I see this evening’s line of attack on Starmer by the Conservative Party is that he spends time with his kids. What a bastard.

With regards Warwick uni - from those who've we known applying past few years that are ds age it's harder to get in than Oxbridge in many ways.

Certainly since the way the unis have weighted places it's become a favourite with indie educated pupils.

Warwick make offers for most subjects to every student whose predicted grades match or exceed their publish entry requirements.

See rishiispushed I believe a gender role is assigned based on biological sex. This is based on historical fact when biological sex assumed the "gender role". I don't believe a trans woman would be expected to follow the same role as biological woman regards housework. Nor do I think they'd be paid based on their gender identity but rather their biological sex. Which is why I don't think it's based on gender roles as such.

And this is why the trans gender stuff has blurred the lines. Trans woman generally don't want to do a stereotypical gender role of a woman in all areas of life. They don't want to accept gender pay differences but what access to the sex based privileges of female spaces.

However I expect in reverse trans men would expect equal pay to biological males. But I also think they wouldn't want to be expected to take on the stereotypical gender role of woman - even if they chose to have a child as their biological sex allows.

So in conclusion 😂 - I don't think anyone really knows the answer. It's become too territorial rather than actually trying to find an answer that allows everyone just to live their life free from judgement and persecution.

If the sex difference didn't provide different pay scales then what someone chooses to wear wouldn't make such a different as one example.

I miss the days of studying sociology Grin

Thanks for that link @serendipityjane

Very interesting that he agrees with me (!) that if the tories had just been a bit more canny in 2022 lied through their teeth it could have been a hung parliament. Enough people would probably have fallen for it.

Ds disagrees strongly with me on this ^ so I've sent him the link! :)

newnamethanks · 01/07/2024 20:15

Someone please reassure me that I didn't just see Rod Liddle pontificating about an SDP list of wants without policies? I imagined that didn't I?

Rishiispushed · 01/07/2024 20:18

Re that attacks on Starmer for being with his family. They also appear to be (unwittingly?) anti- Semitic as he actaully spoke about Friday night dinner time with his family and respecting his wife's Jewish faith.

Oh dear. Which was the party of anti - Semitism again??

Recent research has shown that men now spend more time with their children - up to a whopping average of 37 minutes a day...

Why do the Tories have to revert to (gendered?) type so much! Slag off a man for being too feminine... sigh.

L1ttledrummergirl · 01/07/2024 20:19

I've got a close eye on the ASDA gender pay gap claim going through the courts at the moment. It's traditionally a female orientated workplace, yet the work they do is paid less than the work done in the warehouses by a traditionally male workforce.
It's interesting because men that work in the shops have been included in the claim.

Notonthestairs · 01/07/2024 20:21

Conservative voters prefer PMs that don't acknowledge all of their children.

But yes, it's amazing that the Conservatives sometime totally overlooked why Starmer wants to prioritise their Friday evenings.

I did think that.

Somebody needs to bring up ‘wine time Fridays.’

I wish my Labour candidate would come around again!

I wish my LibDem candidate would stop leafleting so much; pretty much every day wanging on about tactical voting like it's 2019 still. Had a fake personalised letter from his daughter today. Made me shout leave us a bleeding lone!

The pay gap in education is huuuuuuuge.

Yes.

newnamethanks · 01/07/2024 20:33

Awful ruling. God help the USA and God help us too if the orange menace becomes president. Unthinkably bad all round.

RafaistheKingofClay · 01/07/2024 20:35

So far today the Conservatives have tweeted:
10 tweets about Labour raising taxes
2 tweets about Starmer clocking off at 6 (the bat call must have gone out on this one because all the MPs are now tweeting about it 2)
1 tweet about voting for Labour meaning they’ll be in for a generation.

You can smell the desperation. Strangely nothing about what they are actually going to do if they get in.

BIossomtoes · 01/07/2024 20:38

Once they’ve said “Cut taxes” they’re done.

The Tories aren't going to get in, so there is little point them saying what they are going to do.

Zing! Yes I do hope so

Terrifying.

BIossomtoes · 01/07/2024 20:47

I think so too. There are Americans who are remarkably unfazed by it though.

Fair point.

Buden should just taj poke the opportunity to do all the illegal stuff he can. Perhaps put Sotomeyer’s hypothetical situation to the test.

CassieSaysGoodbyeTories · 01/07/2024 20:55

I just watched the Bristol Central hustings. If anyone is tempted by reform I suggest they watch the candidates closing speech. Conspiracy theory-tastic!

Was a fun watch but Denyer got taken apart by Debonnaire IMO

CassieSaysGoodbyeTories · 01/07/2024 20:57

My favourite Jones name reappeared! Fingers very firmly crossed
