The first ever mega-poll by @ jamesjohnson252
and JL Partners gives Labour 450 seats and a majority of 250. The Tories are reduced to 105 seats.

I hope the election is an effective reset on some the extreme right stuff that is creeping into the UK mainstream

It won't be. Their MO is lots of permanoise.

Do you think had the Brexit vote been 52% remain they would have dissolved ?

This is why counterfactual history is generally pants. History is not single moments in time.

newnamethanks · 30/06/2024 12:23

O dear, Nigel's a trier isnt he? Why on earth would C4 go to the hassle and expense of hiring an actor to spout the Faragist filth? There are plenty of people in your 'party', Nige, who speak share those views and speak as he did, evidenced by the others in that clip, actual paid up 'members' of your nasty cult. Utter bilge.

I'm Scottish and pronounce "dour" as "doo-er" - and pronounce the "r" of course Wink

Never heard others pronounce it to rhyme with "sour" Confused

And Reform with only 2 seats. 2 too many but better than the poll the other day which showed them getting 70 odd. They won't have much influence with just 2 MPs unless Farage defects to the Tories. I reckon he'll be bored of being an MP in a year or so and step down causing a by-election. He's not one for actual work, preferring to agitate from the sidelines instead.

Champagnesocialismo · 30/06/2024 12:41

I agree with @SerendipityJane

But I have never ever believed in this multicultural Conservatism as a real thing. This split in the Tory vote would not have happened if it was as accepted by their voters if it was. I have met lots of nice “moderate” Tories in my time who are not racist. But I have also met supporters who were. They would just wait until they felt comfortable to say what they wanted. I don’t think a lot or what is emerging is new. It has always been there.

The difference now is years of tacit othering on immigration, migrants, leaving the ECHR, hatred of foreigners, foreign courts, a kind of licensed xenophobia.

No one is immune from that. We are right back to “but I don’t mean you, you’re alright”.

Cheguevarahamster · 30/06/2024 12:43

It's straight out of the Trump playbook. Fake news.

He also did this with the homophobic (and Hitler) comments from an activist as pub banter. (locker room talk). There are some (fools) who will fall for it but I have faith in UK. The majority are more intelligent and inclusive than Farage gives them credit for.

I think the one downside of a massive reduction in Tories is how much further right their remaining MPs will lurch - far enough to let Farage into their party? 😱

This is what worries me too.

@TheInvisibleMann I reckon he'll be bored of being an MP in a year or so and step down causing a by-election.

I disagree. He's a grifter so he'll stay as an MP, drawing the salary and doing sweet FA for it. Except maybe popping up regularly on QT despite his current complaints to sow division and hatred and get the attention (because he's also, like Trump, a narcissist Hmm). There might not be an appearance fee for MPs on QT, but the profile will help increase funds for his party limited company Hmm (again, like Trump Hmm).

At the next election, after being invisible in the constituency for years Hmm, he'll pop up again like a bad penny and claim that only he (who has done sweet FA) can sort out all the country's problems.

He couldn't even sort out a broken washer on a tap Hmm

user8800 · 30/06/2024 13:02

I think our mp has officially lost the plot!
His leaflets/fb posts are quite unhinged 😬
I cannot wait to see how few votes he gets 😁

Me too. As my waistline will attest 😬
I want some nice treats to enjoy whilst the tory party collapses 😁
Suggestions?
Maybe a sour grapes cocktail?

Me too. My 2 adult DC plus the eldest's boyfriend are coming back for the weekend so we can have an election night party. I've got Friday off so potentially can stay up all night. Think I'll cook up some pizza and get some crisps and dips for 3am fortifications.

TimeForRishiByeByes · 30/06/2024 13:23

nidges speech in Birmingham

if you really like upsetting people who like publicity, be sure to evade their ego filters online by not using their name.

I hear a Clacton man is due to speak in Birmingham later. (Apparently it is possible to avoid the roads and use the canals to sneak in ...)

How that man from Florida doing ?
