Just wanted to drop by and say hello. Everyone is seems to have their hands full - sending hugs and crossed fingers all around. Currently on the train home after a work day in London. H was away until yesterday caring for parents so in essentials mode - hoping to reset from the weekend.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 12/10/2024 06:11

Petal, I think I remember you mentioning that before. Sending best wishes to you and dd and ddad. 🩷
Single, also sending good wishes your way re in-laws. 🩷

Just browsed another thread asking, What makes you feel like a grown-up? Feeling adult-ish right now: nursed baby to sleep and got Havoc to sleep by 9:30pm; then washed kitchen floor old-fashioned way on hands and knees looking for stubborn stains (only took 15-odd mins) and scrubbed away; and wiped down kitchen garbage can. Am now scrolling, eating some lovely French caramel sauce off a tablespoon and opened a piccolo of sparkling rose'. I rarely drink, so it's a treat. Goes surprisingly well with caramel. 😁

Morning all! I'm having a lovely slow start, tucked up in bed still with a cat 💕
Best wishes for all of us and our families, who aren't well or looking after loved ones 💐
I got wordle in three today. My challenge is to remember the order of words I used an hour or so later.... I do that every day and panic if I can't recall them! Usually do though, as long as I've paid attention to them.

@SingleThreadJoiner I hope you get a peaceful weekend.

You sound extremely adult @Mumtobabyhavoc I did adulting quite a lot in the week, which is why I am having a slow start to my day 😊

FourSeasonsLobelia · 12/10/2024 08:51

Morning all. Bestwishes to everyone. A slow cat filled start to the day is perfect! wordle in 5 for me.

Ironing, cleaning and batch cooking for me today!

Hugs to all.

Peridot1 · 12/10/2024 08:55

In and out of the hospital in 18 minutes is definitely a big win in my eyes @petalpower. Hope both DD and DDad are ok. My Dad had sepsis quite badly at one stage but recovered very well. Your Friday evening plans sound perfect.

@Mumtobabyhavoc - that does sound grown up. I’m not sure much makes me feel grown up really. And I should as I’m 60!

@WinterFrog I got Wordle in three too! Always like a three!

An early start here for me today as our new TV was being delivered anytime from 7am. So alarm set for 6.45 and I was up and just putting some clothes on when they rang to say they would be here in around 20 mins. Had my first cuppa and did Wordle and they arrived. Good timing. Didn’t quite figure out why the guy carried the TV up the long drive instead of driving up though.

Plans for today are to deal with some returns of things I ordered recently. Two via post office in one direction and two back to Next in a different direction. Also need to pick up a brochure for an electric stove in yet another direction! They might not all get done today.

I also want to try our steam cleaner on our sofas that will go back into the living room. If it doesn’t clean them well I’ll book to have them done professionally in a couple of weeks.

I also need to order some wall lights for that room. Looked at so many yesterday I couldn’t make up my mind.

Mumtobabyhavoc · 13/10/2024 01:50

Peridot, I add vinegar to the water in my steamer when cleaning furniture without issue.

I'm calling today a success! I filed and threw away the rest of my snail mail and am officially up to date! I then went out to my garden and purged dead/dying plants; dug up and moved others; and generally readied it fir fall/winter. Vacuumed this morning and will do laundry tonight; beds and grocery shopping tomorrow.
Thanksgiving g is on Monday... or, did I already mention in a pp?

Mumtobabyhavoc · 13/10/2024 05:48

I've just finished prepping a wall for painting!!!
I've filled the gaps between baseboard and wall, filled holes and taped the borders. Will sand tomorrow and hopefully paint it. It's white on white, so one good coat should do it. 🤞

WinterFrog · 13/10/2024 08:11

Impressive stuff @Mumtobabyhavoc Where do you get all that energy from?!

Sounds like home is getting quite the makeover, @Peridot1 Exciting times 😊

I have finally ordered the photo album from digital pictures that I was threatening to create on approximately thread one. It took all of ten minutes ones I'd made a separate album of the chosen pictures on my phone. Slightly more expensive than I hoped, but now they (photobox) keep sending me links with offers and codes and suchlike.

I have also arranged not one, but three Christmas things for December. All small things, not being a party animal, but festive nevertheless. I'm a grinch, normally, so feeling quite pleased with myself.

We have three birthdays coming up between now and Christmas, so I feel a bit of shopping coming on. Thankfully am no longer responsible for the parties.

I have an urge to declutter a bit today. Stuff just seems to breed though, doesn't it?

I've been reading one of my favourite blogs:

petalpower · 13/10/2024 09:55

I’m keeping everything crossed for my dad @Peridot1 . He had another bout of sepsis earlier in the year but this time his dementia is more progressed and he is much more frail. I’m 3 hours away from him (but my brother is local) so I’m waiting to see how he responds to the treatment before deciding what to do.
It tires me out just reading how much you accomplish @Mumtobabyhavoc and with two little ones as well!
I use Photobox as well @WinterFrog . They are always sending discount codes so it usually works out ok price wise.
Today I need to get through the ironing pile which I may combine with watching Strictly on catch up as I was out at a concert last night and missed it. DH and DS have taken the dogs out for a walk so I’m having a lazy start to the day.
Have a lovely day everyone.

