Evening all! So sorry to have been AWOL, the fireplace knockout all went wrong and then we've been away for half term.
Apart from that, the house is an absolute tip, there's stuff everywhere but the new fire goes in this week so progress.
Many fireworks going off here tonight, ddog is snoring through it.

FourSeasonsLobelia · 03/11/2024 08:21

Morning all. Hope your visits go well and peacefully @petalpower . Very best wishes to you and your ILs and DDad and DSM.

Hope you had a good break @RunningKatie .

I am getting the house ready for the week ahead and starting on sorting out papers for our tax return. Very exciting!

Off to wordle now.... hope everyone has a lovely day!

RunningKatie · 03/11/2024 19:18

Thanks @FourSeasonsLobelia - good week off, just wishing a magic house cleaning fairy had visited whilst we were away!
Today I've changed a picture frame, done a food shop, washed a load and then had to hand wash some PE leggings for school tomorrow. Also picked up paint charts, messaged school and taken ddog out on a big walk before fireworks again tonight.
I've never done Wordle, beginning to think I'm missing out.

WinterFrog · 04/11/2024 09:44

👋 to all! Good to read the updates. Everyone with their hands full as always so best wishes all round 💐

I had a roll my sleeves up and get on with it kind of Sunday, so all set for the week round the house. Shortly off to check in with mum's gardener, and then visit her with a pile of clean clothes. She's in a rehabilitation unit so they are getting her up and dressed daily, but quite reasonably they only wash hospital owned kit.

This afternoon holds some study time, hopefully. And I have found that journalling (on paper) and studying happen much more effectively out of the house so I am going to download some of the material while I'm in the shower.

Wordle ✅ Connections ✅

Peridot1 · 04/11/2024 12:22

Hello all. Sorry I’ve been AWOL for a bit. Life got very stressful with our living room renovation - builder messed up booking the painters so that got delayed by a week. Then carpet got damaged being delivered to supplier so that was almost a disaster. I burst into tears on the phone to the builder when he rang to tell me. Thankfully the carpet fitter was a total star and managed to source something very similar to what I’d ordered, drove and hour to pick it up that night and fitted it next morning. Other tha. Curtain pole and curtains and blinds going up which will hopefully be this weekend the room is done.

However I am never doing anything to the house ever again!

And in the midst of everything our dog has deteriorated a lot so we have been dealing with that. I’m currently away in Boston and woke up to a message from DH to say he has booked a quality of life discussion with the vet when I get back on Wednesday. She is almost 14 and a half.

Sorry to read about your dad and stepmother @petalpower. It’s always hard but hopefully it will be easier on everyone in the long run.

@RunningKatie - sorry to hear your fireplace went wrong. I feel your pain!

I’m and avid Wordle fan too. And Connections, Strands and the mini crossword. Sometimes the bigger crossword but only on Mondays as that’s the easiest day. It gets harder as the week goes on!

SpiritOfEdna · 04/11/2024 14:24

Morning, feeling fragile this morning as had a weekend of birthday celebrations :smile am officially very old. I was very spoilt with presents and a painting by numbers of SpiritDoggo has just arrived
Today

  • dog still has fleas so appointment with vet tomorrow (not sure what they can do, but we'll take her in). Dog also has not eaten anything for a day, which is very unusual so will ask about that as well.
  • bought flea bombs, need to order the Rug Doctor machine for sofa/rugs/stair carpet.
  • annual appraisal this week, so need to get self appraisal done
  • there's another new hob arriving sometime this week - need to make sure someone will be in
  • have done a switch of my bank account this morning and finally closed down the 2 empty ccs. One has a 6 quid balance on so once that has been sorted I will be down to one last balance xfer.
  • work laptop battery has broken so ordered a new one
  • I am going to do one of the Camino Way walks next year so have enquired about doing that, let the training commence (lots of dog walks 😄)

That's all for today, have a good day, will have a read back later I saw lots of picture of delicious food 😄SoE

petalpower · 04/11/2024 17:35

Sorry to hear about your dog @Peridot1 . I hope your vet appointment goes as well as it in can in the circumstances.
Well done to everyone else on your many achievements!
We got back from the elderly parent visit just after lunch and I have done a bit of a house reset as DS left after we did to see the grandparents and DD came back yesterday from a weekend with friends.

  • dead flowers thrown out, recycling basket emptied, gasping basil plants revived, clocks wound, bins emptied, loo roll holders replenished, post dealt with etc. Why doesn’t anyone else notice these jobs??
  • John Lewis order placed for lovely new pillows and guest room bedding
  • train booked to see baby great niece for the first time!
  • vets contacted about ongoing dog medication query
I have an evening of catching up with Strictly that I missed on Saturday as in-laws are not fans. I know the result as I was allowed to watch that! How is your mum getting on at the rehabilitation unit @WinterFrog ? Do you think she’ll eventually be able to go home?
WinterFrog · 05/11/2024 07:55

So sorry you've been feeling fraught @Peridot1 and I also hope that the vet visit goes as well as it can 💐

Congratulations on being officially old @SpiritOfEdna 😂 and even more so at your managing many tasks! Hope you had lovely celebrations 🎉

Thank you @petalpower I honestly don't know what lies ahead for my mum. Wherever she goes, unless she makes an astonishing (and frankly unlikely) improvement, she will require a lot of care as she's still barely mobile 😔
Congratulations on the baby great niece! Doesn't being a great aunt feel quite grand?!

