Winter, thanks for thinking about me. 🩷
Sitting here nursing baby then dashing out the door to take my mum to hospital for surgery this morning. It's 5:45am, been awake since 4am yet suddenly am running late. 🤷‍♀️

good luck to #mumtomumtobabyhavoc x

Afternoon, everything is breaking down here: the tumble dryer started making noises like it was about to take off last night and then ground to a halt and the dishwasher has given up the ghost as well.... Engineer coming out tomorrow for dryer and hand washing dishes for now.
Busy work day, but will:

  • get all the dishes washed
  • plants indoor and out tended to
  • been chasing various trades to do stuff - going old school by phoning up only to go to voicemail and get a text message saying please go to our website to log a request. Mate, I've already done that (ggggrrr)
  • hurrah I finished the work course I was doing today (by letting all the videos run on in the background 😄I hope no one questions my knowledge toooo much)
  • busy work afternoon, but some meetings just require listening in on, so I can prep tea and clean the kitchen for the engineer tomorrow, it's just surface clutter, so wont take long
That's all for now, SoE
FourSeasonsLobelia · 25/10/2024 07:49

Morning all. Hope you mum is okay and comfortable @Mumtobabyhavoc .

wierd day for me today. I had forgotten i had online CPD training this afternoon. Plus covid jabs in about an hour. But hope to do some home stuff in between. I am also waiting for a call back from the GP which was supposed to come by the latest at 3 pm yesterday.

wishing you all a good day.

WinterFrog · 25/10/2024 08:18

Morning all!

@Mumtobabyhavoc I hope all went well for your mum 🙏

@SpiritOfEdna you are crafty! 😂 I am also impressed with your multi tasking skills!

I am slightly frustrated as the course I'm doing is all on video, and I'd love to be able to sort it out so I could listen instead. I get bored watching videos. Always think I could be on the move instead.

My fb related mood improved post deletion and a bit of gardening. I'm not safe to be in the 21st Century!

Bah to unexpected things and lack of GP call @FourSeasonsLobelia! Ruining your projecty day 😔

I am still coming to terms with phone calls with medical professionals. Perfectly capable of picking up the phone and calling people, and fond memories of long chats with friends years ago ( and my mum making me make awkward calls as I was growing up) But it does feel strange not doing appointments face to face. Our surgery has a system which works quite well though. Recently got on the NHS app ( late adopter her...even my ancient mum uses it) It's quite something being able to read history back to 2004.

Another tangent 😳

Today I intend to rummage in the freezer, menu plan for next week and do the grocery shop.

Beautiful sunrise this morning! And the clocks go back this weekend don't they?

Best wishes to everyone...ooh nearly half term!

Aria999 · 25/10/2024 23:13

Hello all!

Sorry you are having Facebook issues @WinterFrog ! Re speed of video you know you can change the speed to 1.5 or 2x?It no longer makes it squeaky, just speeds it up.

Ah, CPD @FourSeasonsLobelia , 'Tis the season clearly.

How are things with you @Mumtobabyhavoc , hope your mum's surgery went ok?

Exciting news about your parents @SingleThreadJoiner !

I'm reheating leftovers from last night for dinner and wondering if I can fit some more work in this evening (and if so whether I can get away with a small glass of wine with dinner).

I have accidentally ended up with 2 simultaneous clients and one of them is spontaneously paying me a weekly retainer- no terms were discussed but it's making me feel a bit worried about having accepted a second one!

It happened kind of by accident, he said he just wanted a couple hours phone call to help with something but it's turned out to be more than that....

FourSeasonsLobelia · 26/10/2024 09:50

Hi all. still no call from the GP. I am annoyed.

Hope everyone is well. @Aria999 i think work always goes more smoothly with a glass of wine. 🙂

Menu planning @WinterFrog . I did a bit last night. Here is what i have on the agenda as a busy week coming up

-chicken schnitzel with apple sauce and jacket potatos thankfully our butcher does them pre-crumbed.
-pesto chicken pasta with cream

  • smug soup with ham and butter white rolls
  • taco tuesday
  • bratwurst hotdogs with cabbage and a green veg
Most of it is emphatically not from scratch but I am taking on board the phrase ‘everybody fed, nobody dead’ this week. 😅

Hope all are well. 🌼

Mumtobabyhavoc · 26/10/2024 21:34

Very industrious meal planning Seasons. 😃

My mum seems to be doing ok. Has pain, but that was expected. I'll help check the dressing later.
Took baby to med appt, made a quick stop at grocery store, cane hone and made white chop chip pancake's with fresh berries and Chantilly cream. (And a cold milk latte, of course!). Load of laundry tossed in before going out, so need to get that into the dryer. Not really planning on much today, but painting is nagging and I want to put up an under counter light, so we'll see what happens if I can get Havoc to nap.
Dinner plans are being mulled... if I have enough flour I'll make a crab pesto pizza. Otherwise it's pasta with prawns and asparagus. 🧐
Bum is fixed to couch atm...