Aria999 · 13/10/2024 13:33

Hi everyone!

Haven't achieved much in the way of projects recently as last week I realized my 20 hours of cpd had to be done by end of October, not December as I originally thought. Cue much time spent on training courses.

(Compulsory number of hours cpd, some of which must be evidenced, is an unwelcome development this year from my institute's previous extremely vague requirements).

I am starting to seek work again after about 6 weeks off so before long the house will be a chaotic mess full of overflowing baskets of clean laundry, and vacuuming and dusting will be seriously overdue.

at least I now will have a cleaner coming monthly for the bathrooms (though according to parts of the Mumsnet hive mind this should not in any way reduce the amount of cleaning I do myself, there is an absolutely batshit thread on this at the moment).

Best wishes to your dad and dd @petalpower . I hope the condition is something that can be managed once they know about it.

WinterFrog · 13/10/2024 14:41

👋 @petalpower I'm continuing to offer sympathy and solidarity 💐
Curses to unexpected cpd @Aria999! Compulsory online training is a thing I don't miss!

I went and found that batshit thread. I truly am a slattern, I've decided. Grateful for my small house, and easy going family and friends, as I wouldn't want a cleaner in a million years. I've worked in people's homes for much of my life, and they vary so much in how they are maintained. The ones I really struggled with were the ones who wanted a clean house but had a load of clutter to try to work round. But nothing ever shocked me.

I find the obsessive cleaning/laundry/washing threads quite entertaining usually. The attack on the OP on that particular thread is upsetting though.

Currently sitting on an unmade bed, looking at an overflowing basket full of clean clothes that will not be ironed and are yet to be put away. And thinking that I should probably sweep and mop my kitchen floor, and wash up from lunch. Based on my experiences of other people's homes, all that's pretty standard.

I have a book to finish first....

Mumtobabyhavoc · 13/10/2024 15:53

Petal, that's very worrying. I can imagine the distance doesn't help. It all makes us feel like we should be able do something when we can't, though. Sending you love and strength. Time like these are so hard. 🩷

OP posts:
Mumtobabyhavoc · 13/10/2024 23:18

Wall painted!!! Used left over paint to touch up scuffs pretty much everywhere then repaired and painted over hole. What was a bit of a dent became a hole down to the stud once dc saw it and decided to pick at it. 🤬🤦‍♀️🤷‍♀️
Towels and sheets used as drop cloths and to clean up are in the wash. Two paint cans are ready to go to recycling. Paining supplies are re-packed better than before and are stacked in horror bedroom which looks a bit better now.
Everything took longer, so must rush to get to Costco, make dinner, prepare food for tomorrow, do a general tidy and clean bathroom and look after dc etc. You know how it is.

OP posts:
Mumtobabyhavoc · 14/10/2024 05:59

Have now sorted and boxed a bunch of kids clothes for donation. Horror bedroom looking even better!

WinterFrog · 14/10/2024 07:16

I'm going to have to go back to bed after reading that lot @Mumtobabyhavoc 💕

I've wiped all window sills and light switches and am feeling quite accomplished 😊

It's bucketing down with rain here today!

Mumtobabyhavoc · 14/10/2024 07:40

🐸 Good for you re wiping window sills and light switches. I always think of those as the little extras that make a difference snd feel quite proud when I've cleaned them, too.

Have had a nice bath and scrubbed top to tail, washed hair and shaved my legs etc which is quite a lot to get done and never have time to do everything, but dc are asleep, so, took advantage. iykyk. 😄
Folded and put away some dc clothes and will do the rest tomorrow.
I don't know what's gotten into me! 🤗🤷‍♀️

Hope DDad is doing ok @petalpower. It must be hard with the dementia too.

You have been busy @Mumtobabyhavoc. As usual!

I won’t tag everyone but have read all the posts. Hope everyone is doing ok.

I have a few things to order today for the living room. Mainly a curtain pole. And I need to organise to get the sofas cleaned. I also need to go and pick up a brochure in an electric fire we are looking at. And pick up the wall lights from Waitrose. And chase John Lewis about an e-gift card we were supposed to get with our tv purchase.

Other jobs:

  • change bed and deep clean bedroom
  • do medical insurance claims for my chiropractic treatments and dental stuff
  • chase builder about what is happening when this week
  • usual laundry etc
  • usual kitchen etc

Have a great day all.

SpiritOfEdna · 14/10/2024 10:34

morning #whirlwindhavoc 😄 Meetings are being dropped out of my calendar with boring regularity this morning. Might get some stuff done.