I'm the only person in this house who ever puts loo roll on the holder too.

I've cleared and cleaned another grubby shelf, and I have a bag of clothes to be rehomed later.

I might run a maintenance wash today, and clean the soap drawer and filters. Need to pick up more calgon first. That will be my project.

Hugs to all @Aria999 hope you're coping with the two jobs!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 05/11/2024 17:07

Just a little "hello" to all with support to those needing some. Life is a stressful endeavour, isn't it? 💐
Windstorm yesterday. Luckily we didn't lose power. Many did.
Painting prep on a kitchen wall nearly done. That's the easy part. It's going to be tricky to paint as cupboard is fixed to it.
Still coughing/congested. It's week 3. 😢

Being a great auntie sounds so old @WinterFrog ! I hope things improve for your mum and she is as comfortable as possible. Old age and failing health are rubbish.
Have the children been ill as well @Mumtobabyhavoc ? Three weeks sounds like a long time to have germs lingering.
Presume you’re flying in soon from the US @Peridot1 . It must have been interesting to be there in the run up to the election!
Congratulations on the birthday @SpiritOfEdna . Hope you were thoroughly spoiled and had a lovely time.
Seem to have been busy all day here and not really sure what I’ve achieved! Aqua fit this morning, meal planning for a weekend of visitors, cleaned a bathroom, had a phone medication review and gave lots of TLC to junior Petaldog who seems to have a swollen ear. We think he may have been stung on a walk this morning as he looked very sorry for himself and was definitely not his usual bouncy self.

WinterFrog · 06/11/2024 07:29

Hello hello! I hope those germs clear up soon @Mumtobabyhavoc!

Poor Petaldog @petalpower I hope his ear is feeling better today.
My cat is starting to feel his age, I've noticed. Bit creaky in the mornings now. So he's been started on a daily dose of metacam.

I have a day almost free of commitments today, and I am going to take a long walk on the beach I think. I have a few cobwebs needing to be blown away!

Best wishes to all 💐

WinterFrog · 06/11/2024 07:43

@Mumtobabyhavoc i just looked at some videos of your recent storms 😱 I'm glad you had no damage!

WinterFrog · 07/11/2024 08:03

Morning all! Slower start than usual today, but then busy all day. I even had coffee brought to me in bed as DH left home early for a work do. I could get used to this! Cobwebs nicely blown away due to a long solo walk yesterday. The solitude, sea air and extra exercise gave me a very good night's sleep too so I'm feeling epic 💪
Thinking of you today @Peridot1

Today's extra job is to wipe the sides of the fridge freezer and oven. Keeping it simple today.

Best wishes to all 💕

Mumtobabyhavoc · 07/11/2024 17:54

Winter, sounds like a very nice start to your day. A good walk does wonders, doesn't it?

Still in the trenches here with being sick. It's gone in my chest now as well, so I'm trying to stay super hydrated.
Took dc for a walk last night after dinner and after a bit of very light jogging with Havoc while pushing baby in stroller had a coughing fit for about 5 mins. 😮‍💨😧
The dc are about the same, but more energetic, so I'm feeling bad that I've had to keep Havoc home from school and gymnastics. School is more lenient with sickness, gymnastics isn't though. (People still take their too sick kids, though. But, I won't rant.)

Still have to finish painting kitchen wall. The kitchen seems so much brighter already though! 😃
And it looks as though the repairs I did are pretty good! 😅

Thinking about everyone on our lovely thread. Would be so nice to have a coffee with everyone. It's so lovely on here.

oh, yes, weather service confirmed an EF0 tornado briefly touched down in Sechelt on Monday. That makes me quite nervous. I've been out on the water when small water spouts have touched down. It's scary.

Aria999 · 07/11/2024 20:01

Hello all!

Sounds perfect @WinterFrog . There's something special about sea air.

Sorry to hear you aren't well @Mumtobabyhavoc , hard to look after yourself properly with two little ones! Try to get some early nights! I agree this would be a lovely group to meet up for a coffee with 😊

How are ddog(s) @Peridot1 and @petalpower?

That sounds super stressful with the renovations @Peridot1. We had similar stress with our bathroom a couple years ago and I don't even like it now it's done. Both DH's brothers basically had their entire houses gutted and rebuilt on the inside and they look utterly gorgeous but I don't know how they did it. Not in my skill set....

Happy belated birthday @SpiritOfEdna!

Things have calmed down here on the work front. Finished with client 2 for now and client 1 is having a wobble about data maintenance so I asked him to set up a couple of examples in Quickbooks so we can do a test run with real data, and he has gone off to try and do so.

I am being very inefficient and scrolling Mumsnet a lot. Post election blues yesterday at least. Today I put away 3 enormous baskets of clean laundry and cleaned the kitchen but that somehow took me all the time up to 2.30 😳

Waiting for DS therapy now.

