Thanks folks! She's on the mend now. It happened about 6 weeks ago and she's currently in a rehabilitation unit. It's been a bit stressful but I'm fortunate that my siblings and I get on well and so we're holding things together between us. We're all local too. Mum is sleeping a lot but that seems to be normal, and she's not lost her ability to speak or move, thankfully. Just very frail now 😔

Mumtobabyhavoc · 20/10/2024 00:35

That must've been so worrying, Froggy. Glad to know she hasn't suffered severely. 💐🩷

While Havoc napped I prepped a wall in the bathroom for painting: washed, taped, filled dings. Maddeningly, cannot get one side of tp roll hardware off of wall, so taped it to prevent it getting painted. This is never fool-proof, though. Then, wiped kitchen and hall floors. Will sand and paint tonight, hopefully. Didn't do perfect/all repairs, but did what I can live with. 😉

Also stripped bed and threw into wash which is just finishing. Feeding baby then going to get dinner going. Still storming out. Forecast says will last til tomorrow.

Painting success! Have painted bathroom wall, touched up two others and the side of the vanity and cleaned up. I just have the difficult wall to do behind the sink, toilet and light fixture. Also did a load of laundry and hung it up.
Feeling quite accomplished. 😁😁😁😁😁

(only managed to touch wet paint twice, btw...🤷‍♀️)

Morning all. Hope everyone is well. Went out for the day yesterday with the DCs for pizza and a HMV dvd buying extravaganza. Today will be getting ready for the week ahead and a catch up on life admin which I am behind on. Not many proper Daily Projects going on here I am afraid!

wishing good days to everyone!

FourSeasonsLobelia · 20/10/2024 09:05

I’m also making a smug tomato, red pepper and lentil soup for work lunches. I might get started on that now.

Sounds lovely 😍. Do you have a link to a recipe you use?

FourSeasonsLobelia · 20/10/2024 10:37

Morning! Its a bit of a chuck it all in recipe. So onions, carrots and celery, tin of chopped tomatoes red peppers (sometimes i roast them first for a deeper flavour) and two cups of red lentils. Chicken or veg stock and when all cooked I blend until smooth. Its easy and filling and I sometimes add chillis and sour cream. Today we will have it with cheese toasties for full comfort food points!!!!

mum2jakie · 20/10/2024 11:40

Sounds lovely, thanks 😊

WinterFrog · 20/10/2024 18:03

Well done @Mumtobabyhavoc !
@FourSeasonsLobelia that sounds like my chuck everything in soup! Very comforting and healthy too!

I have a glut of tinned sardines so am planning to do a sardine and tomato soup courtesy of Tin Can Cook. It's much nicer than it sounds. And it'll make DH ear the sardines he keeps bloody buying and never eating ( cooked for long enough, the sardines just enrich the tomato soup - it's quite surprising) I don't intend to tell him. He'll be done good by stealth 😂

FourSeasonsLobelia · 21/10/2024 07:27

That sounds very intriguing @WinterFrog ! I do love a tinned sardine, but never thought about it in a soup. I imagine it is a bit like putting anchovies into a sauce or gravy… that unami taste.

I completed some but not all life admin yesterday but did most of the time critical things. The weks are just flying by… cant believe we are two months from christmas!!

hope everyone has a good day.

Peridot1 · 21/10/2024 08:18

Your soup sounds intriguing @WinterFrog! I like sardines on toast but can’t imagine them in a soup. Not sure I’m brave enough!

I’m planning on making a few soups this week too. Roasted butternut squash and cherry tomatoes with coconut milk and chilli for one and a spiced carrot and lentil one too. It’s definitely soup weather!

Our work here is still ongoing. But fingers crossed it will finish on Friday. Painter has just arrived to start so that’s a relief.

I ended up tackling a big clear out of the airing cupboard yesterday as I got banished upstairs by DH watching sport in one room and DS watching sport in another room downstairs! It’s been on my list for ages so a big win. I even labelled some baskets with my label maker!

I now have a big pile of old towels and bedding to donate to charity so will try to get them delivered this week.

Today’s list:

  • wash some bedding (done)
  • order new fire
  • normal laundry
  • clean kitchen (have decided Monday will be my kitchen cleaning day)
  • wash floors in kitchen/dining/living area
  • submit medical insurance claim for chiropractor
  • submit dental insurance claims

Have a good day all.

