@petalpower - sad news about dad and step-mum but a relief too for you as well I would think x @Mumtobabyhavoc your meals look delicious and I do love sprouts
Today, busy couple of work days leading up to when our offshore teams are going to be on a break for Diwali.

  • SpiritDoggo needs a walk + she still has fleas, so we have bought the entire contents of flea shampoo/conditioner and furniture spray from pets at home. So more spraying/bathing/hoovering to be done,
  • pay the balance of a minimum spend for a restaurant - DONE
  • roadtax is due this week, so need to do that today
  • another course on the cards for work and an annual appraisal to prepare for
  • I need to measure a bay window for new curtains and a custom built curtain rail - prep for a room refresh next year
  • need to put a load of washing, was in the gym this morning and noticed my top was filthy 😄
  • need to check when my dental appointment is and put it in diary
  • need to prune the dog's toy box, it is full of massacred toys 😃
That may be all for today, have a good one, SoE

I am hoping this pic saves properly.

Not as pretty as @Mumtobabyhavoc but delicious. Pasta with courgette, broccoli, onion and cherry tomatoes with cream and cheese and chicken. Gorgeous.

Looks and sounds pretty good to me, Lobelia! 😛
I also always have a jar of pesto in the fridge and use it as my base as well. I just put a dollop in to add flavour, not to make it an obvious pesto dish. It's also my base for pizza. I never use tomato sauce any more.

DC napped at the same time today, so I managed to get into bathroom to sand and paint the difficult wall behind sink and toilet. Looks like I'm not going to get away with leaving last wall. Contractor did a dismal job on it last year when some repairs were done.
Tummy is rumbling ... must get into kitchen... I wish I had thawed the lamb chops, but I think I'll cook them from frozen and see what I come up with. 🧐
I am refusing to go for groceries for at least another day.

Thanks @Mumtobabyhavoc they look amazing!

We are culinary hard work here as I don't eat fish / seafood and DH hardly eats veg... but I am going to try them with chicken next time DH is away. (When he is here, he cooks).

Aria999 · 29/10/2024 23:52

Aaagh I should not have ended up with two clients.

Sooo many things I am not doing....

Mumtobabyhavoc · 30/10/2024 02:05

So, the lamb chops did turn out all right. I put pesto amd a slice of feta on each for the last few minutes in the oven. Wanted them cooked medium, but they ended up well done. 🤷‍♀️ Saved the drippings and bones and made broth. Irish stew for tomorrow.

Morning! Continuing the cooking chat, it was bangers and mash with fried onions in this house yesterday. Unhealthy and yet oh so delicious!
How is half term going for those with young 'uns?
No time for tagging today but enjoying the posts as always.
At some point today I plan to pull the furniture out and give the lounge a thorough hoover. I also need to pick up some compost and pots, as three of my plants need re- potting.

Best wishes to all, with all that is going on for everyone 💐

FourSeasonsLobelia · 30/10/2024 07:36

Morning all. Love bangers and mash @WinterFrog !

Tacos for us tonight. Half term going okay here but I am going to try and get tomorrow off if possible. Im waiting for the DCs to wake so we can do our wordle. We start at the same time and see who gets it first. It has never once been me!

Hope everyone has a great day!

WinterFrog · 30/10/2024 08:26

@FourSeasonsLobelia I followed the unhealthy dinner ( which in my defence included healthy goodies thrown in - unbeknownst to DH, who as you know is being dun good by stealth) with a bacon sandwich this morning 😎 Purely because he bought the bacon and it needed using up. I intend to make savoury cheese and bacon muffins with the last two rashers.

We should start a thread on how we all do wordle 😂 We alternate choosing the word but hadn't considered making it into a race. We've made it into a memory game, and have to a) remember the word we chose the night before and b) attempt to remember at least three but hopefully all the words listed, later in the day. I know I did it in 5 today, can remember the last word now, can picture how and where I got wrongly place letters but can i remember my starting word? No I cannot!
Think I need to see a doctor 🤦‍♀️

Mumtobabyhavoc · 30/10/2024 18:29

Winter, I used to make a little game by using the previous day's answer as my starter word.

Have done a thorough vacuum moving furniture in the living room. Had pest control come in proactively checking for mice and checking the bait trap as we had mice two years ago. All clear still. 👍
Both mice and rats are in the neighbourhood, though. Have seen them in yards when out walking, usually at dusk.

FourSeasonsLobelia · 31/10/2024 07:34

Morning all! I have a day off today thanks to my truly lovely new boss. 🙂

For wordle the dcs each have a starter word they always choose. I alternate between ‘paper’ and ‘havoc’ 😝 then we race. Today i did get it but was very slow. I am not that great at wordle ( or any word games… crosswords are a total non starter) but it is fun.

Today is a cinema, pizza hut kind of day. Plus a swing by the GP who still has not responded to my now 2 e-consults and 1 phone call.