RunningKatie · 07/11/2024 20:23

Evening! Busy evening here, I've re-hung the curtains so we're not living in a goldfish bowl anymore. Chased the plasterer again. Bought 2 birthday cakes, 1 for family party, 1 for friends party.
Lunches made for school, washing up done, washing hung up to dry. Wrapped some birthday presents, I need to find the rest - I may have hidden them too well! At least they may turn up for Christmas.
We've got a cleaner coming next week to have a look at the house, I'm terrified she'll say it's too big a job. I think even if she did downstairs and the upstairs bathroom it would help massively.

SpiritOfEdna · 08/11/2024 10:14

Morning, thanks for the birthday greetings, I've gone from fine dining to picking fleas off from SpiritCoco this week 😄 We can't give her her new medication till next Saturday so it's all 90 degree washing and fumigating the house this weekend. Ironically the dog has never looked fancier as she is so clean and shiny and her curls are so bouncy. GNiece also has a new puppy for her birthday - we'll never see her again
This weekend

  • trip to the tip with a load of manky throws & boxes
  • second new hob arrives tomorrow - hope this one works
  • big shop needed
  • car clean and trip to Halfords to get the back light sorted.
  • fumigate & spray the house - flea bombs for every room
  • need to do some shopping for trip to Cornwall week after next - birthday and xmas presents for the Cornwall crew.
  • potentially a door step meeting to meet new puppy
  • pilates
  • need to complete annual review - done.
  • need to get to the gym - birthday cake pounds 😭

That's all for now, have a good day, SoE

Edited: Inspired by havoc just watched a YouTube video to change the lightbulb, I think I can do it myself !

Peridot1 · 08/11/2024 14:47

Happy birthday wishes @SpiritOfEdna! Hope you had lots of cake.🍰

I too would love us all to meet up for coffee one day @Mumtobabyhavoc.

@Aria999 - thankfully we are happy with what has been done! It would be even more stressful if we weren’t.

I am struggling to get much done here as the dog is so needy and taking up so much time. BUt we have had a conversation with the vet and made the decision that it’s time to let her go sadly. So we will book to have the vet come to the house on Tuesday. Dreading it obviously but it’s the right thing to do. Poor DS is pretty upset. Well we all are obviously. But it’s hard seeing him upset.

I am hoping to get the windows cleaned in the living room this afternoon before the curtains and blinds go back up tomorrow. Sofas were cleaned yesterday using a supposed dry foam process so they weren’t supposed to be wet. Well they were. And still are!

Aria999 · 08/11/2024 15:15

Just had our parent teacher meeting for DS8. He aced everything, glowing reports all round, especially on social skills and classroom participation which are areas he typically struggles with.

So proud of him 😊

WinterFrog · 08/11/2024 16:39

Hello everyone! 💐 @Peridot1 They take a piece of your heart don't they? We had our little guy pts at home. It all feels so much more peaceful. Our other dog had an emergency health crisis and was in the vet hospital for a day before they made the call. It feels better to protect them from that if you can 💔
All go for everyone as always! I've achieved nothing at all at home today beyond making the bed and putting a wash on, but I'm in now so there's time to catch up with myself. It's been a day of meetings! DH is alway in charge of Friday teatime, but he's at an appointment at min so I'll set things straight before taking root on the sofa.

Aria999 · 08/11/2024 17:45

So sorry to hear about ddog @Peridot1 that's very sad. (I failed to read updates before posting 😳) xx

Mumtobabyhavoc · 08/11/2024 18:42

Oh, Peridot, I'm so sorry about your ddog. That's exactly why I won't have pets. I am too soft-hearted for eol decisions like that. Sending you support. 🩷💐

Winter, washing and making beds is good! 👍
Aria, huge congratulations re your ds's progress. 👏
Spirit, those fleas sure are persistent! How frustrating!
Have you given any thought to having a pest control company take a crack at it? It sounds like you've tried everything else.
Katie, super productive you! I don't have curtains on a window and I took the rod off, filled the holes and painted the whole wall. Still can't decide what to do, but am leaning towards some of that vinyl window film I put in a bedroom last spring. I'm thinking of doing same of just part of the window to give privacy.

Lots to do here, but planning on taking dc out instead as it's not raining. Waiting out Havoc's tantrum about not getting Halloween candy now at 10:30am. 🎃🤦‍♀️

@Mumtobabyhavoc I actually think that's a great time to give Halloween candy, especially if you're about to go to the park....

I am giving mine 1 piece in the car on the way to school (sorry teachers 😳😁)

petalpower · 08/11/2024 19:04

Oh @Peridot1 I’m so sorry to hear about your lovely dog. What a difficult decision you’ve had to make with your family. Sending love ❤️

Hmmm interesting methodology! 🧐👏
I've been giving the whole bag every other day.
Havoc opens/asks me to open items, smells or licks the candy, then puts it aside. The only things eaten are M&Ms or Smarties (Canadian M&M's and crunchier), or Aero bars (milk choc). The candy is mostly played with. 🤷‍♀️
