I would love a Lib Dem opposition. Love, love, love!

So would I, not expecting it though.

SerendipityJane · 02/07/2024 09:17

We can start playing a game guessing at what venues will now be able to host a parliamentary conservative bash.

Currently you'd need a 365 seat venue. Plenty around obviously, but it does rather restrict the more artisan places.

However with a need for say 70 places ... I think most decent city centre curry houses will easily cater for that.

On a separate subject, what will the head of the Royal Mail get in Sunaks leaving honours for brazen attempts to lose anti Tory votes ? Whatever it is, it will be more than the fuck all the disenfranchised will get,

countrygirl99 · 02/07/2024 09:20

I'm ready for Thursday night. Snacks and strong coffee have been purchased. No alcohol as I have to drive at 6am to go and do my horse.

VoteOutToHelpOut · 02/07/2024 09:29

I bet Sunak is having a little tantrum reading this news🤭

pointythings · 02/07/2024 09:36

We have our snacks in too. Not working or driving, so a reasonable amount of alcohol will be consumed too.

VoteOutToHelpOut · 02/07/2024 09:29

If he wants to take credit for it, then the first question is why did he raise it to start with ?

SerendipityJane · 02/07/2024 09:44

Snacks being delivered today in a masssshoooove online shop.

We're planning on a nap 8-10ish and being up for the exit poll and then until some of the juicier seats are declared.

Currently in-between jobs, so Friday is a quiet one. Hopefully once we've got some stability back at the top, business can commit to strategy better.

VoteOutToHelpOut · 02/07/2024 09:45

This is hilarious. The Tories are so stupid and think the electorate is too.

Yes time to stop talking and dreaming about what a protest vote or a tactical vote will do. Vote for who you think can do the best for us consistently over the full length of the Parliament.

I toyed with voting Plaid as Labour are too centrist right now.

But you are right and I will be voting Labour as it is indeed the party who will do the best for us consistently over the full length of the Parliament. There won't be three PMs in five years.

VoteOutToHelpOut · 02/07/2024 10:20

Georgie David, a Reform candidate, has jumped ship.

Sky have got a pool of floating voters who they canvass that still seem undecided about. But one woman did mention she was worried about a super majority👻 . So the messaging is cutting through.

Georgie David, a Reform candidate, has jumped ship.

The idea that they relieved Farage and co. of a few thousand before jumping ship is appealing.

Imagine Farage being conned.

Funny how you can be worried about a non thing ?

Planning snacks and an inordinate amount of alcohol, I haven't stayed up for an election since 1997 when I was a student so no gainful employment to get to the next day! DD has training Thursday evening so will be home and showered just in time for the exit poll, I don't work Fridays and would normally have to go to school but as luck would have it A levels finished a couple of weeks ago so nothing at all to do thankfully..........apart from stress about the result and then again in August!
Have delurked a couple of times on these threads, lurked on the Westminstenders for a good while as well and have to add my thanks to all of the wonderfully well-informed people who have advanced my knowledge over the years Flowers. Would love an LD opposition but no idea how accurate some of the polls are!

SerendipityJane · 02/07/2024 10:34

Also, if you are going to have a majority, then who wouldn't want a supermajority ?

Anotehr Reform candidate gone - defected to Tories. A young woman standing in West Ham.

Piggywaspushed · 02/07/2024 10:38

^David said: “I am hereby announcing my decision to leave the Reform Party and stand down as their candidate for West Ham and Beckton, with immediate effect.
“I am in no doubt that the party and its senior leadership are not racist. However, as the vast majority of candidates are indeed racist, misogynistic, and bigoted, I do not wish to be directly associated with people who hold such views that are so vastly opposing to my own and what I stand for.
“I also have been significantly frustrated and dismayed by the failure of the Reform Party’s leadership to tackle this issue in any meaningful way, and their attempts to instead try to brush it under the carpet or cry foul play.
“As such, I have now suspended my campaign with Reform, and I am endorsing the Conservative Party – I would encourage all of my fellow patriots to do the same.”^

RafaistheKingofClay · 02/07/2024 10:57

So they are not racist they’ve just failed to tackle the fact that most of their candidates are racist. Ok.

Also, isn’t 52% a super majority so what Starmer is going to have in terms of % of MPs that are Labour might need a new word.

TimeForRishiByeByes · 02/07/2024 11:01

Another day another trip to the recycling bin.
The greens, trade unionist and social coalition, labour and reform.

BestIsWest · 02/07/2024 11:06

Tory leaflet delivered by post here addressed to both of us. Dog tried his best to stop the postman delivering.
DH has perused and declared it full of lies and binned it.
Still nothing from anyone else other than Labour.

SerendipityJane · 02/07/2024 11:13

Also, isn’t 52% a super majority

With my mania for definitions we have : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Supermajority

which seems to be predicated on a predefined excess beyond 50%

Since UK parliamentary elections have no such requirement, I think we can safely consign anyone using the word in the UK as mendacious, ignorant or dim or all three.

The best riposte to anyone using such a silly word in the UK is probably "what, like what we should have had for the EU referendum ?" and left there.