  • Ironing board is out, so some ironing to do
  • more sanding
  • need to clean boots (again)
  • everywhere needs hoovering/brushing as we went to the beach yesterday and brought it home with us
  • debobble a jumper
  • empty cupboard as new hob is arriving this week, so need access to power
  • air fryer adventures continue - need to make more granola. I think we need to tweak timings as everything is coming out a bit too overdone.
  • brush and then power wash the yard (again)
That's all for today, have a good one, SoE
Mumtobabyhavoc · 14/10/2024 19:01

SoE. New hob... is that cooktop only or big metal box that you can cook in and on?😂 Different terms used here. New appliance is exciting!
I'm on another thread and one of the posters re-did their kitchen last year with gorgeous new oven as well (box thing with cook top).

Breakfast is done, dishwasher running and time for a walk as Havoc is getting squirrelly. 😵‍💫

*also loving "debobble jumper" 😁
bobbles: pills/fuzz/fuzzies
jumper: sweater (catch-all phrase)

SingleThreadJoiner · 14/10/2024 19:45

Thanks for the kind wishes everyone, PILs were pleased to have their son over for a few days, and are looking forward/hoping to see us at half term (unless some medical treatment is scheduled for FIL just in those days/makes him immunosuppressed and taking a germy 5yo would be ill-advised....).

@petalpower thinking of you in particular. Many hugs.

Everyone has exciting things afoot for their houses! And their air-fryers!

I have two in-office days this week (= two lots of driving.....) and my parents coming at the end of the week for a long weekend, D is very excited. Somehow though have managed lots of useful things, including

  • booking flights 'home' for Christmas (home = place I left when I was 18....)
  • looking at some carpet samples online and deciding to visit that shop
  • tidying a LOT of junk off a side table on the landing that was haunting me
  • cooking a nice beef stew for dinner tonight
  • making a list with H of All The Things that need doing in the house....now we just need to find a reputable builder to do them

Keep warm and dry if you can, see you on the other side of the week I suspect...

petalpower · 14/10/2024 20:27

My dad seems to be heading in the right direction which is a relief. Still very confused (more than normal) but looking and sounding a bit stronger when my brother FaceTimed with him earlier from the hospital.
Today’s achievements:

  • trip to nearest town to drop back DD’s 24hr ECG machine at the hospital - combined the trip with picking up posters from the printers, taking small electrical recycling to point in John Lewis car park (and had to nip into JL for a quick browse) and dropping eBay parcel at the PO. We live quite rurally so I like to make the most of trips.
  • changed bedlinen
  • 2 baskets of ironing that I didn’t get round to yesterday
  • chased up heart meds with pharmacy
  • did an AskmyGP form which resulted in a being called to see the practice nurse and being referred for X-rays on my hip
Mumtobabyhavoc · 14/10/2024 21:39

Petal, so glad to hear your dad is a bit better. 😃

OP posts:
SpiritOfEdna · 15/10/2024 06:50

@Mumtobabyhavoc it’s just the cooker top.

I have the day off work to take my car for a service/MOT am hoping it’s straightforward and nothing new rears its head. 🤞

WinterFrog · 15/10/2024 08:29

Morning! Good news about Dad, @petalpower I hope he continues to improve!
Crossing fingers for your car @SpiritOfEdna
Mine recently passed then a week later a light came on, and it needed a new battery...

All go for you @SingleThreadJoiner !

👋 everyone else and loving the snapshots as always!

I have just lost my 166 day wordle streak 😔 DH got it in 3, the git.

My brilliance thus far today has been scrubbing round bathroom taps with DH's toothbrush 😎 (Nobody panic - i replaced it with a fresh one 😂)

I have also cleaned the carpet where I just knocked over a milky coffee. Hoping I got it all up or it'll stink! Am inspired to get the carpet shampoo out ( the one that quirts water then sucks it back up into a different chamber, not the foam spray stuff)

After reading the posts am also considering buying a steam cleaner.

I'm of now to play in the mud (pony volunteering) and then a trip to see my mother with some clean laundry.

Best wishes to all 💐

Peridot1 · 15/10/2024 10:13

That’s good to hear about your dad @petalpower. I hope he continues to improve.

Happy Thanksgiving for yesterday @Mumtobabyhavoc. Hope you had a lovely cosy day with lots of yummy food.

So I am in a foul mood. Although not as bad as yesterday afternoon. The builder messed up the painters and they are now not coming until next week. I was expecting them today. And he doesn’t want to change the carpet fitter from Monday so it was looking like nothing would be finished even next week and it’s supposed to be finished this week. So I sent him a message with a revised timings plan which he has ignored. So I’m hopping mad. He’s due today sometime with the stone for the hearth. I will be having strong words. And putting my foot down. Hard. I may even end up crying in frustration.

And DS is working from home three days a week. Today is day two and I’m already annoyed by it all. He wants complete silence. Which is not easy when we are having work done. Even the dog whining is too loud apparently. And she is old and confused and spends a lot of time whining about nothing.

And the dishwasher didn’t go on last night for some reason.

Ugh.

Hope everyone else’s day is better!
