I’m personally not okay with rioting but understand why it’s happening.
What is the best way to fix this issue and do you think it is mass immigration that has caused it?

Not sure that anarchist means what you think it means.

Okay, violent racist fuckers, then.

Tulipsareredvioletsarebue · 05/08/2024 22:06

I was at the time, yes. People expected to get money for nothing and we're turning dien jobs that they thought were too hard, but then complained migrants cane to steal the jobs (that they turned down).
oOfc those benefits dont exist but some lazy people expect payouts because they think if you get rid of all foreigners all of a sudden they will be showered with money.
iOf you think racism had nothing to do with skin colour then....

I did do an extensive list about why SH tenants cant do fruit picking jobs When i find it i will candp it here

I’ve lived in grinding poverty, but I still believe that refugee families, living five to a mouldy room with no cooking facilities, whose children have malnutrition from lack of fresh food, who aren’t allowed to work and escape their misery and have no idea how much longer they’ll have to wait to have their asylum claims assessed have EVERY right to moan.

They don’t want a ‘free’ room. They want to rebuild their lives.

What about the British citizens who live in mouldy rooms? Do you care about their standard of living?

You can shout this all day long, but it no longer works. No longer has an impact. Because once being called a racist would shut down peoples’ valid concerns about immigration, and mute people so they could no longer voice their worries. That has lead to the year on year deterioration of the UK. And now here we are.

oh well and they are still racist. You can have concerns about immigration without trying to burn people alive in hotels.

Deprivation breeds resentment. IMO, the rioters should be targeting the uber-rich tax avoiders, years of tory party corruption and the lack of investment in their local areas. But apparently it's poor migrants are the root of all evil 🙄

Exactly this.

mitogoshi · 05/08/2024 22:20

The riots are the result of bored people and warm weather, the excuse use wasn't the reason. There was problems where I live and it is not deprived, the rioters were from elsewhere and travelled in to cause problems, anarchists basically

Paul2023 · 05/08/2024 22:21

Can someone please tell me why those men at Manchester Airport haven’t been arrested yet? The ones who broke a female officers nose?

Ive never , ever heard of an assault on a police officer and that person not even be arrested for it.

TheFunSpongeBobSquarePants · 05/08/2024 22:23

Living in mouldy rooms. They’re lucky. The city I live in has an epidemic of young white males with MH issues living on the streets. Meanwhile, if you cross the channel, you get a nice hotel, phone and cash.

We had 3 hostels helping the homeless. 2 have closed.

Who is helping our homeless, our young on the streets who’ve suffered abuse, and who have MH issues? How much money did any of you donate to your local homeless charity to keep them warm in winter and get them a dry bed and meal at Christmas. Very few I imagine. You should be ashamed of yourselves.

No one, because they don’t give a shit.

You are right that they don't know how to. They also don't think that many of the things offered to them are for them so they don't engage and they resent those who do. I have a friend who ran the local family centre until she was made redundant this spring. The local library was long gone so she arranged for the mother's group to visit the library in the next door more affluent area. No one came to the sessions. When she asked why they said that it wasn't for them, that they didn't go to that area. They stay where their mothers and grandmother's are. They have multiple children by men who treat them like dirt.I taught for many years in the local primary school. The children came from families with generations of illiteracy and no work. Once you start missing school because your home is chaotic then you have gaps in your understanding. A day or 2 here and there isn't the end of the world but years of poor attendance creates gaps that can never realistically be filled. If you can't read to a level of 8 years and 9 months you can't function in the way that rest of society can. Your options are under- belly jobs that will get you prison sentence. Once you've got that you are unlikely to ever get a job of any kind. You want more for your life but you have absolutely no chance of accessing any of it. You can't access college courses, you can't apply for jobs because you can't read. If you were working in a heavy industry you wouldn't have the energy to set fire to libraries after a 12 hour shift. Those industries are long gone.

I totally agree with this. It’s a cycle of despair and no prospects.
People don’t see or understand what it’s like and no one seems to care.

I think these ‘incidents’ are three dimensional.

One- it’s racist thugs attacking mosques, shops, hotels.

Two- People who protested ( peacefully at first ) about being concerned about the amount of illegal immigrants. Before hijackers came and turned things violent.

Three- Bored thugs who just wanted to jump on the bandwagon and have fight with anyone, particularly the police.

NeverDropYourMooncup · 05/08/2024 20:09

They're the thick as shit racists we endured at shit schools, their kids/stepkids & their grandkids loving the opportunity to piss around, trash things and scare people who aren't as thick as them.

HTH.

This.

ttcat37 · 05/08/2024 22:27

They’re not working class though are they, or they’d be at work. Unless they booked off a last minute bit of annual leave to do some rioting.

Usou · 05/08/2024 22:28

Speaking for the people in my working class hometown, yes very much so.

They absorbed successive waves of immigrants over the years and rubbed along fairly well on the whole. However, the feeling that the piss is being taken has grown since Tony Blar. Old working class communities have been obliterated, and people are fucking angry.

You don’t have to pick sides. You can sympathise with them ALL. “I feel sorry for the white families but the rest can get to fuck” eh?

Do white families in emergency accommodation not moan about their conditions? Of course they do, understandably! But they’re allowed to in your book just because they were born here and their skin is white.

True, forgotten about and swept under the carpet.
Living in tents because the council won’t house you. Living off food banks because your mental health meant you couldn’t engage and you got your benefit sanctioned.
Drugs because it numbs the pain or alcohol which brings out the resentment.

Released on bail, pending further enquiries. They’ve not been charged.

Again, this isn’t about skin colour. There are many different skin colours living in poverty.
Please stop making this about skin colour, this is about British people of all races

Well the person this was in response to made it about white males. And last time I checked it's white men out there beating up anyone who isn't white regardless of where they were born

You said that it was a slap in the face when asylum seekers moaned about their living conditions. Everyone in emergency accommodation moans about their living conditions because they’re fucking horrendous. So tell me why the asylum seekers SHOULDN’T complain?

Paul2023 · 05/08/2024 22:34

Some of the protesters against the illegal
immigrants are black and from other cultures too though.Loads of footage on Twitter. Not just totally white men.

I saw some protests in Birmingham today amongst the Asian community but it looked fairly peaceful. They had Palestine flags so I assume they were supporting Palestine.
I would like more support for British folk of any colour because we have our own people to represent and support.
Why can’t leaders ask Israel to relinquish occupation of Gaza and let them do their own thing?

We must be have seen different groups. There were clearly weapons (machetes) and they were attacking cars and slashing tyres.

1dayatatime · 05/08/2024 22:36

@TinklySnail

"Were you in the workforce in 2008? Did you have a family member that saw their earning potential drop due to freedom of movement?

Well in real terms yes earnings have dropped since 2008:

www.bbc.co.uk/news/business-64970708.amp

Whether this is due to increased migration or not is impossible prove, but certainly large numbers believe it is.

I think you’ve hit the nail on the head. It’s decades of resentment. It’s why Brexit happened.
