things away- we still have the chewed teddy bear of our last dog who died 3 years ago in 'her corner'. I can't even wash it. Also their leads still hung up on their spotty dog coat hooks.

Thanks
WinterFrog · 11/11/2024 08:40

Thinking of you all @Peridot1 I recognise the empty house feeling. No doubt at all that you did the right thing but my goodness it's hard, isn't it?
We've managed to part with beds and food bowls now, but it took a while. We still have collars and name tags draped over photographs, and DH still has an urn from a dog I never met.

Hugs 💕

Mumtobabyhavoc · 11/11/2024 11:32

Peridot, what a lovely idea. 🩷

Hope everyone is well and fine. Hugs to all.

I had a burst of energy and did a load of ironing and now I am front of the tv with the aim to begin writing my Christmas cards. But I don't have the perfect pen I like to write with (left it at work) so have managed to put that off for another 5 weeks day.

Best wishes to all and your loved ones and 'see you' tomorrow. Thanks

WinterFrog · 12/11/2024 08:21

Oh my word @FourSeasonsLobelia that's really getting into the Christmas spirit! I have form for doing such things too, and finding a pile of unsent card around new year.
I have very few to send nowadays, as it's so much less of a thing. I send to people that i know still enjoy receiving them.
Glorious blue sky here! I plan on doing a spot of tidying in the garden today then I have a meeting at a nursing home this afternoon. I shall probably flick a duster around at mum's house. Did a whole load of cobwebbing at mine yesterday ( left the skinny 'cellar' spiders alone though, I like those ones)
Must pick up cat meds.
Hugs all round xx

SingleThreadJoiner · 12/11/2024 09:59

Good morning! I have been mostly lurking, but I wanted to belatedly report that at the weekend my D got overtaken by the tidying spirit and rearranged and cleaned out her craft area, down to scrubbing paint stains off her little table and chair - I don't know what got into her, but it was great! We manatged to throw out quite a few things, too, which felt good. Two in-person work days today and tomorrow, complete with overnight in London tonight, but on Friday I'll be taking the day off and the H are going to do All The House Things that need doing - wish us luck...

SpiritOfEdna · 12/11/2024 10:55

good luck @SingleThreadJoiner I have got a list!

  • On countdown for SpiritDoggo to have her new flea medication on Friday and then hoovering, mopping, cleaning sofas and beds and hopefully we will be done. She has never been so well groomed. 😄Poor doggo she never gets left in peace to have a snooze without having a flea inspection.
  • Need to find a couple of letters from bank - I've switched current accounts. Need to update Finance admin. Need to check that my new account has road/breakdown assistance so don't have to renew my additional one
  • Off to Cornwall next week for a flying visit need to get clothes ready - might also go for a dip in the sea (I say this every time and never manage to do it)
  • Need to hire a car
  • Need to have another wardrobe cull - there are some dresses that can go
  • Desk is a mess - so file all paperwork off it, books on bedside table, paint brushes cleaned and put away
  • New hob has been fitted and thankfully this one seems to work so back to eating proper meals
That's it for now - blooming life admin! Have a good day all, SoE
Peridot1 · 12/11/2024 12:02

Hi all

I haven’t even really begun to think much about Christmas @FourSeasonsLobelia - other than ordering the turkey and picking up a few things in Waitrose a few weeks ago. Then DH was doing an Ocado order yesterday and we noticed some drinks were on offer so stocked up on Bailey’s and Advocaat and a couple of nice bottles of champagne. That’s me sorted!

The guy who did the work on the wardrobes, display unit and living room wants to come tomorrow to take photos so I’m in tidying mode. I did the living room this morning just need to vacuum later. I did some of the display unit yesterday but it’s not really worked so I need to move some things around. And then I need to get DS help me sort his bedroom which is a bit of a nightmare.

Gradually clearing out the dog’s stuff. Gave all her excess food and treats to our neighbours yesterday - she will come back and haunt me! But I have gained space in the utility room cupboards.

Why is it that the house seems more messy now I am trying to sort it???

Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/11/2024 16:59

Peridot, you're already ahead for Christmas! 👏
Someone mentioned cards already... I do them, too!
No one else I know sends cards, though. 🤷‍♀️ I might get the odd one back when I send them, but last year sent none and got none. 😢

Sun is out here, but not sure it will last. Need to get to Costco then medical appt for 1:30pm.
Managed a tidy up and laundry last night, so can coast a bit today.

I’ve had a bit of a Christmas panic and have started on the master list! Also did some online shopping as we need to deliver Christmas presents when we visit the oldies at the start of December. Lots of family are in the same area. I don’t know where the last few weeks have gone.

WinterFrog · 13/11/2024 06:25

Good morning! You've just reminded me to deflea the cat @SpiritOfEdna, thank you! We use Nexgard Combo now as vet said that the other spot treatments have a resistance problem locally now.
I am resolutely ignoring Christmas, mainly. I do like seeing lights up though. They cheer up winter. I think this autumn has been colourful in itself, this year. I am currently feeling delighted at the lack of mud so far - some years we're already ankle-deep.
I think we can take a guess at where the last few weeks have gone @petalpower 💐
I hope you and the family are doing ok @Peridot1
I read something years ago in my granny's magazine - about you know someone is a real friend if you don't mind them dropping by when you are Clearing Out Drawers. It definitely does get worse before it gets better, doesn't it?

I am pleased and proud to announce that a previously sticky kitchen cupboard is now shiny and clean. The lawn has had a last mow and the patio and paths are all swept. AND I pulled out and vacuumed behind the big furniture in the lounge. Feeling really quite magnificent.

Has anyone seen the tv ad where it looks like there's a group of sleepy and dishevelled mums of babies chatting in the kitchen. Then you realise it's an internet support group and there's really only one there with her baby?
I feel a bit like that with my coffee and this lovely thread! #passes the hobnobs

Have a great day everyone ☕