Yum @Mumtobabyhavoc pancakes sound delicious. Your cooking always sounds so sophisticated, especially the things you just throw together for fun in a spare 5 minutes 😁

Aria999 · 26/10/2024 21:41

Today I took DD to Kung fu then we had a park play date with a new friend. It went pretty well. DD is an excellent social asset, she's friendly and positive and will play nicely with anyone if they give her half a chance.

Then lunch then grocery shopping.

Currently just finished a cup of coffee and a contemplating the 2 overflowing baskets of clean laundry that have not made it up from the cellar yet....

Mumtobabyhavoc · 27/10/2024 00:21

Most of my cooking is super easy and fairly quick, Aria. ☺️ I'll happily prove it if you drop by.

WinterFrog · 27/10/2024 07:03

Hello all! Up bright and early as forgot to reset my sunrise alarm for the hour change. I was going to say I'm enjoying the peace but I knocked down a row of framed photos in my attempt to reach the mantlepiece clock and it all went down with a clatter. Fortunately we don't have littlest with us today as that would have woken her, and thus the whole household. It has inspired me to declutter that particular area of the lounge though, as it shouldn't be that hard to reach a clock!

Well done with the meal planning @FourSeasonsLobelia Mine only made it to the list of things to do, and then things happened and I got busy unexpectedly, so DH did the grocery shop ( I was trying to avoid this as he's not as frugal as I am) and so now I must look at what he bought and see how far I can stretch it.

👋 @Aria999 I do speed up audio books but I hadn't thought of doing so with videos! Thanks for the tip. Your DD sounds delightful! One of mine used to be borrowed on a fairly regular basis as a calming influence - the others not quite so much.... All grown into well rounded adults though, and with friends. 50:50 ratio of party animals:not. Littlest definitely showing party animal tendencies 💕 Good luck with juggling work sitch.

@Mumtobabyhavoc hope your mum continues to mend well. Your cooking does sound lovely! My answer to your choc chip pancakes ( which sound delicious!) is greek yoghurt with blueberries (etc) and grated dark chocolate. Sometimes add flaxseed and/or spices like nutmeg or cinnamon. I am an extremely lazy cook but still try to cram in plants. Am Michael Moseley fan (may he rest in peace)

Sunday once again. Time flies even when it's going backwards! Gorgeous day here, and it's looking good for the week. Bodes well for the trick or treaters on Thursday ( we have lots of young families in our road so we'll be the kindly old neighbours with a mountain of sweets at the ready) Well be fed up with it after a couple of hours if previous years are anything to go by, and then we'll blow out the candles, turn off the lights and turn the telly up 😂

Have a great day all!

petalpower · 27/10/2024 09:58

Beautiful sunny Sunday here! I think my project for today should be to find the bottom of the ironing basket as this week is quite busy. I might be able to combine this with catching up with Strictly as we were out at a local fundraiser quiz last night.
Hoping to be a bit more present on these threads moving forward as my dad is now in a nursing home after his bout of sepsis and time in hospital so things should settle a little and I will be doing less crisis management. I’ve been thinking of everyone on here who is also going through tough times with their parents. Flowers

WinterFrog · 27/10/2024 15:02

Hello @petalpower! Lovely to 'see' you 💕 I think Dad in a nursing home is probably a good thing? You've done him proud, with all that you've done, and really deserve a break 💐 Crisis management is so tiring isn't it? And all that decision making. I say No to the ironing ( unless you enjoy it...) and Yes to Strictly!
I have been out and about this morning and currently have my feet up while DH preps our dinner. Then we are catching up on a bit of telly (No Offence reruns for anyone interested) with no ironing involved. After that I intend to 'set fair' the place, ahead of what promises to be quite a busy week (though it does begin with taking eldest DD out for breakfast ♥)

We're In now so I have just divested myself of my bra. Tmi sorry but omg it's so much more comfortable 😂

FourSeasonsLobelia · 27/10/2024 15:07

@petalpower I agree with every single thing that @WinterFrog said.

Including the bra thing.

