I have Sky News on in the background today and the amount of grief being thrown Sunak's way for both D-Day and the £2K lie is absolutely off the charts, lovely stuff!

I've counted before nothing really happens to the spoiled papers. You just think 'ugh, a spoiled paper' and chuck it in the spoiled paper pile.

The candidates/agents can review them if they want to, and if any mark is just in one box next to a candidate they can argue that it's a vote for that person. So don't put your protest just in one box or it could end up as a vote.

To be honest though, it's a waste of time, nobody really pays much attention to them.

Would you put this on my thread? I feel like it would be really helpful to have comments in one place for all the spoiler rebel activists.

Looks like he's getting the full Angela Rayner treatment. What a shame.

Anyone seen that jet-powered bellend Tommy ten-names Robinsons current travails ? Silly bunt only went and got ChatGPT to create a D-Day image, which it did. Of soldiers running away.

Although I did like a comment asking why Farage, Fox and Robinson are celebrating D Day when their side lost.

YellowHairband · 07/06/2024 11:01

Looking forward to Penny Morduant (used to be in the military, represents Portsmouth constituency) defending this in the debate tonight.

IClaudine · 07/06/2024 11:02

I am travelling so not caught up, but OMG Sunak has really fucked up!

Bigcoatlady · 07/06/2024 11:05

It seems pretty epic. Way beyond bigoted woman territory. Because its mainly the rightwing press that are furious. I can't see a feasible spin strategy. Presumably their line can only be 'he's apologised move on'.

If I was a tory candidate I wouldn't want to canvas and be harangued about this all weekend.

I wasn’t referring to his DDay behaviour - I was referring to his general behaviour.

Rishi was Head Boy at WinColl.
Not a great advert for 'School Values' with his behaviour yesterday I feel.

medianewbie · 07/06/2024 11:13

Labtastic · 07/06/2024 08:54

At this point I can only assume he's doing it on purpose to make sure he doesn't get accidentally re-elected. I mean, it's just not possible to be this stupid, surely.

I've wondered that. Surely it would be more Dignified to 'Lead the Party to Victory' & the hand over to a new broom though?

medianewbie · 07/06/2024 11:16

Saucery · 07/06/2024 06:12

Not comfortable with neurodiverse traits being wheeled out to explain Sunak’s bad PR calls. An arrogance born of privilege explains it quite adequately imo.
I thought we were better than the ‘weird…….normal people would……’ stuff.

Well said @Saucery. All folk are different but my ASD YP gave 'the Address' at Remembrance Sunday more than once. My other ASD YP understands respect & responsibility too.

Do you know, I don’t think she will. She knows exactly which way the wind’s blowing and she knows she’s the Tory members’ sweetheart. I wouldn’t be at all surprised if she joins in the condemnation, it would probably get her a few votes.

YellowHairband · 07/06/2024 11:26

@BIossomtoes maybe she'll go for "I don't know why he left the D Day commemorations, all I know is that he was not under a desk"

Bigcoatlady · 07/06/2024 11:26

@medianewbie and @Saucery I don't think anyone on this thread is suggesting Sunak is ND. Possibly they are elsewhere. As you say it seems unlikely - I would expect an autistic person in particular to take quite a serious view of commemorating a serious event respectfully and not diverging from the formal rules around that.

I think a lot of us find him weird but explicitly not ND. Maybe just really out of touch due to privilege. Maybe something else like a personality disorder.

I've also seen the point made on Twitter that being statesman like at major events like this is meant to be one of the best bits of the job and its his last chance to do it. If he doesn't want to do this why did he even want to be PM? Even if he's a rabid narcissist that's puzzling. For all their faults Johnson, Truss and Cameron would have shown up for this - indeed Cameron did.

I think she might go for “It was absolutely the wrong thing to do. It betrays Conservative values”. What’s she got to lose?

Saucery · 07/06/2024 11:30

I am now getting tired of the swingeing assumptions about autistic people, so bowing out for a while to avoid derailing.

I've been on a TR thread on FWR recently. It's been quite illuminating.

Flowers I don't think anyone's meaning anything harmful but I also have a ND child so completely understand x

Also think this could be a possibility, she is a total chancer & opportunist.
Saucery you weren’t derailing 💐

Bigcoatlady · 07/06/2024 11:45

Apologies @Saucery

LittleBowSheep · 07/06/2024 12:10

So Sunak apologises and says it was a 'mistake'. Surely the word mistake suggests some sort of accidental thought process or unintentional outcome. His unwillingness to even attend in the first place definitely shows his actions were not accidental or unintentional in any way.

I'm pleased to see that so many people are disgusted by his behaviour and it's such a big topic in today's news. Let's hope it continues to be so.

It has been said that Sunak and the Tories were hoping for some big event that would shift voters minds. Could this be it?

Their line appears to be that he did us a favour by showing his face at all.

Bigcoatlady · 07/06/2024 12:17

Just saw that @MrTiddlesTheCat 'a bold decision' I think

SerendipityJane · 07/06/2024 12:19

DuncinToffee · 07/06/2024 08:49

He has Kuenssberg on Newscast defending him

"With prime ministers duty calls all the time and sometimes the duty isn't world leader stuff..."

"Prime ministers are trying to run the country as well as an election campaign, that's a challenge [Starmer] doesn't have"

So TL;DR is that Sunak is far more important and busy than other world leaders.

EmilyDickinson · 07/06/2024 12:20

The Conservatives are now saying

1 Don’t politicise the D Day commemorations

2 The focus should be on the veterans not politicians

I don’t think that’s going to work

Bigcoatlady · 07/06/2024 12:24

Agreed @EmilyDickinson not when the veterans are pissed off and the world leaders who did attend include another guy running for election, the guy whose country was on the other side in WW2 and the leader of a country currently at war with Russia. None of them had to slope for an interview with ITV...
