I do like Tim Harford. More or Less is one of my favourite shows

mibbelucieachwell · 01/07/2024 21:21

OMG. Annabel someone from the Telegraph commenting that the PM needs to try to warn the electorate that in the worst scenario for the the Lib Dems could be the official opposition, which would be horrific as this would be two "left wing" parties in government and opposition.!

Lalgarh · 01/07/2024 21:24

My Brit political history is wonky but were the liberals a breakaway from the former conservative Whigs in the 19th c?

Let it happen. The Tories need an absolute shake down to understand why they failed. Perhaps having to persuade people from third will encourage a bit of reflection. I would have sad humility but that would be absurd. The 2019 party was easily the most stupid Tory government I have ever seen. Usually they are clever. I wonder how long it will take them to realise that what is left is largely talentless

Lalgarh · 01/07/2024 21:25

BINGO! He's MENTIONED BREXIT!

cakeorwine · 01/07/2024 21:27

GDP per capita and productivity is interesting.

It's not something that's talked about much in the media.

Who did?

Tim Harford programme on why everyone is skint rn .

Combo of calamitous falls in GDP and productivity that just happened to nosedive after 2016

RishisLeavingDo · 01/07/2024 21:42

Thanks, for a moment I thought I was missing a debate or something.

I am not familiar with Tim Harford

He does More or Less on Radio 4.

Fascinating programme - especially on house building, house prices, productivity, infrastructure - and how much hasn't been done over the decades.

Lalgarh · 01/07/2024 21:49

I mean it's all well and good saying that housebuilding needs to ramp up and planning applications for infrastructure needs to streamline but whhhhhheeeeew has he ever come up against the wrath on NIMBY England

Nimby England doesn’t vote Labour so it doesn’t have to be kept happy.

Lalgarh · 01/07/2024 22:00

They'd switch to Lib Dem though. Who might form the opposition

Badenoch going down well at her hustings, she refused to take part if it was videoed

Interesting. Any more information? She is extremely overrated and Saffron Walden is a very safe seat. If KB cannot hold on there then her leadership dream is over imo

Notonthestairs · 01/07/2024 22:15

It's probably already been posted but here is a list of results timings for Thursday-Friday.

"He looked at me and said, 'You're a liberal lefty b and I hope the migrants rape you'. To me that is Reform."

Ex-Labour adviser Scarlett MccGwire reveals to the #CrossQuestion panel her experience with a Reform activist.

The comments underneath (from Reform) are misogynistic & frankly horrific. Not the party for women regardless of what any twits on here might claim.

bombastix · 01/07/2024 22:24

Reform are mostly men; not so many women.

Horrible comment. But really unsurprised

VoteOutToHelpOut · 01/07/2024 22:26

@CassieSaysGoodbyeTories I watched the reform bloke at the Bristol Central hustings. I think that should be linked to on every Reform thread.

KJK looked very pissed off.

That’s the way to win the electorate over when votes are hard to come by. 😂

Notonthestairs · 01/07/2024 22:38

For anyone with Twitter this 🧵 is worth a read -

Keir Starmer is likely to be Prime Minister by the end of the week. I’ve been really disappointed in this election campaign.
But.
An experience of meeting Keir always comes to mind when I sigh at our politics.

A poll on Sunday had the Labour candidate 1% behind Badenoch. I daren’t dream yet.

Evenstar · 01/07/2024 22:43

@bombastix sorry I can’t see anything else, I bet there might be someone who recorded it though!