SpiritOfEdna · 21/10/2024 11:57

peridot you've reminded me I need to book a dental check up.
Today:

  • dental check up to be booked - DONE and then the hygienist
  • I pootled around this morning, brushing the floors tidying away
  • emailed restaurant with a query
  • bed sanded a bit more and also the top of a chest - it has a huge grey ring on it which is slowly vanishing
  • financials & find a zero % balance transfer card - DONE
  • dog is protesting at having the mud brushed out of her fur, but need to get some of the matts out
  • I need to go out and have a little run for 15 minutes now I've found my watch charger (because it doesn't count if its not logged 😄)
That's all for today, have a good one, SoE
Mumtobabyhavoc · 21/10/2024 12:29

Was wondering when Christmas would be mentioned @FourSeasonsLobelia 😄

Just up with dc past hour. Havoc has had ear pain since yesterday. Baby congested. However, both crawling around the floor playing. It's 4:30am. 🤦‍♀️
I almost want to make pancakes and coffee.

OP posts:
WinterFrog · 21/10/2024 15:30

Poor Havoc! Ear main is so miserable! And poor mum being got up so early!

I like your spin on being banished upstairs @Peridot1 You've got a lot done!

@SpiritOfEdna DH is the same re logging exercise. If he can't log it it's not worth doing, apparently... And who doesn't love a good pootle? WHERE, please, did you find a zero balance card? I have looked to no avail.

I'm on a roll and quite thrilled with myself! Lots of little jobs - a cleaned shelf here, a trip to the tip there, plus remembered to plan ahead for some birthdays and pulled up some weeds (mine and mother's) And tonight's dinner is simmering nicely. And I took some books to the phone box 'library' in a nearby village. And picked up some horse rugs that have been washed and re-waterproofed. All the 'Ands'! That's how delighted I am with today's marvellousness. Not to mention not one, but two clean loos! We only have one but I did the one where I volunteer with the ponies as well(see also: cobwebs)
Still to come is cleaning up the mess I just made in the kitchen 😎

WinterFrog · 21/10/2024 15:35

I thought the sardine soup was in the tin can book ( downloaded it specially as I gave my paperback away) Only to find it in the cooking on a bootstrap book. I have taken a pic. I could have sworn that it was a liquidised soup (maybe i did liquidise it last time) DH will not be convinced to eat it if he knows there's fish in it! He believes that fish should only be served with batter ( and chips and gravy, the heathen!)

Not sure where the first half of the day went.

I did the supermarket shop and made apple turnovers and suddenly it's 1pm!

Today I must change the sheets and towels and I would like to finish clearing the DC floors so I can sent the robot in.

DD is only 4 but can do a very impressive and thorough tidy of her room all by herself these days. With DS8 it's like pulling teeth and I will need about an hour to finish the job properly.

WinterFrog · 22/10/2024 08:39

Good morning! The rain has cleared up and it's a lovely bright chilly sunny morning. It came via thick fog overnight which i had to drive in though!
@Aria999 I can lose a whole morning to a grocery shop and some baking too (and you also had to get children to school I should think?) Having the robots to send in sounds fun 😂 Impressed at a 4 year old tidying a bedroom. Mine were never very good ( neither was I) and I only learnt years later from flylady that you do actually have to teach them to do it 🤦‍♀️ We learned together when they were teenagers and we're all quite well house-trained these days. I think it's why I get so full of myself when I achieve a clean shelf or whatever... I have a friend who's house is always spotless but she sees it as drudgery and definitely doesn't get the same thrill 😂
Off on a tangent again 😳

How is Havoc @Mumtobabyhavoc?

A slower start here today and have done some journalling. Definitely soothes me and brings me focus. Up to date with basic housework. Meeting friends for a walk later. Also coffee and cake after-goes without saying I feel.

Projecting will be hidden mess today, I think. I have two junk drawers which contain important things but they are disorganised and if I needed a tape measure or a screwdriver, I'd have to rummage. I aspire to be one of those people who, like my parents, know where everything is at all times. My mother and late father's garden shed, eg, is a glorious sight to behold. A place for everything, and everything in it's place.

Right, I'm on it! One drawer before I go!

Have a great and productive day everyone 💐

Ps have i made any soup? No I have not. Still on the list. Crap tinned soup from Tesco for my beloved till then 😎

Peridot1 · 22/10/2024 09:08

Morning all!

Just checking in quickly. Didn’t get all my list done yesterday (pretty normal!) so a couple of things to try to achieve this morning before I head up to London to meet a friend for a long lunch. Haven’t seen her for over a year so lots to catch up on.

I did clean the kitchen yesterday and we went out for dinner last night and DS ordered pizza so it stayed clean. So that’s my top tip. Eat out or order in and the kitchen stays clean! 😂

Apple turnovers sound yum @Aria999.

