I caused a few scenes in supermarkets as a teen shopper proclaiming loudly ‘there are NO apples I can buy here’ because of SA stock. When DD was 11 we went on holiday to SA and talked a lot about the situation in the past and currently, and visited significant sites like Robben Island and District Six when we were in Cape Town. Consequently she has a pretty good understanding. Not sure how good she’d be on NI, but her general social/political knowledge isn’t bad.

I think you might now be the poster with the worst MP.

Yep.
You'd be hard pressed to find a worse one.

user8800 · 09/06/2024 11:16

The tory candidate has gone very quiet on fb since the d day debacle

Sadly, a local shopkeeper has supported him publicly on fb, so I won't be shopping there again 🤷

There is another independent candidate on the ballot, but I can find NO information on her at all 🤔

user8800 · 09/06/2024 11:20

Mel stride defending "deeply patriotic" sunak on news this morning.

Ha.

The Sunaks have probably already booked their flights to the US for 5th July!

I am still in disbelief that Sunak left early, what was he thinking.

Visit the shop once again and tell the shopkeeper why, don't just silently boycott his business.

Here’s what these Tory candidates have signed up to 😬surely he has to throw them out of the party

He won't.

I'm sure the man who used anti-semitic comments in his article on Friday, the traitor Boris Johnson, still has membership.

Well, mine insulted his own constituents (12,000 in the biggest British army Garrison alone plus RAF Leeming) by leaving early, so there's that!

That's actually made me cry. These people are truly horrible. I can't bear the thought that such abhorence walks amongst us, and people vote for them.

Good grief. It's petty and juvenile at best - and completely cloth eared at worst. They must be so disconnected to think this would go down well. They certainly aren't speaking to the very large 'conservative' and traditional population with this sort of attack. I am getting more and more baffled and disappointed by the political class. They have no gravity and honour - or seemingly intelligence - any more.

I was discussing this last week with my son - I am convinced all the decent people in politics are choosing other jobs now - in the diplomatic and civil service - I heard a women diplomat speaking a year or so ago and she was so measured and straight talking - no waffle, no sound bites, answered the questions. That's all I want really from politicians - it's not too much to ask is it?

The thing is, given the visciousness of social media and the press even towards the decent MPs, I can't blame people for wanting a job where they are below the radar - I couldn't do it.

Oh, I've already told him :)

user8800 · 09/06/2024 12:42

I've had to boycott several local businesses over the years...

I sense the local deli will be next :(

I was staggered to learn that most local business people didn't vote in the brexit referendum! They rely on exports fgs! 🤔😬

Since I don't believe they are too stupid to do some basic research on their fellow candidates, they deliberately misled people that Alaba was on holiday rather than participating in the D-day commemorations. It was a choice.

Which rather sums up the Conservative campaign to a T.

Thing is, even before I looked at the Labour candidate I assumed ‘in France’ right now meant a D Day event - and even if he had been there just as a private citizen it seems mad to criticise him, given the backlash Sunak (rightly) received.

Did he? I didn't see it. I saw his disingenuos attempt to gaslight people into thinking it was just a genuine enquiry into how his jump went. But no actual apology.
