Looking at it from the other way around, if you aren't racist and a misogynist why would you be attracted to Reform? Especially now we've had Brexit which was a thing to hide your views behind.

Good question- I asked this of a poster on here who claimed to be a Reform voter who was not an old white dude. Apparently they didn’t want WW3 and didn’t like the two major parties.

NEW: Financial Times endorses Labour

'The Conservatives have run out of road. Labour must be given a chance to govern.'

The Economist, The FT & the Sunday Times.

Epic. A vote of confidence and all that work behind the scenes on private finance has paid off for Labour.

The news from France is grim.

France's far right has made big gains in the first round of the parliamentary election, exit polls suggest

Voter turnout in the French parliamentary election was the highest in 40 years

At 17:00 local time, turnout stood at 59.39% - 20 points higher than 2022

I think perhaps people don’t recognise it because it’s a kind of fascist dad’s army. A bunch of old/middled aged men who don’t fit the stereotype.

With the veneer of respectability acceptance & tolerance being peeled away bit by bit.

itsgettingweird · 30/06/2024 19:40

Will catch up in a bit.

Thanks for all those asking about ds. He got a silver in 400m free and a gold in 50m free.

Apparently they are off to Nando's for dinner 😂 then they fly home at 6am.
The early start shouldn't be an issue as most swimmers are use to training at 5am 😂😂😫

itsgettingweird · 30/06/2024 19:41

“Whenever people keep being given a platform to say they have no platform, or whenever people speak endlessly about being silenced, you not only have a performative contradiction; you are witnessing a mechanism of power.”

Wow - powerful and true

Inspired by your grandad. I have just bought a book "we fight fascists". I suspect it will a sobering read.

That was for @KatPurrson

user8800 · 30/06/2024 19:51

I can't help but feel uneasy over the coming days...

The guy who has stepped down for reform lives near here. How could he have not have known what they stand for ffs????

dontcallmelen · 30/06/2024 19:52

dontcallmelen · 30/06/2024 19:56

I feel the same user8800 feel very unsettled at the though of Reform getting seats & also what remains of the Tory party, which way will they jump especially if some of the headbangers like Jenrick & company are re-elected.

BIossomtoes · 30/06/2024 20:00

Wonderful news @itsgettingweird.

Yeah.
Can't really verbalise it but...my spidey senses are tingling and I've learnt over the years not to ignore them :(

user8800 · 30/06/2024 20:02

Ds friend goes to Warwick and he's seeing him today so he might have some inside info later on the recent "shocking" events

Cheguevarahamster · 30/06/2024 20:16

Great news @itsgettingweird .You must be really proud. Well done DS. 👏👏👏

Edited

Let's hope that round 2 will be better. Too many times we have to hope for that but how long can that go on for?

L1ttledrummergirl · 30/06/2024 20:28

@itsgettingweird well done to your ds. I don't know if you are like me, but when dd is competing in her sport, I live and breathe every move.

newnamethanks · 30/06/2024 20:29

Congratulations to your son @itsgettingweird. Excellent.

I’m even later to this thread. Too tired to catch up so hopefully didn’t miss anything important.

Few political options, though, are ever ideal. Britain must choose between a polarising Conservative party that has limited its appeal to an ever-narrower segment of the population, and a Labour party that appears to want to govern for the whole country. The risks of sticking with the exhausted incumbents outweigh those of bringing in a new government. Much of the country hankers for a fresh start. Labour should be given the opportunity to provide it.

cakeorwine · 30/06/2024 21:04

I wonder how much more panicky and Project Fear will appear in the press headlines for the next few days.