@WinterFrog - I have a few of those drawers too! And our shed and garage is a state but I blame DH for those. I need to get the drawers sorted too. One day!

SpiritOfEdna · 22/10/2024 10:23

@WinterFrog - my new 0% balance transfer is with Santander, have had them with Nat West and Capitol one. I find them through my Experian logon. Thankfully this will be my last one, no more house improvements on credit cards!
Today:

  • I am stalking my payslip today 😄Payday on Friday
  • need to find some accommodation in Cornwall for mid November - shorter trip this time
  • more interminable sanding to be done - this afternoon probably
  • no response from the lovely flooring people, so might have to pick up the phone and call them
  • another little run to do - now I have my watch back on i am miraculously getting my 10K steps in 😄
That's all for now, although with the mention of stuff in drawers, I might go and grab one and do it while am sitting here, although I have a work course to finish as well today, have a good one, SoE
WinterFrog · 23/10/2024 13:17

Darn it @SpiritOfEdna I'm with Santander already and can't find another. I will look at experian again, and MSE. Congratulations on the 10k!
I find I sleep so much better if I get a lot of steps in. Better still if the steps happen on the beach or in the woods.

@Peridot1 great kitchen tip! I like your style!

I peaked earlier in the week, so I'm thinking one shelf ( it's greasy 🤮) today, and get dinner on the go. My turn to visit our mum today. She's picking up nicely but it's yet to be decided whether she's headed for home or residential care.

👋 everybody and thinking of our @petalpower 💕

SpiritOfEdna · 23/10/2024 15:34

Afternoon

  • new hob didn't last long - it kept turning itself off, so JL have refunded and arranged for it's return to supplier.
  • now that christmas has been mentioned...... need to start thinking about the christmas day panto 😄I thought it may get dumped this year as, well, GNeice is about to turn 14 and thought it would no longer be cool to do, but apparently not. I say panto, its a string of sketches joined up with a dance routine and a re-worded christmas song 😄
  • accommodation booked for Cornwall and plans afoot for hiring a car
  • need to sew some buttons on my coat they are dangling by a thread -DONE
  • put together a stack of puzzles to take with us for sibling
  • finally got the birthday list for GNephew so can sort that out to take with us
That is all for today, another little run planned for later, SoE
SingleThreadJoiner · 23/10/2024 16:53

Hello all
enjoying following along everyone's days. Sending good wishes to those looking after loved ones.

I have achieved very little this week except work and taking a bag to the charity shop, on the flipside my parents have been here and tidied up a storm, rearranged drawers, put a few portions of sauce in the freezer, oh and every so casually managed to find a flat they'd like to buy as a base to be near us (they live in my home country).....and it looks like they've been successful in their bid, so now we (for which read I) have a LOT of serious admin to do!!

Just as well I'd booked annual leave for half term (going to visit the in-laws) so I have some daytime hours to devote to this...

I KNOW I am very lucky and privileged that this is happening, and it will be a huge help with childcare, but it really is quite sudden and I don't feel prepared AT ALL.

FourSeasonsLobelia · 24/10/2024 07:21

Morning all. Best wishes to everyone and loved ones. ❤

Not much going on here. Our wonderful cleaner is here right now. I tried to cancel her (still pay her though obviously) because we were in chaos. She said she would come anyway and unchaos it for me. I love her so much. I have tomorrow off though so hope to Daily Project my heart out. 😍

Best wishes to everyone.

FourSeasonsLobelia · 24/10/2024 07:23

that sounds great about your parents @SingleThreadJoiner ! I live a very long way from mine and would love them to be closer. It will be lovely for you and them. 🥰

WinterFrog · 24/10/2024 13:45

Hello! I've come here for some sanity after having a little peruse of facebook. I very rarely go on there but today I have deleted my account. Only went on to look at a work page ( for freelancers) Anyway it's gone now and I'll just have to go retro with normal word of mouth.
But first I need to do something useful in the garden to soothe my troubled soul. I also have a wash on of mum's laundry, and that also feels soothing for some reason. Didn't sleep well last night so just a bit out of sorts.

Lovely news for you @SingleThreadJoiner though I'm sorry it involves extra admin. Worth it, I hope! Is the flat just a base for longer stays or are they moving here?

Your cleaner does sound lovely @FourSeasonsLobelia

That saying if you want something done, ask a busy person ( my dad's favourite) seems to apply to you @SpiritOfEdna You busy bee, you!

Thinking of which, i fished two almost dead bumble bees out of a bucket this morning 😔

@Mumtobabyhavoc you are very quiet I hope everything is ok 💕

Right my lunch is over, must do something useful!
