Deliberately setting out to mislead and cause outrage is a choice. A lame apology that means nothing after making this choice and shows a contemptuous attitude towards the electorate.

It seems to be a campaign style:
Lie
Insult the opposition.
Double down on the lie.
Apologise if found out.
Say a different lie
Rinse and repeat.

Did he? I didn't see it. I saw his disingenuos attempt to gaslight people into thinking it was just a genuine enquiry into how his jump went. But no actual apology.

He has apologised - and turned comments off.

People should think before they tweet

MrTiddlesTheCat · 09/06/2024 14:20

Seen his non-apology now. Because it isn't an apology. You can't say you apologise and then go on to explain how you'd never do the thing you're supposed to be apologising for.

I apologise, what I wrote was disrespectful to veterans and I shouldn't have done it = apology

I apologise, I would never be disrespectful to veterans = non-apology

The s*n is reporting that Sunak says it’s his “moral mission” to crack down on benefits as he unveils a new manifesto pledge to save up to £12 billion

Today's Sunday Mail in Scotland. Shock

The background is that Douglas Ross supposedly stood down from his marginal constituency of Moray (majority of 513) so that he could concentrate on Holyrood where he is a list MSP and is the leader of the largest opposition party to the SNP.

Wrote a farewell letter about Westminster and all!

He has now been parachuted into the relatively safer majority seat of Banff & Buchan (majority 4,118) where there is a sitting MP, one who has been ill but still wants to stand - over the heads of the local constituency association Hmm

The scandal is to do with him claiming flights to return to Scotland where DRoss is a paid football referee (his third simultaneous paying job).

This has apparently been leaked by local Conservatives who are unhappy at him being foisted on them nominated.

Couldn't happen to a nicer person Grin

Oh my.

That's a low blow.

Yes he was in France. Where our PM should have been Angry

So he's lost whatever he had left by way of Tory Centrist votes. Does he offer any plans whatsoever for addressing our horrendous child poverty rates?

Sunak is not interested in other peoples children.

mibbelucieachwell · 09/06/2024 15:46

Ooh I hadn't heard that @prettybird . Tbh I was already disgusted at him standing in North East Aberdeenshire under those circumstances and while he's already an MSP. He's so priggish and prissy when he speaks in public. Well well. I suppose his conservative cronies will be proud of his terrific greed and ruthlessness work ethic.

mibbelucieachwell · 09/06/2024 15:49

How much would Richie save by cracking down on tax evasion and dubious tax avoidance? If you're rolling in it it's fine to cheat play the system but if you're not it's absolutely outrageous. Lovely.

itsgettingweird · 09/06/2024 15:52

The question should be why they'll only start cracking down in tax avoidance if they are re-elected.

Surely it's a given it shouldn't be happening - worse still acknowledging they are allowing it to happen

Laidbackwoman · 09/06/2024 15:54

He's really shot himself in the foot. He doesn't need the money since he's minted, but every little mess up is turning into a massive snowball.

mibbelucieachwell · 09/06/2024 15:59

Absolutely @itsgettingweird and anything they claim is a good idea should invite the question, why haven't you done it in the last 14 years?

But Jeremy Corbyn.

Alexandra2001 · 09/06/2024 16:17

So much of community mh health, OT and Physio is now totally privatised, NHS staff go across to these private companies, taking all their NHS T&Cs with them, inc bandings.
But these companies have separate but duplicate, board of directors, HR, Training, IT, Payrole and buildings etc.

Within nhs and these outsourced companies, they will use another lot of fully privatised companies for equipment that patients need....

What a waste of money.

Second day of Sunak avoiding the press.

L1ttledrummergirl · 09/06/2024 16:31

I'm not sure if we are having an election campaign or not at the moment. Sunak should be out winning the population over, not hiding in the fridge/under his desk/ in his swimming pool. His supporters on here are also suspiciously quiet at the moment.

DuncinToffee · 09/06/2024 16:35

This parliament has seen some of the worst hospital performance in NHS history.

It's weird around here. Not a single leaflet through our door so far and no canvassers.

Everything wrong must be the fault of scroungers &/ or immigrants. Benefit Bashing week. Should play well sadly.

We've had a Lib Dem leaflet through the post and I have seen a vote Labour sign in someone's garden, that's it.

Saw lots of Vote Tim Farron in Cumbria yesterday. No leaflets here, but I did see 2 people delivering them on a nearby road earlier, think they were red.

Second day of Sunak avoiding the press.

I think I prefer it that way.

Can we somehow persuade Farage to do the same?

pointythings · 09/06/2024 17:46

We've had two leaflets for Matt Hancock's replacement (Nick Timothy) and my foster son who is still registered at this address got a personal letter containing a Tory leaflet too. I think they're scared here, Electoral Calculus is showing a 75% of us going Labour. Timothy is not a strong candidate.
