I’ve recently got into Lego, what are your favourite Lego sets?

my personal favourite is the Bonsai tree. I just love the frogs!

I’ve just got back into Lego and like the big sets so I can make the build last a good few weeks. I’ve just got the Disney castle and Rivendell sets so far and trying to resist looking up all the suggestions on this thread!

Are they available for a limited time? Or are they pretty much available for a few years?

Lego sets retire after a while, making them quite rare. I’m not sure how long they’re sold before retiring them, though!

The big "18+" sets usually are around for 3-4 years before retiring.
Regular sets (City, Friends, Ninjago etc) are generally around for a year before being retired but they are usually still available in shops for longer. They tend to get "reduced to clear" at the end of their time but the big 18+ sets just stop getting made. There's special offers with the big sets from time to time (Costco often has some) but because they are popular Lego has no need to reduce them.
Except for some bad selling sets like the Man Utd football stadium which was just a bit too obscure 😂

@thebigwave Lego or cats..... both are perfect 😍

PuttingDownRoots · 02/07/2024 12:43

Or indeed... lego cats.

I saw the Tuxedo cat in the lego shop... it would easily look like a real cat if displayed on a windowsill.

Donkeyokay · 02/07/2024 12:47

I want the rivendell one so badly.

Needmorelego · 02/07/2024 14:39

@PuttingDownRoots the tuxedo cat is awesome.
They've made the box open in such a way that the cat can sit in it.

I can highly recommend the Rivendell one, it is very interesting to build, it has new pieces especially for this set, the booklets have interesting facts through them and it looks very pretty, I just need somewhere to put it that’s not my dining room table, it’s quite large.

I want the cat so badly, but I’m going to wait to see if they release more colours/breeds ❤️

@NameChange101113 I like the cat but I know it would just become a dust trap and unlike a real cat it wouldn't clean itself.
Also doesn't purr.
😂

I think you are not allowed to post here unless you provide photos or links 🤪.

What happens when a set is ‘retired’ from production? That’s it? Or do some people sell second hand sets? If so, how do you know you’re getting all the pieces as some of them have thousands in?

Is there a website somewhere with every set ever made? I’ve found a few on random sites that aren’t made anymore but I’d like to see more if I can.

Needmorelego · 02/07/2024 22:05

@SexSectionNameChange
Brickset is an excellent website with all the sets listed. You can see all the sets and create a list for ones you own (or want).
Bricklink is a site for secondhand Lego. It's owned by Lego but each seller is an independent person (or "store") so you are buying directly from that person rather than Lego themselves.
There a frequently Lego shows around the country that have sellers there.

Baby due in December and DP is treating me to Rivendell as a push present Grin

I’m half way through Diagon alley, I’m really enjoying the build! Grimmauld place was an awesome build too, if you like Harry Potter. For nostalgia reasons I love my friends “central perk “ set but I wouldn’t say it was the most exciting build. My other half had the huge millennium falcon which is pretty spectacular and I’m not a Star Wars fan, I got him the US office set last Christmas and if you like the show it’s full of awesome references to the show and has so many cool mini figures. I’ve got about 40 sets in the cupboard still to build, I personally like the Disney and HP sets. I think I will build my big hogwarts next, and I’ve recently bought all of the mini Disney castles which look super cute in the box but haven’t built yet. For my birthday my other half got me the show white set and I loved building that although the roof was really difficult! I’ve got the hocus pocus set for Halloween as well which I can’t wait for!!