SpiritOfEdna · 31/10/2024 10:18

Morning
Not so busy a work day for me today as it is Diwali and all my offshore teams are on leave for 2 days. So today:

  • found road tax letter reminder in two mins (hurrah for boring filing tasks!) and paid for another year
  • need to replenish the Halloween goodies as we may have opened some last night 😄
  • close down 2 x cc as have done the last balance transfer I need to do
  • more dog grooming - maybe another bath tonight depending on flea situation today - none on inspection this morning
  • hoover sofa & rugs & beds. Dig out the upholstery cleaner for sofa as I found some dirty spots on yesterday's hoovering session 😬
  • find debit card - I had it this morning in the gym but it appears to have been put down somewhere (grr)
  • walk SpiritDoggo
  • Sew lining of my coat
  • fetch a jumper that's been delivered to a local shop
Other tasks are shouting do me do me, but I think that is enough for now, I might get on a roll later, have a good day, SoE

Survived another evening of trick of treating! We had a series of small disasters in the run up, and DD went out in a costume safety pinned up the back because the zipper failed at a crucial moment...

Today I actually reached a pause in work at around 3.30pm and did some other useful things:

Changed sheets
Put on 2 loads of laundry
Tidied and deployed robots to kitchen , master bedroom and upstairs hall

Also the cleaners have been and did a wonderful job on the bathrooms.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 01/11/2024 00:13

Aria, I enjoy imagining your robot vacuum army. 😄

Awaiting first trick or treaters here, but it's just past 5pm. The only thing I managed to mess up was my pizza dough that I just tossed into the garbage.
PSA: paper towel sticks to dough. 🤦‍♀️

Hello all 👋
Pleased you got the all clear from pest control @Mumtobabyhavoc and @SpiritOfEdna I hope you are able to get fully rid of the fleas! Which reminds me I need to order cat medication... Littlest had a letter from nursery to say that someone has headlice so there's always something 🤦‍♀️

Well, @FourSeasonsLobelia I used Havoc as my starting word today in honour of our little thread and promptly got it in....seven! I think it could be Karma for my cheat when I had a 160+ day streak.

Yesterday I carved a pumpkin for the first time ever. I'd always thought it looked far too difficult and I hadn't really considered how it was done, till suddenly nearly 60 years in I realised you just slice the top off. I process things very slowly sometimes. I'd had this vague notion that you hollow it through the mouth etc...I know 😳 Obviously once I thought it through I worked it out 😂 Quite pleased with the result, and there shall be pumpkin soup today!

Hope the DC enjoyed the trick or treating @Aria999 even with the safely pinned clothing! We had a steady stream of little visitors with some great outfits. My favourites were Wednesday Addams and the most endearing toddler witch.

Where is our @Peridot1? I hope you are ok! And hope that @RunningKatie, @SingleThreadJoiner and @petalpower and our occasional other visitors are all well and just busy irl 💕

WinterFrog · 01/11/2024 07:35

Obviously I do hope DC costume was safely pinned @Aria999 but I did actually mean safety pinned. Appears I need to proofread my posts not once, but twice!

Aria999 · 01/11/2024 16:21

lol @WinterFrog no worries! Congrats on your newfound pumpkin carving skills!

We did carve pumpkins but with mixed success.

DS insisted I copy a really complex design from the internet for him to follow - which I did but imperfectly so of course it was my fault it didn't look how he wanted it to,

DD did a super job cutting along the lines I drew for her but then got up and knocked her pumpkin off the table by accident whereupon it broke into several pieces. I more or less managed to stick it back together with cocktail sticks but then I had to finish the last bits of cutting out for her because it was so fragile.

(The orange one is DD's)

Thanks for the wave @WinterFrog - yes lots going on irl, and a funeral abroad to attend on Monday so lots of hurried planning and flight booking. D enjoyed Halloween A LOT though, so that cheered me up!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 01/11/2024 23:14

Single, sorry you have funersl. 💐 Glad your dd had fun and helped buoy your spirit, though. ☺️
Good save, Aria! You are more ambitious than me:

Just free-styled old-fashioned jack o lanterns last night with Havoc for the first time. Saw a few amazing ones when out, though!

@Mumtobabyhavoc yes though the scoop is awol and I had to use an ice cream scoop....

Mumtobabyhavoc · 02/11/2024 05:24

a blade type edge also works, ie soup spoon.

Every day I mean to post and most days seem to just pass by!
Currently away for the weekend staying with elderly parents in law and visiting dad and stepmother at their respective care homes. Senior Petaldog doesn’t seem to get on particularly well with PIL’s dog (we inherited senior dog recently as she was my dad’s dog) so it’s a bit Tetris-like with having dogs in different rooms to avoid barking situations.
I’m another wordle fan and do it every morning, always starting with the same two words. I’m very impressed that you can remember the word afterwards @WinterFrog as it seems to immediately leave my head once I’ve done the wordle! I also like connections but get annoyed when they’re very American in theme and I can’t work them out.