🙂

I have no doubt your dad is in the best place. Best wishes to you all. x

Mumtobabyhavoc · 27/10/2024 19:36

Petal, it's likely better for your dad as he'll have round the click care now. It's so difficult getting there, though. I hope you are doing okay? And will your step-mum cope okay?

Aria, sample easy meal: frozen prawns into pan then cut into three pieces when cooked, added slices grape tomatoes, left over roasted potatoes chopped up, left over cooked sweet corn cut off cob, generous amount spinach, al dente cooked pasta and aome whipping cream. Simmered til cream soaked up a bit. Meanwhile roasted Brussels sprouts and asparagus. Easy. Used up left overs. Got lots of veg. 😄

Thank you for your kind words - it’s been hard but I know we’ve made the right decision long term for my dad. Thank you for asking about my stepmother @Mumtobabyhavoc . Unfortunately she also has had to go into residential care due to memory issues (awaiting diagnosis). She and dad started off together but he now needs nursing care which the residential home wasn’t able to provide so double guilt about that.
I ignored the ironing @WinterFrog and just watched Strictly!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 27/10/2024 22:40

Oh, no Petal! That happens here, too. It's just heart-breaking. I'm sorry. 💐

Mumtobabyhavoc · 28/10/2024 03:52

Been puttering here: 3 loads laundry, washed floor in hallway, made brownies, sanded spackled wall in bathroom and filled dings on a wall in the kitchen which I'll paint.

FourSeasonsLobelia · 28/10/2024 07:37

Oh @petalpower . That is very sad. I am sorry.

Your pasta looks lovely @Mumtobabyhavoc . I had a bit of a tantrum over cooking last night…. we had been meant to go out but the rest of the family could not be bothered so i had a bit of a stamping moan about sorting out 21 meals a week and i was not going to cook. Cue takeaway for the others and bbq chicken wings shoved i. the oven for me. Im still not pleased about it all but I am not sulking now. And DH is making pancakes for breakfast. 😳

Tonight everyone is getting something shoved in the oven. Probably chicken tenders. Although i very much like a cream and veg pasta idea….. hmmm…..

On the plus side though I have sorted out our travel insurance for our next holiday. So thats good.

Hope everyone is well. Love to all. 🌹

Mumtobabyhavoc · 28/10/2024 12:04

Lobelia, menu planning can be a chore... the pasta dish I make has many variations. Cream isn't a must. Crumbled feta and a bit of pasta water. Or grated parm/pecorino. It's a way for me to use veg and any left overs. Rotisserie chicken is a usual add-in, but often it's just a bunch of veg. It's what's on hand, really.

Was up nursing baby an hour ago and still feeling a bit crap with this damn cold, so did a sinus rinse. Cleaned the sink out. Then toilet, then tub, cleaned mirror... decided to boil kettle and soaked dish cloth and veg scrubber in vinegar and boiling water... it's now 5am and I'm here and making a pod-cast list. Currently listening to strategies to deal with toddler power struggles...🤷‍♀️

Mumtobabyhavoc · 29/10/2024 02:43

Aria, here's another super easy one:
frozen salmon filet with pesto spooned over, potatoes and sprouts tossed in evoo, s&p snd garlic powder. Same pan @ 425f about 20-25-ish mins, remove sprouts, few mins later remove potatoes then salmon under broiler 2 mins. Done.

Your meals looks very tasty @Mumtobabyhavoc Tempted to try the creamy pasta dish. I'm always very happy with my go-to base of chopped onions, garlic and celery sweated till softened in olive oil, sometimes spices, and then throw left over meat/veg or ( sometimes and) tinned beans ( black beans in the house currently) bit of stock, and then have with pasta or rice. Easy, cheap, tasty. DH was quite startled at this when I met him but 15 years on it's one of his favourites. Never the same twice! Was something all the children would eat back in the day too.

I have over- booked myself out today but I have put a load of laundry on. There's a basket of clean washing that must be put away. Hugs @FourSeasonsLobelia your post reminded me of me during the chaos teenage years!

Best wishes to you all. Must get back to (my 11 streak 😔) wordle and then do something useful

FourSeasonsLobelia · 29/10/2024 08:04

I did creamy veg pasta last night as a side next to chicken tenders and that was wolfed down. 🙂

Nowhere close today on wordle though.

best to all!

FourSeasonsLobelia · 29/10/2024 08:07

Thanks @WinterFrog . Everyone was a bit startled at my tantrum. But at least we have found out that the answer to the question; ‘what age do children grow out of having tantrums’? is not ‘when they are 51’
